That's really interesting mate, thank you. They must also pick on the noises of the lure on the bottom aswell? Which makes sense when you think about it. Were you using scents at all? Definitely watching this again I can see many opportunities of when I could have caught them, but didn't know the retrieve

Saltwater fly guys almost always fish things hard on the bottom for things like mud emperor. For those fish, their frame of reference is the bottom. You don't have to move things much. Just enough to get them to notice it and move on it. No scent necessary.

100% the noise and also it disturbing the bottom and kicking up some dust. Literally just a slow wind with it dragging along the bottom kicking up that dust is a goer. Also yes I run scent no matter the lure or targeted fish, surly it can’t hurt right haha. With Bream and whiting it 110% has a massive increase in bite rate so surly it would help with these picky fellas

It's certainly is mate, if it makes you feel better it's also very difficult and the times that you can do it are very limited, as someone who has fish their whole life I can confirm that you will catch significantly less amount of fish if you're trying to capture the strike compared to if you're not

Watched it hit the lure in a metre of water and it just sat there for two seconds while it shook its head… then it bolted. 20 min fight and got it in. Same day included a 57cm brassy on the same gear. That’s what I call fishing……. Love the vids. Keep it up. 👍
