Harrild Railroads - Part 145 - Double Folding Bridge Ep. #2 - Building the Pylons
For binding the old part of the layout to the new "HighEnd" there'll have to be at high bridge in the corner of the garden. Due to access for people and machinery it have to be a folding bridge. Through the winter there have been a lot of thinking, and now it's time for some action! 🚂🙂 You can see the previous episode on this project here: ua-cam.com/video/j2m-OTObnQw/v-deo.html

This film is on experiments on using ultrasonic humidifiers to make steam on my steam locos (maybe diesels too). There are several advantages to using this technique: The devices are cheap to buy ($2-3 each), they run on tap water, only a small voltage (5 volts) is needed, moderate power consumption and thesmoke actually looks ok, compared to smoke oil aggregates. In the future, I will make a f...

The small original 8 digit-loop is 42 m., the track through the large curve with all the bridges is about 30 m. In “the highend” (in the lowest part for the garden) I’m ready to lay down the next 50 m of track. When I finish the large loop I’ll be around 200 m for the first singletrack layout - and double up in the future, when I finish the second track loop. If you want it in ft., just make it x3,3. 🚂😊

track power is just a mess outside, when we did it way back in the day we had a connection to the track every 2 - 3 Meters That is just 1/2 the speed my 2-6-6-2 do on a 5 cell battery, my little porter it is just on a 4 cell battery, but it is about all i can fit in one of the small ore cars, it is also smaller than the 5200 MAH batteries i have for the big trains. We do prefer to have the battery on a trailing car or tender, my friend even have sound system in a tender.

My friend is now talking about dismantling the track, and sell it all. We will see. BTW i have worked on MY during my apprenticeship at DSB in the early / mid 80ties, so yeah i know my way around those. I actually made a couple of speaker stands out of Pistons from a GM diesel, not sure if it was from the V16 though, threw them away after a while as they was too small for some of my speakers, and quite heavy for speaker " feet " It was cool how these pistons would " swim " on the rods so the piston could more around, i think it was for wear leveling CUZ i think these engines was also submarine engines before uncle Sam got all nuclear. I also have a table beer opener, made out of a exhaust valve for a train engine, or that is i think i still have, i have not been into beer drinking since the late 80ties, but it was made much like stelton beer openers

Since it is 6-axle trucks it is more similar to a U.S.A. E9 but with control cabs on both ends. Will you strip out the Piko electronics or keep them intact and incorporate the R/C decoder?

These MY was produced from 1954 - don’t know what model exactly was the american prototype for these swedish build locos, but the motor was a 16 cyl. 2-stroke GM’s. They’ve got six axels because of the max. axel weight in Denmark. Yes, I’ll strip the Piko-stuff and put in Revo-RC receiver+sound. That’s how I made my F7a.

I have never been a fan of the Revo system. I was a long time user of CVP's AirWire but this past year I have switched to using Ring Engineering's RailPro for most of my locomotives along with a few SoundTraxx Blunami installs to use at public functions to entice the younger generation by operating with an Iphone or Android phone. I know USAT users some LED lights but when I install decoders I replace all the lighting with new LED's. The worst part about opening up USAT locomotive shells that I have is dealing with those awkward springs on their operable doors.

  • @thelittlecamerachannel

Fantastisk projekt.

@@harrildrailroads5584 Yeah. My friend cant do much due to his arthritis, also he have other things too, and ADHD so his focus easy get sidetracked. ATM he is building on a 1:24 scale track for the little off-roas card in his stable, he gotten quite a bit done already in there. Just no work here in winter as even in the summer he freeze his hands very easy. I am hoping to get some weeds pulled out this year, and replace a wrongfully placed R2 piece of track with a R3 as otherwise my friends trains can not navigate the inner loop. Which is kinda funny CUZ my 2-6-6-2 deal with that just fine. Also the foundation for our bridge somehow collapsed as if a elephant been up on it, so need to do something about that too, and both loops cross that bridge. Anyway hope for a long summer, and not one that end in June like this past summer.

Very enjoyable. I wonder if any outdoor garden G scale runs on track power. With that you might be able to run more or less continuously during a snowfall to keep up with it. Or have it go at intervals on a timer with an appropriate setting if on battery, keeping equipment in the tunnel between runs. Fun to think about.

That’s a funny idea. But I wouldn’t let it run unattenden too long - accident happens! 🙃 The first winther I ran the trains on track power. But as you can see here, the loco gets in trouble sometimes, because it looses electric contact sometimes. 🚂🙃 ua-cam.com/video/3w96xNAnmuY/v-deo.htmlsi=9C4qt2u2JxWeetqh

@@harrildrailroads5584 I hear ya. Here's another one then; run DC current through each track with the track distance itself being the load. Maybe a couple of amps. The voltage needed would depend on the total track resistance value. If it was 1 ohm for example, it would take 2 volts to push 2 amps with 4 watts dissipated. I'm only guessing at the actual resistance, and I don't know how many watts it would take. The rails can definitely melt the snow directly on top and right next to them. They'd become dry too. Between the rails and whatever side body clearance is needed would still be an issue. If you try it let me know how it works out.
