@@LoganBearDad yeah the storyline feels really jumbled seeing as you have to get through EVERY SINGLE commission before unlocking more of the main story. Like at that point they're not side missions anymore 😂 I think it's hilarious that the Cyber sleuth games have more dialogue than the ACTUAL visual novels. I'm super hopeful for the next Digimon story game, I'm so bummed that we didn't hear more about it this year.

@@Alternus. Yeah, I think the confusion mostly comes from them changing the name of the Digimon games to world 2, 3, and 4 in the west. I think there's really only three World games: World one, world reDigitized, and next order. Then the Digimon story games all play pretty similar. But everything else is a total grab bag 😅

@@GhostlyCarby yeah it feels like the main thing driving the series is the Kick-Ass monster designs. Just about every game has a grindy portion that kinda kills your momentum, even the v-pets have grinding now.

@@zacziggarot definitely, the choice of monsters is perfect. Favourite being Lucemon SM 🥹 hopefully the next game won't have any disappointments 🤞 the gameplay of Survive would have been fine but I don't like visual novel games at all 🤷 still love Digimon

Data squad? I like the game, I'm just annoyed that there's not a thing that tells you how many spaces are filled for each attack

Honestly the dialogue wasn't even that bad once I realized characters never talk for more than 3 text boxes, compared to Cyber Sleuth where they drone on and on in between chapters the dialogue in Survive was a bit easier to get through, especially when I could save mid dialogue and come back to it later.

I really like what survive did making things like floppy disks and USB flash drives seemed ancient making them out of stone. It's obvious though that it takes place in the modern day seeing as you're constantly using a smartphone for the menus and for searching for items. I love The vibes that they give you though that Digimon aren't necessarily digital but they've been around for decades possibly even centuries. Also the fact that they don't really call them Digimon was a nice touch

That's wild, I put cyber sleuth down, my ADHD had me struggling to get through the between chapter monologues. Didn't help that they telegraphed the major "they knew each other as kids, then got amnesia" and tried to play it off as a twist. At least that felt like where they were going with it, don't know never finished it. I tried hackers memory and couldn't even get past the wall of text of a prologue. I found Survive MUCH easier to get through. I think because it's voice acted even though it wasn't in English. As long as I hear a voice I can read it in that voice as if they were speaking English. Maybe that's not ADHD, or maybe it's just a different version, either way I think it's interesting and it's cool that we both get different games that appeal to us.

@@zacziggarot yeah the monologues in cyber sleuth especially is overbearing I find myself just skipping a lot of it cuz it's just so badly translated and it feels like 80% of it's just filler information but a lot of the story missions in cyber sleuth is voice acted it's a Japanese and I just assumed that it was my ADHD because I get distracted very easily I get up and walk around during dialogues and cutscenes and I do other things I look at my phone and I would just prefer games to be in English so I can still hear the story and I don't think I've ever played survive but a lot of the other Digimon games I tried playing I just really did not like the gameplay

I was pretty invested in the story, cyber sleuth's story is a bit less streamlined

Maybe eventually, I'm on year two right now in the game. Working on some guide videos. Videos have slowed down since my kid is in school and I have another kid coming next month. I want to make sure I'm in the right mood to make a video y'know?

Then people also accuse Digimon of copying Pokemon when all their games are different. People really can't handle there being two groups of monsters. You're right about the lack of consistency too, it seems like the evolution lines change every game. If Digimon could just get their act together they could top Pokemon's roster now that they're not using the full roster anymore. The problem is Digimon is run by the same company that owns One Piece and Dragon Ball. They can't get the same budget, OP and DB sell way better

@zacziggarot the think is, Digimon came way before Pokémon and most people don't even know or forget that. Yeah, Toei animation is pretty reckless when it comes to their properties, they only care about One Piece, everything else is just side content to them and Bandai Namco is pretty much the same, they only care about their biggest properties like Tekken, that's why all their anime adaptation games are all copies of each other, it's the same game released over and over with a few exceptions, and Digimon is unfortunately meaningless for them that's why they outsource the games to low-budget teams or studios.

@@DarkShadow-pe6ud Digimon didn't come way before Pokemon, they came out with the original v pets around the same time as Pokemon came out with red and green. Maybe because Digimon started with little LCD screens while Pokemon started out with a full game that people have a time discrepancy. Tamagotchi came later in the same year as Pokemon did, and Digimon came after that. They were both in development around the same time though so neither one is a copy of the other

@@DarkShadow-pe6ud I wouldn't say Digimon is meaningless to them because they're still able to try new styles of games with Survive. They're coming out with a new Cyber sleuth style game. People just have a difficult time with Digimon because there's three different play styles, you have the RPG games like cyberslueth and world 2 and 3, you have the Vpet sims like the first Sega Saturn game, world 1, redigitize, and next order. Finally you get the hodge podge of smash likes, strategy games, and tcg games. Also world 4 was a hack and slash. It's just difficult to pick a game since they're all wildly different

They already did that, they came out with an English version on the DS called re digitized re coded

@@zacziggarot Not true. They did make a 3ds version of the game called Digimon World Re:Digitize Decode BUT ,like the PSP version, an English translation patch was made by fans. Expedited by the work done on the PSP version. There has never been an official English version of the game.

Eh, from what I played in my first playthrough it was a pretty solid visual novel. It felt like I was watching a season of the anime, it makes me want to see all the endings to see if they left it open for a sequel which I'd totally be up for. I kind of like that there are three different current Digimon games available now and they all have wildly different play styles

@@Chimone97 When you compare Digimon tactics to the original anode and cathode on the wonderswan you really get a good idea of how far we've come 😁 Digimon games can be hit and miss but the ones we have now are at least an attempt at an improvement over the previous titles (though I still have a soft spot for the OG Digimon world over Next Order) unlike in Pokemon where they introduce a new gimmick each installment which is usually dropped in the next game

@@Chimone97 I getcha completely, sometimes it's fun to theorize different things that can be tweaked for a better game. I personally like the world playstyles a bit more but I'll admit that the Cyber sleuth games put Digimon back on the map

Feels like they've been trying to get into different forms of storytelling. Digimon Seekers was basically just a light novel. Kinda bummed about that, was at least hoping for an app or something. The strategy RPG parts were always on the back burner, they just wanted to try making a visual novel. Legitimately think they nailed it, I've played other visual novels where characters just drone on and on through pages of dialogue. Writing is much more concise in Survive, everyone gets straight to the point and you NEVER see anyone saying anything that takes more than three text boxes at a time. The story and exploration was pretty solid, I actually blew through the story so fast that I had to go grind a few levels, kept getting oneshot

I would not say less effort at all. Survive had to change companies and it’s budget mid development during the pandemic which caused them to have a lot of issues with the effort they had to put in. It’s actually amazing it came out as good as it did despite that.

That makes two of us, such a great game. Even as a non-fan, I love that game so much, and it made me watch Digimon lmao.

Eh 🤷 it has about the same metacritic score as the new Pokemon does. Kind of says something that the teams behind Digimon can make a game as decent as the Pokemon teams, especially when it's their first game of that genre. I don't see how doing AS GOOD as the market leader is a failure
