Doing the math from the head of the border patrol academy it takes about 10 weeks to complete training if you can't speak Spanish and have to train longer. Two months otherwise. In 1985 the academy was 19 weeks whether you spoke Spanish or not. That created the historical Border Patrol "esprit de corps" which is gone. Now its a government job with good benefits, a pension, and a 401K. Wondering about morale problems and suicides?

I rode these streetcars dozens of times when I was stationed at Ft. Bliss 1973-75. My last ride was only a few weeks before service was discontinued in late 1974. Of course back then I had no reason to remember what car numbers I rode but it's very possible this might have been one of them. I'm looking forward to returning to ELP to ride the refurbished PCC's this fall. I believe they're planning on revenue service before Christmas 2018.

I really want to be a border patrol agent so bad but the only problem is that I can’t speak Spanish! It’s way too hard and I’m Latino. I try to learn it from my family but it’s the most difficult thing for me to learn 😫

I was in one of these programs I wouldn't say the training was intense because it was made to train high school students for the real thing such as this I got away with being in middle school because I am 14 and that's the minimum age for applying I couldn't survive the first day which is known as hell day because not only was I physically unprepared but I was mentally unprepared as well
