I read a historical fiction that made a connection that King Henry's beloved sister, Mary, had died a few years previous, and that he saw Anne of Cleves as a possible substitute for this position. Kind of a sweet compliment even though it came from a self centered tyrant.

I wish Mary and Philip of Bavaria became something of an item for real. She deserved happiness after being abandoned for so long, Henry VIII's most ignored casualty was both of his daughters. Mary died too young and too sad, and Elizabeth had to outlive the love of her life and died alone too. These two, i think, had sad lives. I pray for them always.

I guess part of this show’s success is the good looking actors. JRM & the rest of the main actors don’t resemble the real life characters. Good looks sells, it’s nice to see a good looking people.

They call Cathrine Parr the one that survived, but she died giving birth to a child of her second husband in 1548, only one year after Henry VIII died. Since Cathrine of Aragon died much earlier, Anne of Cleves ended up as the sole survivng ex-wife of Henry VIII. She outlived him by a decade.
