Between 1984 and 1986. Onie Wheeler, who was the harmonica player, died in 84 and was replaced by McNeely. Howdy Forrester was still in good health here. An appearance on Nashville now in 1987 shows him extremely thin and gaunt looking, and he passed not long after

I sure miss the Old Grand Ole Opry. The Red Barn Backdrop, the long running Radio Commercials, the big ole stage with pews of people sitting on stage. Miss the real Country Music. All of the instruments on Stage. Sad to see it the way it is now 😭

Thank God for all the great Hawaiian slide-guitar musicians whose licks got used by countless dobro players.

Roy Acuff is an American Hero, when my father and 2 friends were stumbling around Nashville during WWII, they bumped into Bashful Brother Oswald and when he found out they were on leave from flying B-17 Bombers with the 8th Army Air Corps, (85% fatality from early morning bombing runs over Germany), he told them to follow him and Roy would want to meet you, they did, and Roy was the Mayor of Nashville in more ways than one, they had a great 48 hours. 70 years later Roy Acuff's nephew did a high risk 6 way open heart surgery on me, that other heart surgeons in Dallas had turned down as too risky. Small world, and the Acuff family walks on water as far as I am concerned!

Love the older (or real) country music! None better than this group. Oswald absolutely the best: comedian, excellent on dobro & banjo, country sound voice, etc. Should be in Hall of Fame, probably never will. Also, great talent Charlie Collins & Howdy F.

This is my favourite video of these two because Minnie Pearl was amazing, but when that hat came of she was Sarah Ophelia Colley Cannon and that was a woman even more beautiful and amazing
