ChatGPT to Write a Cover Letter in 1 Minute
This is how you can use ChatGPT to write you a 90% complete Cover Letter in less than 1 minute.
Cover Letters, some companies ask for them when applying for their jobs. A cover letter is a formal letter with the purpose of persuading the hiring manager or the recruiter that you are the best fit for the job.
Instead of having to write every cover letter from scratch, which tends to be extremely time consuming, I am going to show you how you can use AI (Artificial Intelligence) to write you a cover letter in no time. Of course you will need to spend a few minutes to customize the details to your own experiences and skills, but I promise this will save you much time.
In this video, I teach you how to ask the ChatGPT for a customized Cover Letter for the positions you are applying for.
The three positions I cover are… Business Analyst, Marketing Professional and for an Engineering New Grad.

    With the ATS tracker if you put in multiple job applications for different jobs at different companies on the same ATS tracker website like icims, can they see your resume for all those jobs? Or only the company can see job applications for the same company?

      @@spiritualinstincttarot Hi there, sorry looks like I missed this question. ATSs are attached to each company, so information on the ICIMS used by company A is not automatically shared with ICIMS used by company B. A company can only see the job applications within their own ATS.

    Thoughts on changing the tense of the verb from the job description? For example, job description says "consolidating" and change it to "consolidated" on your resume. Can ATS read the verb tense change?

    • @professorjoboffer
      @professorjoboffer 6 місяців тому

      Good question, some ATSs will be able to accommodate the tense change of verbs as well as the verbs used as nouns. For example, consolidate & consolidation. It is safe to keep the verbs present tense for the current role and past tenses for the previous experiences.

    Hi Professor! I stumbled upon your fantastic videos while searching for more information on ATS. I'm an older worker who has had three different careers so far: my solopreneurship, my dream job, and my steady "pay the bills" job that I needed while taking care of my parents before they passed. In my last two careers, I worked with a non-profit organization that helped me present my self-employed experience and transfer it to jobs working for companies. While I had some pretty good information, your videos have helped me take it to the next level. With specific information like fonts, margins, and headers - my targeted, customized, and retooled resumes are getting me interviews. Thank you so much! I'm binge-watching and subscribing! Could you please consider doing a series on older workers, career changers, and those who have little or no college experience? I didn't complete community college but instead went to a trade school. Then, after successfully building a business, I was invited to teach at the school I graduated from and became certified by my state as a private post-secondary instructor. I did it for 10 years until the school closed and I was nicely settled in my day job. Thanks again, Prof!

    You should, in fact, lie in the application and on your resume. Do whatever it takes to get the interview. Everything else can be explained and figured out later. Companies lie their employees and applicants all the time. We gain nothing from being too honest as applicants/employees.

      @professorjoboffer People should represent themselves in the best light possible, even if it isn't 100% true. Obviously, lying about experience and skills can only go so far. Lying should be used conservatively and within reason so that the applicant will be able to explain their true situation later on. I've seen people get jobs by telling a few White lies. Too many people lose job offers by being way too honest.

    Blacklisted?? Do you personally know of any instances where this has happened? This could be a huge legal issue - even for a "cheater". Also, is it really cheating when they've created this "secret" system that does not give everyone a fair chance? Nobody truly understands how a FICO score is calculated, but there is a general understanding of what helps and hurts, as well as a general feeling that everyone is treated equally.

    • @professorjoboffer
      @professorjoboffer 8 місяців тому

      Hi there, I thought I replied to this.. but maybe my reply didn't get uploaded - still trying to figure out this UA-cam. I'm sorry for the wait! I hope the following answers your inquiry. Yes - I am aware of instances where blacklisted has happened for a number of reasons (including some not listed in the video). Actually, blacklisting someone is not against the existing regulations and thus no legal consequences - furthermore, it is nearly impossible for an outsider to prove that they were blacklisted. It is the company's choice on who they want to interview and hire! If they find that someone is not a great fit - they can put those people on the side. Could you please explain how the ATS (in which you call a "secret system") does not give everyone a fair chance? FICO score you mentioned is a credit score system and not related to the Applicant Tracking System.

    Going to disagree with at least a portion of this. The ATS system is set up specifically to encourage keyword stuffing; therefore, I don't recognize it as a "cheat" to create a resume format that allows entering multiple instances of the same keyword. In your video you admit the ATS will demerit a resume for not having the correct keywords present in sufficient quantity. I don't see how it can be considered cheating to engage the system exactly as it was designed to work. Using the job description to create the structure of your resume and mirroring phrases therein is smart. It allows the applicant to address the specific points the employer is looking for in the exact format the company wants. In the example provided, I would say it should be more subtle, but, again, I don't consider this cheating. I do agree; however, that the hidden words just shows the laziness and/or a lack of creativity of the author. I consider it cheating but only by hiding the extraneous text without finding a natural spot for it within the document. Thank you for your thoughts on the topic!

    • @professorjoboffer
      @professorjoboffer Рік тому

      Hey there! Appreciate the comment & your insights - whether you agree with them or not. Always valuable to get some engagement and feedback on the contents. After re-watching the video a couple more times as well as examining your notes, there’s hints of misunderstandings in terms of how my message was interpreted :) In light of this, I’d like to clarify a couple of things. Before I start, I have applied a broader meaning of the word “Cheating” to include the meanings ‘bypass’, ‘unfaithful’ and such during the video. Key Word Stuffing - Yes it is fair to highlight one’s experiences & achievements mutlitple times using the same key words (communication, coordination, social media and etc), and will not necessarily be an issue at the ATS stage. However, instead of stuffing them multiple times into a single bullet point (as shown in the video), it is more advised to spread out those key words across multiple bullet points & experiences. In the video, I’ve demonstrated the instance of using the same Key Words 4-5 times in a single bullet point - imagine having a Resume with 20-25 bullet points and some of them containing the word “communication” or “social media” 4 times in each bullet. This means in that single page 500-word Resume one will have the words “communication” and “social media” 20 times each, in addition to other Key Words they might have stuffed. During the in-person screening the key word stuffing will be more easily noticable and such practice tends to be frowned upon by the HR, recruiter or the hiring manager. Meaning lower chances of being invited in for an interview. This method may allow one to bypass the ATS, but not much further. Additionally, in the video I do not imply nor state that the ATS will DE-MERIT Resumes lacking keywords, but demonstrate that Resumes with sufficient and appropriate keywords will be more competitive (higher score). There’s a clear distinction between gaining points and losing points (de-merit) :) Copy-Pasting Job Posting / Description - If you believe this is “smart” you are more than welcome to apply it during your job hunting journey, it seems like you have valid reasons for your conclusion :) I just wanted to share through the video that from the perspective of HR and Hiring Practices, it is deemed deceitful, lazy and dishonest, thus not encouraged. Also, I’m curious as to how you define the scope and integrity of ATSs as “a system… to encourage keyword stuffing”. I have yet to find any evidence or rationale to support this. Good luck and thanks for visiting!!

    What about indentations? Do ATS favor some indentation formatting above others? (i.e. preferred indentation distance, indenting by using the ruler vs indenting by using spaces). Or on the contrary, do ATS not care about what indentation formatting you apply to your résumé?

    • @professorjoboffer
      @professorjoboffer Рік тому

      The ATSs are designed to scan for and organize words & phrases, thus it would be fair to say that indentation on your Resume / CV would have minimal impact from ATS scanning. However, once your document passes the ATS and makes it on to the in-person screening, indentation may make it easier or more difficult for the reader (HR manager, recruiter, hiring mgr) to comprehend. Another important element to note is that if you set up your documents’ indentation using the ruler function and the receiver’s document setting happens to be different - the formatting may be off (which is why we prefer ‘pdf’ as it doesn’t impact the formatting most of the time). Hope this answers your question and thanks for watching my videos :)

    I'm surprised hobbies and interest are now acceptable on a resume. Conventional wisdom from most sources says not to use personal answers when answering the question, "Tell me about yourself" in an interview. Can you tell me how this is different, and adds value to a resume? Thanks!

    • @professorjoboffer
      @professorjoboffer Рік тому

      Hi, thanks for your comment! From my experiences with multiple Forbes Global companies the Hobbies & Interests section was never not acceptable on a Resume. You can write anything you want to on your Resume, some info adds more value than others, as with how you present the information. Here’s a video on the rationale behind how the Hobbies & Interests section adds value to your Resume: ua-cam.com/video/N72Xaj9eKUc/v-deo.html Secondly, I see that you’ve mentioned a Resume and a Job Interview, each serve a different purpose in the hiring process. It is recommended to not include irrelevant personal information in either (examples: what kind of animals you like, what your favorite color is and etc). In light of that, a Resume & Interview should be an objective evaluation of yourself, including your experiences, skills & knowledge. If relevant to the position you’re applying for, it may add value during your hiring process. (Such as liking Sudoku puzzles may relate to problem-solving skills). There’s a difference in saying “I like doing Sudoku” and “Regularly engaging-in and solving Sudoku puzzles has trained me to look at the big picture when solving problems.” I understand what you mean by what most of the “conventional wisdom” says… they’re not wrong either, it’s the degree to which you relate your personal information & the relevance your personal answer has on the position being considered for. I hope this answers your question :) Lastly, there are so many resources out there and it is your decision to follow some advices (or conventional wisdoms) over the others. I hope my explanation & rationale helps you to make a better decision - happy job hunting!

      Hello, thanks for your comment - nowhere in the video do I state that this is the way recruiters use an ATS; all I explain are “The secrets HR & Recruiters don’t tell you”. However, I’d love to be enlightened about your thoughts & experience on how recruiters use the ATS, would you mind sending me an email about it to “professorjoboffer@gmail.com”?

    Prof Job Offer, If you work as a Graduate Teaching Assistant while pursuing a Ph.D., where and how do you list the courses taught, etc.?

    • @professorjoboffer
      @professorjoboffer Рік тому

      Hello Pamela, thanks for your question! Great to hear that you’re pursuing a Ph.D :) For the courses you teach / have taught you may list them under the section “Teaching Experience” which can be one of the headings / Sections of your Resume/CV; just like “Education” and “Work Experience” Under “Teaching Experiences” you can include both your TA & course teaching experiences. Hope this answers your question!

    6:33 does it mean that if ONE of those questions are wrong then you get eliminated?

    • @professorjoboffer
      @professorjoboffer Рік тому

      Thanks for your question! The actual determination & complete elimination depends on how each system is set-up. In some ATSs your application will no longer be processed and in some it may get flagged and examined individually (to see if you have other essential qualifications). Your best bet is to assume that your application will no longer be processed if you don’t meet the requirements of the knock-out questions
