Do you prefer mesh tape or regular tape for around a shower? I thought larger projects were meant for paper tape.
@@JoseRides both are fine. Mesh tape is faster and easier because you just slap it on.
Hey man! Love the content. I don’t have much as far as tools go so anything would be appreciated! In particular I think a heat gun would be really cool as I’ve started messing around with pvc pipe.

When applying the hot mud, what’s the maximum gap you get away between the drywall and the flange?
@@raulizquierdo7507 you could do anything under 2 inches.
Another DIY hack job!!
Why did you leave that big gap under it where the floor comes up short? There should be shims under the front part so it fits tight against the shims as well as the floor. It looks like that flange is not level with the gap under it.
@@edwardmissouri2216 the new flange was screwed down solid all the way around it should be fine
Learned alot of little pointers that will help tremendously!!
@@SteveSigurdsen Aeesome Steve! Glad it helps!
Thank you doing mine tomorrow looks pretty easy
Right on Gilbert. Good luck!
I had someone put in two shower kits. The mud job of the sheetrock around the tub is a mess. The sheetrock is over the flange of the shower surround and buldges. One piece is too big for the opening and is jammed into the space between the surround top and ceiling causing a gap behind the board. He used a pressed fiber tape( not mesh ) but it sets on top of thick mud...then taped over with mud smeared on top...edges of tape stick out and can be pulled off in some areas. The mud is splashed all over the tub and has dried. The mud was applied in thick , clumpy swaths with a lot of un-eveness and clumps ....wasn't feathered out. The sanding to smooth it for a second coat or painting will take for forever and be a mess. The person obviously doesn't know how to do this job. My question is ...should I remove everything and start over?
What a mess! Sounds like everything is all wrong including the shower install. The rough opening of the framing should be just right for the size of the tub and shower. If not you will need to shim out the framing so it's the right size. If not it will make everything complicated. If you think the shower install is good you could cut around the flange of the shower, clean out the chunks that are under the flange then make sure the sheetrock is screwed down and the flange is shimmed if needed and screwed down then finish according to my video.
When you say Hot Mud what do you mean? I have some 90 minute mud ...how do I know it's HOT?
@@peaceoutpeaceout4267 yes that’s hot mud. It was set up in 90 minutes. It’ll be hard and strong ready for a second coat Home Depot and Lowes. They carry 40 minute and 90 minute usually use 90.
do you prefer mesh over the corner beads?
@@MrLaker9900 mesh tape and corner beat is not related. They have totally different uses. You would never replace one for the other tapes for taping joints. Corner beat is to cover an outside corner.

I keep hearing something about with a new flange kit like this it reduces the opening. Isn't 4 inch the standard and then once this is installed you're down to 3 in therefore increasing the possibility of clogging ??
@@bartseller8601 yes that’s correct. Don’t overload it with toilet paper. Be a little careful.
I have a hot-mud question, if you've the time, thanks for greatly educational video. I read your mention of using 90m hot-mud from the local getting place; would "USG easy sand 90," or, "Proform quickset lite 90" be the hot-mud equivalent prefill for around a bathroom? Or, should I use "Durabond 90"? Thanks for your time.
Yes any hotmud is fine. The brand does't really matter because its just to prefill the gaps. If you're going to use it for a first coat on everything then the easy sand is great.
@diywithcontractorken.6124 Thanks!
Thank you for the video. I like the song alot. But the music was a huge annoying distraction. I had to rewind certain sections because of the music getting in the way of your explanation. Other than that, your video has been helpful.
@@maritzamancha8042 Yea seemed like a good idea at the time but the video really didn’t need background music or at least it should be turned down in the mix. My newer videos are better!
I just bought the same sprayer and started using it yesterday on some cabinets I built. But I wish I had stepped up a little more. This sprayer did great. And it made a nice finish. But I had to go get a Rac X guard and a fine finish tip. So my total cost with tax was close to $700. If you have an account at Sherwin Williams you can get the 390 for just a little more. And that machine is a Cadillac. It has a nicer gun and an easy access filter in the pump and a stronger motor to be able to spray everything. Many paints require a tip with an orifice greater than a .017 which is the max of the Prox17. Sonde places were close for the holidays I just went ahead with the Prox17. It is a nice machine with a good finish on my fine woodworking. But it's not a commercial machine like the 390.
@@darrellgibson you have some good points there Darrell. That 390 would be sweet to have for sure! Found this one on sale for $530 so I got it. Thought that was a great price for what you’re getting. I spray about 1 day a month so this should last a long time.
@diywithcontractorken.6124 yes it should last a long time. And with replaceable parts even longer. I guess a lot depends on what you spray too. I only shoot new cabinets I've made. And that only a few times a year. I found yesterday that the prox17 was a bit on consistant with the spray pattern when the pump would start and stop. If youre shooting walls or ceilings no one will ever know. If you're shooting glossy mateiral on super smooth wood it can show. You can always hit it with another light pass though. Since I only do sprayed paint on new cabinets I may sell my Prox17 and step up to a 390 or 395. Bit if I primarily shot walls and the occasional cabinet the Prox17 is really not an awful machine.
@ Yea I’m mostly a drywall and painting guy so usually just wall painting. I love that the prox17 is made to easily replace the pump so if it ever does crap out on me I can just replace the pump instead of buying a whole new sprayer .
Gracias!!!

Is there “hot mud” that you’d recommend?
@@junearras8643 90 minute hot mud from Home Depot or Lowe’s is what I use. It’s fine. I don’t like 40 minutes. It doesn’t give you enough time. Make sure you give yourself enough time to clean up your tools with the hose before it set up.

What type of mud did you use for that first coat of mud
@@jasnapon it was 90 minute hot mud but if you knew at this, you should just stick with topping mud use hot mud for your pre-fill only if you’re experienced then you can go ahead and do the hot mud but be careful. Make sure you go clean everything up with your set upand careful not to leave too much mud on the wall. You’ll see it bulging when the light shines on it.

You should do classes. I wanna know how to install a nextile bathtub and wall, without having gaps. It’s 60L x 30W & 60 H but the height & length is slightly off by some inches so I use extra wood ? For space fillers it’s slightly more room than I need.
So search that tub and you'll see it on the Home Depot site with a step by step video. I would need to see it in person. Everything needs to be right from the beginning. The floor must be perfectly level and square. The walls too. If not you'll have gaps. I see you write and record your own music.Very cool! So do I!
Best car seat cover video ever!
Be sure to stuff a rag into the pipe before using the drill bit as they have been known to fall out of the drill and down the pipe! And of course REMOVE the rag before setting the toilet! As others have commented, I would have used plastic shims to screw through to even it with the finished floor height.
Nice electrical 🤔
I 100% agree. I bought a Campbell soup paint sprayer and it lasted four houses and failed on the fifth after 27 years. No seriously I got my moneys worth out of that one. I think it was $250 back in 1997. Now you can’t get parts for it. I guess I’ll be buying this $600 Lowery’s model. Looks pretty good. Thank you.
@@USA-GreedyMenOfNoIntegrity yeah I think anything less than this is just basically gonna be a kids toy. I don’t trust it. It won’t last but I trust this one. The motor is much bigger. Its powerful heavy duty parts stainless steel parts should last much longer and I didn’t have to spend that much more.
@ good review thx

Sum1 already installed a small shower, ceiling is bubbling up. I wanna remove it n put up cement board. Stand up is 32x52 i think. 32 is correct. How do i install cement board only on the ceiling they are 3x5ish so perfect size. Just rip off old sheet rock ceiling and install the cement board n caulk n paint??? Ideas please. It's a 32x41 base. So your sayn I could leave old sheer rock up n just repair n skim coat bad area n seal good n then paint with the stain n mold water resistant paint? That would be OK to do? I just went in there to measure stand up shower n look at the ceiling again, it's not horrible after I cleaned everything. Looks like I paper from sheet rock split n rolled down a bit. I could cut that look paper off, leaving sheet rock n glaze it? Would that be OK. THEN paint away with good water resistant paint. Sorry to bug ya
@@chuckaaron2014 ok so yes you must remove the old Sheetrock. If you use cement board the you will need to tape and finish like regular Sheetrock. You will need to skim the entire sheet of cement board and sand and finish like regular Sheetrock because cement buses is tough and unfinished looking.
