The joy and suffering of amateur classical musicians: we may not play like professionals, but enjoy and explore music all the same!
Some of my casual series:
#playwithhilda: send in a tune on any instrument or voice and I shall get back with my improvisation of accompaniment!
#practicewithhilda: my practice tips on classical pieces!
#10yearpianochallenge: playing pieces after 10 years of not playing them, often with additional handicap!
#hildaonotherinstruments: mainly a pianist, I also play violin, organ, guitar and sing amateurly, and try out other music instruments!

OKAY THIS IS THE MOST HUMBLE CHANNEL ON UA-cam
Welcome to my channel 😆
I've used the FP-90x extensively and the voicing is terrible. The keys also have soft and loud volume issues. Some if you hit them aggressively shoot up in volume, others are too soft. The "Piano Designer" helps a little, if you want to take time out of playing and practice. The action is excellent. The voicing and volume issues are very annoying. I'd never buy it again. It's probably alright for practice but not for public performance. Roland sound engineers suck.
Thanks for sharing. It's good enough for me as an amateur and definitely better than I expected from a digital piano!
Can it come off easily from the homestand???
The keyboard is fixed to the stand by screws. There are other stands to choose from and I suppose it is easier for the keyboard to come off with those stands?
@hildaveryamateurpianist8162 o heard it Is 4 large screws? That you take off by hand???
You can take the screws off by hand. The keyboard is pretty heavy though, at least for me
You‘ll never find a perfect digital piano, but I find this one very very good.
Indeed!
Good that there is an interpretation by M.A. Hamelin!
"hilda very amateur pianist" - Chopin himself
😮
Inspiring! Like the honest feedback. This is one of few I am eyeing to take lessons on 🤓🤥. I think the clicking is with many digital Keyboard brands.. 🥴. Cheers from SoCal. 🤘
Best wishes with your piano playing! I haven't played a lot on digital keyboards so not sure how to describe the touch but yes clicking is the word!
excellent How old did you start learning the piano? How long did this piece take?
Thanks for your encouragement! I can't remember when I started learning piano but probably around 5 or 6. I first learnt this piece decades ago and it likely took me months before I stopped practising😀
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Obviously I only laugh like that when my sister is around🤣
:)
The banana 😭😭😭
🤦🏻♀️
Fine..i have older roland fp8 and sounds great..it is fp30?
Looks like you are a roland OG customer! Mine is FP90x
This is so hard rhythmically. It took me a good bit of studying to nail them
Indeed! Imagine sight reading this in the first orchestra rehearsal
This piece also has polyrhythms which you are lucky that you did not play any.
I definitely can't draw circles with my right hand and squares with my left simultaneously 🫠
Thanks Hilda, long time not hearing this song. From HKIOC Michael
So relatable! By the way, that last movement is one of my faves. Couldn't play it, love to hear it.
well done in putting out a video which does not just show a perfect performance but a learning performance. I play this only in Cmajor. you have inspired me to learn it in the othe keys. thank you 😊
Best wishes with your piano practice!
awesome!
Thanks for your encouragement!
Level 9: use a pedal Level 10: have a piece that's so short that you don't need to turn the page
Haha definitely
The GPB was so much fun to listen to! I know it’s a bit rough around the edges, but it’s a great start! I always memorize music if possible to avoid page turning, even when accompanying singers, but of course there’s often not time for that. Also, it’s awesome that you can sing and accompany yourself! I wish I could do that 😅
Thanks for your encouragement! I used to play the piano when young but stopped for around a decade due to work until picking it up again in recent years. My GPB is past its prime- the recording was done 10 years after I had last played it in a recital and it's one of those pieces I wouldn't want to work on it anymore after performing! How can you memorize accompanying parts? I can never do that!
@@hildaveryamateurpianist8162 Here's a video of my friend singing Stänchen by Schubert, with me accompanying from memory: ua-cam.com/video/U4cnl6VL75w/v-deo.htmlsi=M4q6VbUKpMOq5_2X It took me a while to memorize! Large sections of the piece are repeated, which helps. Analyzing the harmony definitely makes it much easier, but it can still be tricky to remember exactly which chord inversions are used (especially when two phrases are similar, but have different inversions 🙄). Also, it helps that my friend usually has to rehearse a lot with me to get the piece right, so I get plenty of practice! 😅 (Don't tell her I said that 🤣)
Amazing! The repeated sections will likely be more confusing than helpful to me though (where am i now). And my friends would be thankful if I am not sight reading
don't forget the page turning pedal most ipad users use! (all the pianists at my university use it hahaha)
I know! I haven't got that as it's too professional for me! Besides, if I can mess it up in my mind I can certainly mess it up with my foot!
@@hildaveryamateurpianist8162 Too professionnal for a professional pianist...hmmm
May I please ask what the last piece is?
Hi. It's the 3rd movement of Beethoven's moonlight sonata
Exactly! Let me put a card there
@@hildaveryamateurpianist8162 Ah sorry I meant the piece before that 😅
Oh it's Chopin: Andante Spianato et Grande Polonaise Brillante ua-cam.com/video/x94SHiR3hy8/v-deo.html
@@hildaveryamateurpianist8162 Thank you so much!
Any iPad app to roll the music notes automatically?
That would probably be too professional for me
So Very nice, but would you recommend the 30x version for a very beginner, 7 weeks on a keyboard!!!!Z??????????? Thanks
Welcome to the piano gang! While FP-30x is good value for money, 60x and 90x are definitely next level. Honestly I think beginners deserve no less and if you get a more decent piano at first it might give you more incentive to persist and excel!
You took your exams when you were 5?
I wish. I am older than that, although just a little older.
Wakaka, i like 3'23"!!
All my embarrassing failures there! Thank God every year there is a new start
By the way I heard FTCL can be done online starting next year. In case you are also interested
We all miss you.
As always, so pleasant to hear your piano pieces.
never heard a digital piano with such a quiet action, but after looking up the model you have i guess that is what you get for such a high price
I had intended to buy at most FP-60X, but after trying all 3 (30X, 60X and 90X) at the showroom, I couldn't resist but ended up buying 90X. There are more expensive models that sound, look and feel very much like an acoustic piano but not portable and much more expensive!
awesome
Why would you use the thing on the head? I get the reason, but I mean what is the ultimate goal you try to archieve with it?
Hi! Just for fun, and the metronome cover came handy. I had been amused by Twoset Violin, the classical music comedy duo, playing well while hula hooping or swapping the left and right hands, and thought I would try something similar😅
I’m lucky enough to have a grand at home but wood keys on the digital is a super nice feature
Wow lucky you! What kind of grand? The wooden keys did make the digital piano much more expensive though!
tought it was another one of those 4 month begginers absolutetely destroying and shitting on this piece, but wow this is some really great playing finally, really nice piano!
It has been 20 years since I first learnt this piece! Anyone nailing it in 4 months would be a prodigy!
It has been 20 years since I first learnt this piece! Anyone nailing it in 4 months would be a prodigy!
That's some great playing! 🔥 Which piano is this? 😮
Thanks for watching! It's a Roland FP-90X.
Wow Very nice playing. 😁
Thanks for your encouragement!
Glad to know you settle down. Play more hymns for us.
There's always a thing or two that makes turning things on the first time a bit of a hassle. Still, it looks nice to play on!
It gives me a bit of a scare when something I pay so much for doesn't work at first. This happens quite a lot to me and almost always due to myself not using it properly 😅
Cute video and you captured the excitement of receiving your new digital piano. I’m strongly leaning towards the same model so this video was helpful in seeing how well it is packaged. Enjoy!
@Ratlins9 Two months into it, I am still very happy. And I haven't even explored its wealth of functions- I am still using it as if it was an acoustic piano! Just make sure you have it delivered to you rather than carrying home by yourself
It's unbelievable to read Kapustin's pieces like that! 🤩 But I want to say that the author must have listened to this prelude at least a couple of times. Because she caught the rhythm perfectly.
You are absolutely right! I had listened to it a few times before I could no longer resist the urge to play it myself 😄
the background music is distracting
Thanks for your suggestion- let me make it softer next time!
Very soothing to listen to this again 9 months later… thank you…
Pretty impressive only in 3 minutes. Two of them was new to me. Thanks to you learned it👍🏻
Remembering the names (or nicknames) was even harder than remembering the music itself
Any chance to hear the whole piece?
Not until I finish practising!
Nice reading!!
imagine clapping someone to this rhythm. *that bouta be some hell of a trip!*
Interesting idea!😅
Share with us later a version with 3 more hours of practice! I wonder how it would be like! 😜
By then I should be playing by memory 😉
Hello, Why don’t you try/learn Op. 25 No. 9 by Chopin?
Good idea! I learnt it almost 20 years ago and will play it soon in my 10-year piano challenge series!
Here you go! ua-cam.com/video/xyWY8yeT1NE/v-deo.html
