@@kenfresno4583 there are some tricky State and Federal rules about where/when you can fly. I always worry about getting a citation. My drone mostly stays in the bag until the hunt is done.

@@wanderingwingshooter I am headed there this October, bringing our own boat to get to Garden and High. I believe Garden is our priority.

I was out where I shot this video recently (May '24). The buffalo grass is starting to re-cover the sand as the initial weeds have thinned out. You can see small, fresh sumac and plums starting where there used to be thickets. The ever present sage is thinner but still ubiquitous. I heard bobwhite quail calling.

I don’t chase the singles much anymore. I usually don’t shoot the singles my dogs point, at least not very often. A decent hunter with the right dog can really hurt a covey once they’re spread out. I guess I’m just not that mad at them anymore.

Thank you. My little pointers aren't the best trained dogs but they are honest and hard-working. The open country makes for some neat flush videos when the birds let you get close. They're usually a lot spookier than they were on this day.

I feel the same way about my trips to the North Woods. I've always flown up and hunted with friends and their dogs. I need to take the time and drive up with my dogs.

Thank you for the positive feedback. Not everybody gets to watch a bird dog work on wild gamebirds. I hope people are able to get a sense of the poetry which makes it so dear to me. While I love sharing what I do it can be a burden at times keeping the camera gear situated and doing the editing. Not to mention that not all the attention it draws is positive. Comments like yours make me glad I do it.

She’s a nice dog. I’ve given some thought to owning a Brittany. I think they’d fit my hunting well. I’d need a rangy one though.

I shot well all season until the last month or so. This was the day my struggles started. Hopefully they won't follow me into next year.

Thanks! She's a hard charging little dog that loves to find birds. I think these quail were under the tree in the shade until she pointed them then they had started to move away from her. My arrival finally made them nervous enough to flush. They got up 15-20 yards from me. It was super thick in there.

She’s a warrior. I’m worried about her tail but I’m told time will heal that problem. Those birds just did NOT want to fly!

@@kenfresno4583 no snakes this early. Just sunshine. Some of the areas I hunt have a lot of prickly pear and boots might benefit a dog that doesn't have hardened pads. Despite what some people will say there's no need to boot for the sand burrs. The only time my dogs get a boot is when they have an injured paw.

I don’t guide. I’m blessed to have a circle of friends who own bird dogs so I have a steady supply of hunting partners each season. If you hunt grouse you can figure out quail. I’ll gladly offer advice if you contact me privately.

The covey sizes have stayed strong despite all the winter moisture. I feel good about things going into the spring. The birds were really holding tight for the dogs this weekend and it made for some neat videos. I've got four more to edit and put up just from last Saturday. 😍

I had forgotten how much I enjoyed wild bird hunting I’ve trained my dog on pen raised release birds . I went west to a couple WMAs found us some wild birds So much more fun I plan on being back the last two weeks of February. Thanks for your Videos.

@@jameslollar9990 You might want to read the regs. The WMA’s (and maybe OLAP ) are closed to non-residents starting Feb 1. If you’re an Okie (or have access to private land) have a great hunt!

She had her head a lot higher than usual. If you look you can see her sucking the scent from the air. I think those birds were in the shade of that tree and had moved out a bit before I got to her.

I've come to realize, in the past year or so, that I only have so many of these left. Dot only has so many finds before she's gone. I've only got so many coveys before I'm dead or too old to follow a dog. Each covey still gets me excited but I'd like to think I savor them a bit more than I used to.

I have also come to that conclusion as I am 78 . Im still going to Montanna again this year!!!!!@@wanderingwingshooter

@@wanderingwingshooter i totally understand. It's great for deer hunting, terrible for wing shooting plus there aren't very many quail over here

I only hunt in groups less than 4 and only do that with hunters I trust. There's a lot of opportunities for something to go wrong.

I've been forgetting to load my gun a lot lately. It's become so frequent I don't even cuss when I go click anymore (mostly).

Man I love that sweet little dog. She's just a shadow of her former self physically but her heart is still huge.

She'll pick them up and show them to me..... occasionally she'll actually bring one to me.

She's been having a good year despite her limitations.

The cover is thick this year isn’t it . I was up last week found some big coveys .
