I was 7 when this came out & even then i was like why dont they beam over first. I just wish they put back in the sub-plot about them, the Klingon version of Rouge One, stealing the BOP from the Romulans. Maybe tie it in with the BOP & plot of ST6. Nanclus then starts planning to blow up Praxis
What's neat is the lighting of the sets in this movie. Blues, purples, reds... its lit much the same as the tv show. And it works perfectly. Even the Excellsior bridge is colorful to a degree. Bright green lighting on the floors.
It wouldn't be until the time of Worf, Gordon and the Durass sisters that Klingons of stature would follow Christopher Lloyd's Kruge. He did really well with this role, which is underrated. For this scene, unless Kruge's Bird of Prey was an experimental prototype, privateers should have known a Bird of Prey could cloak/decloak....
One explanation could have been that the smugglers had some deal with Kruge that while he would hand over the contraband first, he wouldn't let Kruge have Valkris back until pay-off. It isn't confirmed until ST:VI that a foreign transporter can be blocked, but I think it's always been implied.
@@DellaStreet123 If you can destroy the ship you can certainly disable it and then beam aboard your girlfriend. The implication seems to be that she wasn't permitted to view the data. She had to be sacrificed. She took it well.
@@seanwebb605 Yes, Valkris had to die because she watched the video...and told Kruge about it. In the novel -- I know, the novels aren't canon -- she went on this mission to restore the honor of her family. She watched the tape and told Kruge about it so she would be killed as part of the mission and, to put it with Kruge, be remembered with honor.
Take note everyone - the klingon bridge is the same set as from TMP - just the rear, circular section. It was reused as the torpedo bay in TWOK - Kruge's chair is where the torpedo was lowered and he has his back to the loading hatch.
I wonder how different the outcome would have been at the Genesis planet had Valkris not been killed here. Let's say Kruge beams her aboard and keeps her as an advisor during the mission. Thoughts? I'm thinking she was a smart lady and would not have been so easily duped by a Federation Admiral. :P
Kruge is the only character, who could make a L42 look menacing and lethal in a film, all the other l42 and D32's through out the TV serise no where near as lethal or sinister.
Spoiler alert: Kruge and Valkris ARE NOT lovers. At least, not according to the novelization, and that's more or less official. She was using him and this mission to restore her family honor, and he admired her combat legend.
Even if Valkris didn't see the Genesis information that she obtained for Kruge, would he still kill her anyway along with those aboard the merchant ship?
THIS IS AN AWESOME SCENE CHRISTOPHER LLOYD IS AWESOME AND TALENTED AND VERY LEGENDARY HIS PORTRAYAL OF COMMANDER KRUGE IS A VILLAIN BUT CHRISTOPHER LLOYD PORTRAYAL OF COMMANDER KRUGE AWESOME I'M A FAN OF STAR TREK 2 THE WRATH OF KHAN , AND STAR TREK 3 THE SEARCH FOR SPOCK, STAR TREK THE VOYAGE HOME, AND STAR TREK THE STAR TREK 6 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂😎😎😎🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂😎😎😎😎😎😎🙂🙂🙂

He couldnt have just beamed Valkriss over?...
1:41 sounds like another track by James Horner ua-cam.com/video/uk5G4Yhq3tU/v-deo.html

the Klingons' mom would not buy them the SNES, Genesis was all that Woolco had
Why not just beam her over to the bird of prey and into custody if she's become a liability?
Christopher Lloyd as a Klingon is one of Star Trek's best ever casting choices.
Having spent time in Mongolia it's easy to see Klingon culture and language is based on Mongolians.
turn up the phil collins
If you think about it the Russians and the in the Chinese have wore on their minds and have no regard for personal play some every individual
Why didn't he just beam her aboard....
are those supposed to be Ferengi 🤔

If i was the Klingon Capt., I would have said the transmission was garbled. I would want to motor boat later than evening.
If the Klingons “bought” Genesis, Kruge wouldn’t need the “secrets of the Genesis torpedo” from David Marcus.
Definitely not my favorite original cast movie, but one of my favorite scenes.
Those freightor simps were the same as the left wing tards who spied for Russia during the cold war! How ya feelin' now dummies!
one of the best star trek moments is when Kirk gives him the boot.
if Jim Ignatowski got control of spaceship, this is what it would look like

Never understood why she couldn't just beam herself and the info aboard.

Good to know that 1980s video game cartridges were still in use in the 23rd century to upload data
Given Valkris was part of a covert operation defintiely not sanctioned by the Klingon High Command (?) she probably won't be remembered with honour

That Klingon "dog" was a nice touch...
Its weird and strangely cool that this exact Bird of Prey would later travel through time to save Earth and eventually end up in a Starfleet Museum.
When this Bird of Prey hits 88mph. You're going to see some serious shit.
Always loved that utter ruthlessness. Tells you straight off that he's a villain not to be f*cked with.
What a waste of a fine Klingon woman. He couldn’t just beam her aboard before destroying the ship?

He could have simply beamed her aboard and not killed her.

"Unfortunate" "Understood" I love how much information were communicated through two words.
epic
NOW THATS TRUE LOVE
This scene! When the Bird Of Prey shows up. Damn!
Even if Valkris didn't see the Genesis information that she obtained for Kruge, would he still kill her anyway along with those aboard the merchant ship?
Of course. First rule of crime: No witnesses.
Kruge would have blown a fuse if someone had told him that his ship would eventually end up in the Starfleet Museum.
And here it is for the first time, the cloaking device that would save the galaxy not once, but twice.
in my opinion, the quintessential example of what it is to be Klingon.
They have an honour culture with a very strict chain of command, but the ship commanders were always going off rogue.
He couldn’t beam her over first? I mean that rack was too good to just discard like that.
Why didn't he trust her?

Kruge is awsome klingon
When that Bird of Prey hits Warp 8.8 you're gone see some pretty serious sh#t.
How did they get the information maybe some computer.
0:17 blaster beam

She was loyal, he could have beamed her over instead of killing her 🤷♂️
