    I've had the 6500 C3 for many years and have caught a lot of barracuda in off shore/nearshore salt water fishing. Just slays them. Fabulous for rock fish and lings. Definitely a good reel for fishing all fresh and some nearshore saltwater use. Too small for deep water use, and don't try it for yellowtail unless you're catching local home guard yellows. Ugly sticks are good tough rods. They're heavy and have no feel but they're cheap and durable. A garden hose has more sensitivity. But it's a perfect beater. I have an Ugly stick Tiger rod. The tip is soft with a strong backbone. But I wouldn't want to cast it all day. They're not G. Loomis, but it doesn't cost like G. Loomis or Shimano Calcutta rods You can get one for $40-$70. Perfect for river fishing where high end gear is not needed for soaking chicken livers or stink baits for cats.

    Get a 7-foot zebco rhino tough glow tip rod they come with lifetime warranty unlike Shakespeare's ugly stik and you can get it in one piece or two and how thick was the line that you said you put on there I don't even use that thick of a line for my leaders bridge Fishing all you need is 15 to 20 lb braid 30 lb braided liter for for Open water 50 lb braid leader for rock & jetties I'll be cleaning classy tie line to line knots, not to a barrel swivel 🧐 you know what if you buy $100 combo from sports authority you shouldn't even make a UA-cam video on it😅😅

    I would like to find out more about the reel. I see a lot of mixed reviews on Amazon about the reel either jamming up or just plain crapping out. While those are my concerns, the biggest thing I'm coming across with budget spinning reels is the neck being so weak in a way when you're pulling in a heavy load that it starts to buckle. You can literally see the reel twisting back and forth side to side on its neck. I'd just assume getting an aluminum frame reel. But the problem I'm running into is spinning reels manufacturers like Daiwa and Penn don't make a 4000 size spinning reel with a 5. 3:1 or 5.0: 1 gear ratio.

    Next time you get the urge to try carp again try bleeding them before you kill them. It's not inhumane and they just kind of slowly, peacefully go to sleep. Turn your carp, or any other fish actually, and you'll see this thin line of flesh separating the two gills underneath the head. That's where their, jugular vein, is. Using a good pair of kitchen sheers cut through that flesh. If you don't see a lot of blood immediately then you didn't cut deep enough. Once you make the cut put them back in your fish basket, live well, or just keep them on your stringer and lower them back into the water so that they can properly bleed out. The water helps stop the blood from coagulating so that it's still beating heart pumps 99% of the blood out of the fish. It's the blood that gives fish that fishy taste. But carp, buffalo fish, gar fish, suckers, and even catfish, their blood is unusually strong and that is exactly the biggest reason people complain about the taste of fish. Soaking them over night in a saltwater brine helps. But is nowhere as effective as bleeding your fish. This should be done just before you leave for the day unless you have a cooler full of ice to keep them cool. Even if you do. I'd still suggest waiting until just before you stop fishing for the day. Then cut their throats put them back in the water and give them a good five minutes to bleed out. Don't hit them in the head or otherwise kill them before bleeding. It'll still do a decent job but without the beating heart pumping the majority of the blood out. Your still going to have some unseen blood flavoring the meat. Put them on ice as quickly as you can once they are bled out. Your fish also produce adrenaline while you're fighting them and bringing them in. Cutting their throats and allowing them to slowly, peacefully, bleed out in the water also helps alleviate most of the testosterone levels that can also effect the taste and quality of the meat. Good luck and tight lines.

      @@fishinglife1016I finally got a chance to check one of those out at Sportsman's Warehouse. The spinning reels are quite heavy. I have a set of Daiwa Eliminators which are all aluminum construction. Those reels are actually lighter than the spinning reel on the ugly stik catfish. Not by a little... A lot! Also, the ugly stik catfish spinning reels is basically just a Shakespeare and are not very smooth. When you turn the crank to flip the bail it sticks or drags. You pretty much have to flip it over manually with your free hand. I have some budget Daiwa D-waves that are way smoother and half the weight of the Shakespeare reels. I may try buying just the rod and pairing it up with that reel.

    Just got my two 8-ft versions today. It looks like they've changed something compared to the one you're showing. They added an extra line guide near the tip. They're more bunched up at that end much like the orange catfish special rods from ugly stik. But all in all they're nice. The white rods feel lighter than the catfish special orange rods. Also the tips are stiffer than the catfish special rods. Plus the rear grip length on the catfish white rods are a tad bit shorter. I'll get back with you on what I think of the 8-foot version after I take them out on the water for a full day of fishing.

    • @fishinglife1016
      @fishinglife1016 2 роки тому

      Good to hear that they added an extra tip. That always seems to improve the feel of the rod. Are you saying that the tips are a little stiffer on the orange rods? If so, that might help if you are needing to use more weight. I noticed that the white rods really have the tip bent over if you are using more than 3-4 ounces, which I normally do not. Definitely let me know how each compares after a day of fishing. It would be great to hear which one would be better for catfishing.

    • @independentthinker.273
      @independentthinker.273 2 роки тому

      @@fishinglife1016 The white catfish rods are much stiffer compared to the orange catfish special rods. After spending a great deal of time comparing both in my backyard I decided to stick with my catfish specials and return the white catfish rods. The white catfish rods are much top-heavy. With having a shorter handle by one or 2 in makes it a lot harder to get the leverage to cast that kind of rod. With my catfish specials the reel sits up further away from the end of the handle which allows me a lot more casting leverage on the rear grip. Overall the catfish specials are much lighter in weight. Also I find that I like the shrink wrapped rubber gripping on the catfish specials over the EVA foam that is used on the white rods. Don't get me wrong. The catfish rods in white are a decent rod for the money. There's a lot to be appreciated with it. But the catfish special takes it to the next level. At least for me it does. Caught my personal best for the end of the year. 20-in striped bass on threadfin shad.

  • @independentthinker.273
    @independentthinker.273 2 роки тому

    Just picked up two of the seven foot version. Great rods! Also ordered two of the 8 ft version. Can't wait to compare them to the orange 8 ft ugly stik catfish special bait casting rods that I have been using this year. The C3 is a great reel. Very smooth! But they're even better with the power handle added. If I was just throwing lures then I could get by with using the paddle handle. But for heavy sinkers and cut bait even with the sinkers only being up to 3 to 4 oz, paddle handle does give you cramps in your hands when retrieving. The power handles for the newer C3s are much more expensive than the flat power handle version that usually goes for $20 I ordered the bent power handles from Abu Garcia. Each handle cost me $59 a piece. Yikes! But ergonomics are important to me. So I was willing to pay that price to get handles that actually fit and we're made for my reels. Have you done a review yet on the orange ugly stik catfish special rods yet?

    • @fishinglife1016
      @fishinglife1016 2 роки тому

      I have thought about getting a power handle for my reel, but just never pulled the trigger. It does get kind of tiring on my hand when I am reeling them in a lot over a full day of fishing. I might have to get one to see how I like it. I had never even heard of the orange Ugly Stik Catfish Special rods until now (I just searched them on Google). Those are some really slick looking rods! When I am in the market for a new rod, I will definitely give those a hard look. How do you like using them?
