Learn about optical mirrors, including front surface mirrors, first surface mirrors, beamsplitter glass, and anti-reflective glass.
λ/8 Eighth Wave First Surface Mirror
The production of a high-quality optical component is an exacting process, requiring a high level of skill, quality equipment, and close attention to detail. Our λ/8 wave first surface mirror glass offers a superior quality compared to other first surface mirrors on the market. The λ/8 flatness is achieved by polishing float glass down to a flat surface, then coating with aluminum and the protective overcoat. Typically, other companies are only able to produce the mirrors on float glass, which is 4-6λ per inch. To the naked eye, the two mirrors look the same, however the improved quality of the λ/8 is immediately noticeable under magnification.

Optical Mirror - First Surface Mirror for Science & Engineering
I just found this video and my parents don’t believe me
Or you can smash the mirror. If you see a wall, then there’s no room. If you see a room, then there’s foul play.
At 3:00, did he really NOT show us what the flashlight looks like on a one-way mirror? I guess it just reflects back, but ow hard would it have been to show us? Not too good!
This could have been a much better demonstration had he had 2 mirror setups as actual mirrors stands instead of that little 6×6 square piece of mirror. If he went to the trouble to make this demonstration, why not go to a little extra trouble and do it right? Like cutouts of an actual room or interrogation room or bedroom, etc.
What if I see 4 reflections of my cell phone flashlight???
Interesting... nothing of that is true😅 My wardrobe-mirror doesn't show a gap. Obviously a multi-layer glas. And - by physics - there is only one test! The mirror-image is less bright. Bubbles, gap behind... nonsense!
I just jokingly did this with my house's mirror that isn't even connected to any walls and there is ZERO space between my finger and the reflection
I can't understand nail trick can you explain in simple words
I am now in Thailand, in Shanghai, in the movenpick hotel, in room 529. All the mirrors are normal, except for the bathroom mirror, and I am very afraid.
What's a "meer"?
I tried it with all my mirrors and there is not a single gap lol
Thanks James nice information 🎉🎉
Good info. Thanks.
NOT TRUE. I just tested a hand held mirror I have at home and my fingernail touched - there was no gap. What's the purpose of this fake info?
2:36 (U R In the Middle) You are not showing what the light really does. You messed up when you mention that we should see the light going through the Mirror. (1) The part you messed up. The side we are on. What does it look like when we can tell that it's a Two way mirror. You only mention the other side. ?????
You can’t be posting these videos. One of my renters might start to catch on 😢
He looks like Dwight (David Cross) from Scary Movie😂
Uhm, I’m confused. My fingernail touched and I don’t know if I’m just paranoid, but I want to take my mirror down and check. I’m. Only 12 so idk how I would do that but I’m worried because my fingernail touches
Great to know. Thanks. God bless.
😮😮😮😮😊😊❤
Why don't you check the space behind?
James doesn’t seem to have a total command of the subject. Is he selling mirrors?
My first thought was "but then the sky would be a mirror of what you see naturally", then oh yeah that's what you get in a reflector telescope...duh. Great idea!
If it is a 2 way mirror, it reflects on both sides stupid. They are 1 way mirrors you are trying to describe
If your room has a mirror on the ceiling, sleep under the bed.
You all know this only works on surface mirrors? A two way mirror is a mirror with about 50% light transmission. So the room with more light it looks like a real mirror. If you turn your surface mirrors around it would look like a regular mirror.
A real mirror is a simple glass, with silver nitrate (or whatever reflective nowadays) that is on the back of the mirror. Normally, the space between your finger and the mirror, is the thickness of the glass before the silver nitrate (before the reflection) . If you see 5mm space between you finger and the mirror, it's because the glass is 5mm thick. But some hotels (or any building) use 2mm and 3mm (because of prices). It can be hard to see the space between, when it's 2mm thick The second method is (not safe): close your light, and with your flashlight (or any beam of light) you aim directly at the mirror. You might see behind. But I saw some houses with a 2way mirror and a small door with a real glass behind it. Hidden in a cupboard, face to the bathroom. They can close/open, when people is checking carefully the mirror. So you never see behind the mirror, if the door is closed. It was pretty creepy, lmao!
Thanks
I have a Normal Mirror in my home and the Reflection Touches the Finger. I can Remove the Mirror from the wall and put it wherever I want. and it's not a 2 way.
UTINI!
Dang. The flash phone thing is really easy. Thank you so much for this information. 🙏🙏🙏
There's no gap on my small hand held mirror so this doesn't count
Why me-yor? miyor? Why not mirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrror?
The guy just explained all pervs how to make two way mirror undetectable.
I always get suspicious when the mirror it’s in the decor design, and there is a space between the wood decor and the wall ! Very weird if it’s not necessary
Some true mirrors do not leave a gap. These are usually small though because they're very expensive to make so you'll probably only see them as decorative objects. These are real, no distortion mirrors and they don't leave a gap. However, if you have a large bathroom mirror, anything really bigger than 10 inches. The best way is to use the flashlight test, not the nail gap test. Additionally, some two-way mirrors actually do leave a gap. The best thing to do is to turn off all the lights and have a flashlight or your cell phone light and hold it directly up against the glass. If it penetrates the glass, you've got a two-way mirror on your hands. Another way to do this is give the knock test and if it sounds hollow as if there's space behind it, most likely a two-way mirror. Be careful guys. They're getting better and better at making these to a mirrors to look more and more like the real deal so that nail gap test does not work all the time. Be safe!!!
Some people are so paranoid they will now be doing finger tests and cell phone light tests against the mirror on their rear view and side car mirrors.
I’m the landlord. It’s true. Y’all owe me a mirror. A 2 way one. And btw, your nephew does c**aine🙂
The fingernail trick isn't working. All mirrors here including my own have no gaps. UA-camr's lies again and again.
Nice, but what if you are trying to make a perfect hole without breaking the mirror.. say putting light holes to come through mirror for bathroom. Thank you.
finally the video that explains it all!
This is acctualy a myth because there are multiple diffent types of mirrors and mirrors where you can see through the back some you can see your finger touch the reflection some you can't
If I go past my mirror it's my bedroom so I have nothing to worry about.
I'd like you all to meet Pedro Pascal's cool and informative nephew, Bedro Baldscalp
shoot through it?
what about cupping hands around eyes = looking through from a dark side, plus flashlight to illuminate the other side = becoming the observer...?
Makes you think,,,
"Sir, what was the motive for the crime you committed?" "I wanted to be put in an investigation room so I could fingernail test the mirror."
What if plain glass installed in front of the one way mirror?
my finger nail touches and its not a 2 way mirror. after cleaning the mirror there was a gap
