Who is going to fill their shoes
My daddy was a engineer for seaboard coast line and he loved this song called it the national anthem
He was a one of a kind entertainer!!!
No one could play like Brother Oswald
Two of the greatest that was a big part of grand old opry great memories ❤
This is truly a great song. First song they played.
Love this so much! He was the ultimate showman!
Between 1984 and 1986. Onie Wheeler, who was the harmonica player, died in 84 and was replaced by McNeely. Howdy Forrester was still in good health here. An appearance on Nashville now in 1987 shows him extremely thin and gaunt looking, and he passed not long after
Legends
Love this.
Wonderful sound.
On a Saturday night on WSM 650 AM we used to listed to the Grand Ole Opry on the radio. I’ve heard this a gazillion times
Me,too. I miss him and this.
i allwaws like the wabash cannonball
You have a lot of company
Oh yeah ole Knob on the drums, Harold Weakley
I sure miss the Old Grand Ole Opry. The Red Barn Backdrop, the long running Radio Commercials, the big ole stage with pews of people sitting on stage. Miss the real Country Music. All of the instruments on Stage. Sad to see it the way it is now 😭
Some of the greatest musicians ever to grace the stage of the Opry
Wilma Lee Cooper ,(J Shepard's left), Jeanne Pruitt (red coat black pants, btw Connie & Skeeter), next to J Howard's right Carol Lee Cooper & Norah Lee Allen. These in addition to other comments on ladies' names.
What treasure the smoky mountain boys brother aswold Dobro of the Wabash cannonball is legandary
The legendary Roy Acuff is the king of country music
I recognize Jean Shepherd, Jeannie Sealy, Connie Smith, Jan Howard, and Skeeter Davis
The Smoky mountain boys along with there boss the king of country music Roy Acuff were the best ever
And he could really play
No one could ever play like Oswald
A legend in his time. No one better today!
Beautiful memories
The legendary Roy Acuff and his Smokey Mountain Boys. Professional musicians.
Thank God for all the great Hawaiian slide-guitar musicians whose licks got used by countless dobro players.
Roy Acuff is an American Hero, when my father and 2 friends were stumbling around Nashville during WWII, they bumped into Bashful Brother Oswald and when he found out they were on leave from flying B-17 Bombers with the 8th Army Air Corps, (85% fatality from early morning bombing runs over Germany), he told them to follow him and Roy would want to meet you, they did, and Roy was the Mayor of Nashville in more ways than one, they had a great 48 hours. 70 years later Roy Acuff's nephew did a high risk 6 way open heart surgery on me, that other heart surgeons in Dallas had turned down as too risky. Small world, and the Acuff family walks on water as far as I am concerned!
Real country music
From 1985
Excellent!!! When the Opry was still the "Opry".
Love the older (or real) country music! None better than this group. Oswald absolutely the best: comedian, excellent on dobro & banjo, country sound voice, etc. Should be in Hall of Fame, probably never will. Also, great talent Charlie Collins & Howdy F.
How come you cut it off ?
That's what a King looks like having fun.
Love that song. Remember Roy singing that on the Opry in the late 1970s and 1980s.
Great footage. 1985
Where is the rest of the song or did they only do this part?
This is my favourite video of these two because Minnie Pearl was amazing, but when that hat came of she was Sarah Ophelia Colley Cannon and that was a woman even more beautiful and amazing
