Big East basketball was something else back then.Georgetown played for the national championship three times, losing two of the games by a combined three points. Syracuse and Seton Hall lost their respective championship games by one point each. The conference schedule really galvanized teams for deep runs in the tournament.
This is Saint Johns year!! It's Ricky baby!!
Once the new college basketball game comes out, I’ll revive the once great Old Big East
Football ruined The Big East basketball. Best basketball in the 80s’.
I hated Georgetown until the sweater reveal. Then I just loathed them, but respected them. 😂
The golden days of basketball!!
The best defender ever and one of the best PLAYERS ever. You can easily make a case for him being the best player along with Tom and Jerry.
Gave me chills watching this live...and still does today!!!!
Dang forgot all about these, like early 2000s I believe, I watched em all 💯👍❤️
4 of 5 starters frm Gtown end up in nba
They need one more blck guy in that team 😂
LETS GO JOHNNIES BABY!!!!!!!
When I was a kid this man felt like my grandpa. That feeling never quite went away to this day
Miss Bob, Ralph and Lindsey..... my childhood....
Loved this team. They played so well together despite a so-so talent level. Between the Knicks and the Redmen, there was a lot of magic in the Garden that season.
Man the Lopez hype was crazy........ I remember him being dubbed the Dominican Jordan lol
i remember The Hype - cover of SI
kinda givin it away in the thumbnail...
Big win over a really good Syracuse team that should have knocked out defending champion Arkansas in the 2nd Round.
Not the first game but this felt like the official beginning of the Jarvis era.
My Brother Michael Lloyd #15 Dunbar Poet Legend ,McDonald's All American Class of 92 Starting G for the 1992 Mythical USA TODAY National Champions 29-0.
How is he doing today. I remember watching him at Syracuse
We definitely saved our best performances that season for national TV. This was the game where every St. John's fan realized how horribly Mahoney had misused Roshown McLeod.
Back when ESPN actually let us play on Big Monday...
This was such a fun team to root for. I miss those days.
I don't remember this one at all. Tbh, that whole '96-'97 season is kind of lost on me. Either way, any win over UConn is good with me.
One of the best games that team played all season. Great memories!
OMG!!! Absolutely awesome bass🏀🏀
Hard to find a better combination than Marcus Hatten and Don Criqui.
Another great Johnnie win. Thanks!
Did we win this one? So used to seeing SJU losses on YT I almost have to ask... I do remember losing the rematch at MSG a month or so later. Another great upload, thanks!
St. John’s won this game
THIS IS ON LEBRON JAMES's 13TH BIRTHDAY PARTY!
Yasssssss, this is what I need in my life. Thanks for posting, hopefully there's a lot more to come!
Once a Redmen are a Redmen forever
St. John's didn't have dorms the three years I was there
Bill Esposito was the SID there when I was attending there. He was quite a character
This auto played without me noticing and coach sounded so much like Denzel Washington i thought it was a movie.
Thank you, thank you, thank you to whomever put up this video
LETS DO IT LADIES & GENTLEMEN!
the jonnies had that great semi re emergence in 99 -00 ..
I saw this game live from an off-campus bar at SUNY/Albany.
"Leo your boy was able to make it to 6 Overtimes! You were only able to make it to Three!"😂 Good one Bill!!!!👍

Legend Kool Moe Dee rappin on that commercial orange juice commercial with Dominique Wilkins.
That Boston accent 😂
Alltime greatest
Should’ve never changed
They didn't change until Looie retired in 1992.. He to this day, wasn't having any of that
Mets have made a lot of mistakes...but Murphy, Nelson, and Kiner from the getgo was maybe the 3 best guys you could find for an expansion franchises broadcasting booth
Big East Basketball was the best basketball I've watched just the games and moments that I've experienced in my 34 years from seeing UCONN and Syracuse battle 6 OT's in 2009, to Pitt and UCONN meeting in three straight Big East Championship Tournaments including a classic double OT championship in 2002, to Kemba Walker leading UCONN to five wins in five nights in 2011, to Gerry McNamara's heroics of 2006, to Pitt pulling off four wins in four nights in 2008 culminating with an upset of top seed Georgetown in the title game, to the classic moments that I never got to see, but saw clips of and read about it: The rivalry between Syracuse and Georgetown, the history of Villanova, Providence, Seton Hall, St. John's and 1980s. I don't care what anyone says about the ACC or Big 10 in basketball, it will never ever ever, compare to the Big East Basketball days ever. There is just something about playing in that tournament at Madison Square Garden, that was special.
Goosebumps
