Fair point, maybe calling it my “impressions” rather than a “review” would eliminate that objection, although, based on your comment, I’m not sure that you watched the whole short video? Don’t you argue a few points here that I didn’t make?

Sigh. What a presumptuous comment. All I said was that was how he pronounced it. Of course I’ve seen the letter he sent to a fan where he said you can pronounce them any way you like, accompanying the list of the way he pronounced them. I clearly prefer my own pronunciation with the long a, and will continue to use it. Strange thing to take offense to, and comment on, if you ask me.

It was definitely more tricky the way I did it, but I'm mostly curious to see what you mean by installing from the other direction: all the videos I watched from Diesel Geek, who makes a replacement set of bushings, show just pushing it in from the US Driver's side: are you in the UK?

Sorry for the delay. I'm in the US. I have before photos but never took the after photos. Essentially you remove the plastic pieces and the final medal bracket just as Diesel Geek says. Then you remove the bracket that surrounds this bushing. The Bushing is pressed in from the right hand side (passenger side) and then the bracket is reinstalled. In the end the shifter plastic is inserted in the hole from the same side as the bushing and the finger springs hold the bushing in place. I took this through all gears before re-assembly. I re-watched the diesel geek video in fast-forward and didn't see them actually do this step... so I'm not sure if my approach was perfect but it seems to be working and holding up will in the last week of driving.... If I have a need to take it apart again I'll capture a photo! (Note: Before the top bushing, I also used the hole saw bit just as Diesel Geek recommended and inspected the bottom bushing. Amazingly it was in good shape so I left the original). Then I put it all back together. @@TheCincinnatiDad

Thanks for your kind words! I agree about Tullamore Dew (and in the comments I"ve been asked to make a video of that) but I've never worked it out as a one guitar version to my personal satisfaction, to be honest! I'll have to practice it.... I've studied what live videos of Dan playing it are on UA-cam and that's helped, but there's not good footage that I've found! Cheers!

@@TheCincinnatiDad I'd be happy to help with that, at least my take which I think is pretty effective.... not sure what mechanism we could communicate. If you would like, let me know if there is a PM mechanism, I'm not familiar with. But yes, you're not likely to find a good visual out there as I'm not sure he ever played it solo acoustic. In many concerts over the years I never saw that, just once or twice with band early on, maybe Fools Gold, where he invariably played electric on that with a lot of movement up the board in the middle frets IIRC, which I don't do or suggest with an acoustic version. But, to me it plays well as a solo or duo/ acoustic, always got good response. Regardless, I'd give it a go in just single drop D for Tullamore Dew, starting in Dm7 and just continue on with that.

I just pushed it in with some leverage until it felt solid, although I didn’t get a “click” or anything, and it has stayed in place (I just took the shift boot off for another reason about two weeks ago and it was still in place).

It would have been so great if he had done that!! Luckily there are some dedicated fans that have shared their observations about his songs, much more than I have done, that's for sure. Anyway, the song is in the key of D, in drop-D tuning, so it follows a fairly typical chord structure. There's a live version of Dan playing this on here ( Dan Fogelberg-Nexus-Humpreys97) that shows what he did, and it's mostly open voicings of D, C, G and A with that one extra stretch to the 4th fret on the A string during the descending line in the chorus: he doesn't even bother with the 5th fret of the low D string like I show starting in my video at 7:49. In the kind of standard chord chart notation, the open voiced chords (I'll caveat that because of the voicings, these chord names are not "correct" at all, it's just to communicate what I think you are asking. I apologize if I'm over-simplifying). D is 000230 C is 030030 G is 020030 or 020033 and a regular D 000232 followed by a regular A 002220. Technically you shouldn't play the low D on the C, G, or A chord, but the D note is already in every chord in these voicings, so it's not a big deal if you do. It's kind of a drone throughout the whole song! Also, if it's easier for you finger's memory to play the standard shapes, that works, but definitely DONT play the low D string on the 3rd fret for the standard G chord shape, that will be ugly! :) So, to play along with the verses, it's D (across the vein of night there cuts a ) C (path of searing light) G [don't play the low D string at all] (burning like a beacon on the) D (edges of our) A (sight). Repeat that for the next line, then to the chorus D 000232 (wealthy the) stretch the pinky to the A4th fret 040230 or, alternatively 040030 (spirit that) same G as before (knows its own) A (height)...etc. Now, the "riff" is odd to just strum with, but it's totally doable, it's really just regular D (000232), a version of Em7 (x02030) and a similar version of Bm7 (004030) and back to D. I hope that helps!

I'm over 50 now and really just started playing everyday for the last 2 years so even though that info above is challenging I can at least now make more sense of it then I could maybe even 6 month ago. Thank you for typing all of that out. I'm sure it took a little time. That is probably the only video regarding nexus and I am not really surprised considering the age of the song and the fact that Dan is gradually dropping out of musical consciousness. I feel like he was really cheated out a longer life as maybe he would have seen a later resurgance with his music if he had been able to continue touring. Long live Dan Fogelberg music!
