This is certainly a strange phenomena. It happens though. Did you have the latest updates in place. I think it was version 3.06 that stops the power cut falls. The smart battery would not be recognized for a fraction of a second and cut power. They did away with that stupidity. I cant handle people saying vortex ring state. Its just not happening with these small platforms with out perfect conditions with downdrafts. This was a flight system failure.

Mark - I am with you on trying to understand why this unit just falls mid flight. In answer to your question the battery still had two bars at the time of the crash (only 8 min of flight on a fully charged battery). When I found the copter the rotors were still running. The copter was able to fly after I recovered it but I decided to change the battery just in case. On the second fully charge battery the copter flew for 11 minutes and then did the exact same thing, fell like a stone despite the application of full throttle. The rotors were still running but would not power up. After turning the copter off and restarting it, roters powered up. This is my third unit and after a couple fly aways with the second unit I make sure that all calibrations are correct before I try to fly. I know that some people who seem to have good units claim that some of us just aren't flying correctly. I can tell you that after all the grief I have gone through, I have checked all the calibrations and I know what I'm doing. These test flight were in an open meadow and I had synch with 8 satellites. So far I just have not received a unit that works reliably. The loss of power problem with this unit is different from the fly away problem with the second unit and the camera gimbal freakout with the first unit.I am currently trying to get a refund from DJI but they are resisting and insisting I send my unit in for yet another repair. Considering in the 5 months since I received the first unit that I have only had possession of the unit for about 6 weeks total (the rest of the time it was with DJI) I think it's time to cut my losses.

Interested in understanding why this happened. What was the battery status after the crash? Same battery as previous unit? It looks like all motors were still operating during the fall, because it didn't flip over. Looks like you were descending, could this be Vortex Ring State? Have you plugged the unit into your computer to calibrate or check failsafe settings? Same failure as previous units? Are you going to get another one?

That was pretty awesome the two of you! I do recommend that you work on your timing for your pirouettes and turns, but other than that, it was awesome! You girls did Gene Kelly justice!
