thats a nice black jeep there i hope someone is rebuilding it
Transmission 🤔 Its a wiper motor & assembly!! The Transmission is underneath the vehicle!! 🤭
🟢cta1284; 15.09’24- I did the clock spring fix to my 2013 JKU back in SEP 2023. Works great without slipping. JK Parking Brake Lever Repair (2013 JKU) •Repair adds a single wind on clock spring to re-tension parking cables. •The clock spring’s tension is not difficult to move. •Should be done with parking brake handle assembly in vehicle ITEMS NEEDED PULL LINE- •20 in. of 18ga wire (Stranded or solid, insulated or not) PLIERS- •Vise grip (Pull line handle) LEVERAGE TOOL- •Large screw driver, chisel or equivalent (Starts movement on clock spring) REPAIR PROCESS o Remove center console & associated wiring; makes the job easier. o Lower parking brake handle. o Cut 20 in. of 18ga wire. o Run wire 1/2 way through the bend of the clock spring’s hook that engages tab. (May need to push hook forward to get wire through) o Start a tight twist at the spring’s hook then continue twisting the wire together. o Run the twisted wire forward / down & feed it under clock spring towards rear of vehicle. o Attach vise grip to end of twisted wire. o The next step will require two movements at the same time- o 1) With a large screw driver, chisel or equivalent, push forward on clock spring hook & down in front while 2) pulling on the twisted wire with the vise grip. o Keep pulling until the hook lines up with the tab. o Shift hook over & slide hook back onto tab. o Re-install center console.
This was too easy, no tools were even needed for me
Im going to try this on my jk

Hi I also just installed one of these engines but I'm having issues starting it 1st try. Fresh gas added oil reinstall throttle cable and both starter wire n electrical clip. What else am I missing.
Beautiful.. do they have natural predators in these rivers?
I don't think so. I have never seen an aligator in these waters, and most boats are pretty small this far in.
Great tip! I've replaced one of those mechanisims before thinking it was faulty for this exact reason.
Might get more hits if you post it as linkage rather than transmission. Cute Klein bag.
Hey! I wanted to thank you for telling that the motor arm has to face the drivers side. I spent an hour looking through UA-cam and it wasn’t until I got to yours that I was able to finish this install.
Hey just a sidebar… I see your JK is a manual transmission, I have one too, an 08. My question is what is that harness cable conector not connected to anything above the yellow edge enclosure?
Thank you so much for the video
0.35 the mechanism is right where it should be at this point. You could add washers or spacers of some sort to keep the parking handle cable further out like it is at 0.35 Or ideally one should be able to shorten the brake csbles OR the parking brake csble but they arent made like that. The root cause of the issue is that either the cables are stretched or the clockspring has weakened I think ?
there is a stopper for the adjustment spring underneath the mechanism and it slides off the stopper allowing it to reset too far. Most videes completely miss this.
@@nookie420 thure is no "stopper" underneath. that has been totally mythbusted on forums. The guy who thought so was holding a rubber stopper from roof section that he thought had something to do with handbrake - it does not. The problem is the clock spring gets fatigued after a couple of years
❤ Thank you so much! You know I love to watch fireworks!
After 5 years I just fixed it this way😅 what a great day lol I didn't remove the console. I used an adjustable wrench to push it backwards and forward with my thumb 👍. Thank you master 🙏
Videod for my wife. She couldn't be here as she was with our son and her second newborn grandchild. Congratulations Grandma Tracey♡
Great vid,,,, both service manuals i have completely left out pulling the "adjustment lever" back until cables are tight,,,,,so simple ,,,,thanks a bunch ,👍
Awesome!! This is the only video that shows the motor swap and transmission placement! Thanks to you, I got it done and working after two years of no passenger side wiper lol! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Thanks man
Great video...thanks!
Hi my cable on the passenger side keeps retracting even though the lever is not engaged. Any idea why this might happened?
By retracting, do you mean getting tight, or getting loose? It's really a simple system. You may need to trace it back to the rear brake and make sure it's not failing.
@@robertnelson96 thanks for the reply, I was able to find the issue by taking out the back seat
Lmao not fixed it will just loosen , you need to make a bracket keeping that tension string held back
Still working. I guess over time it will loosen. The better fix was winding the spring one more turn, but I didn't make a video for that.
TBH, I have already addressed this. the final fix is to wrap the cable one more time. No need to make a bracket LMFAO
@@T..K..O.. I hope you make a video, I will tag it in mine if you do.
Thx.
Hold it back with safety wire
I eventually used a parachute cord to wind the spring one more turn. I wish I'd made another video, it wasn't that hard to do once I had the console off.
😆
The dude using springs seems best way.
Doesn't work. New one is 53 bucks. Horrible brake actuator. Dealer didn't even fix it.
Just replaced front and rear rotors and pads on my 2011 JKU . Cleaned up the shoes and adjusted them to the point i could just get the drum rotor over them. Still have to pull the handle all the way to the top. Going to try this tomorrow hope it works.
Did it work?
Yeah. Did it work?
Did it work?
Great tip that works perfectly fast and easy!!! Many times it bypassed resulting in wrong diagnosis and laborious rear drums job. Great! And...thanks very much! You made my day jejejejee, really!!!
you must have OEM (or exact equal) parking brake shoes. Some after market shoes are the wrong size (too short) where they rest on the adjuster assembly inside the brake drum, in which case your parking brake is darned near useless.
There is a way to tighten it from inside, but I didn't make a video. It's not as easy as the adjustment, but can be done using a thin cable or 550 paracord. You undo the park brake cable from the spring, pull the spring around another turn with your cable or 550cord, and reinsert the park cable. Than readjust the park brake as in this video.
Reach your finger in the right side of the park brake handle. Feel for the clock spring adjuster end. I took a screw driver like tool that I use for removing trim. It has a slight bend on it. I inserted it on the right side of the handle. pushed hard on the spring. All good. No need to remove console.
Which direction did you push?
@@conifergreen2 towards the rear of the car
Thank you so much. I pushed the little metal piece with a flathead through the trim without removing anything. The ebrake feels great now but it might become loose over time but its easy to re-adjust it isn’t really a problem.
Nice job!
Awesome, going to try it now.
Glad I found this video. Great job, fought all weekend trying to get a new bushing put in, hell no! I gave up and ordered the new linkage. Great job on this. Thank you.
2 days earlier seeing this video would have saved me 5 hours :) Thank you for this! Will share with other jeepers.
Hard to do one handed, good job. And you are right about the bushing bs five dollar repair. It lasted a couple of snow storms and popped off, I didn’t know you could only buy the linkage. But I’m the dude that always has to do the job twice, some people never learn, it’s what happens when your cheap.
Hii, this is revit up May i use this clip in next compilation video? Linked and credited on screen Thank You.
Hello Robert, can I feature it on my channel? Credited on screen & link in description.
Yes you may, Thank you.
Hi robert nelson, La, I wanted to ask the same If I can feature your clip "Close call, dashcam would have saved my butt if it went into full collision. " with credit back to you? Kindly, let me know. Thanks
Thanks for the pointer on the (arm needs to br located on the driver's). Much appreciated
I was racking my brain with that part also. Lol good video
Thanks! This is what I need i believe.
At 1:56 in the video, see that small bracket that his index finger is pointing at? Looks like a small square shaped bracket with a hold in it. On the JKs, there is a small hole right about where his left ring finger knuckle is pointing. Seems like you could run a spring from that hole (on the JK with the hole) to the lever he currently has his finger on at 1:56). On this version, still trying to figure out what that small bracket (square shaped with hole) is for?
A pin is placed there once the brake is aligned. It relives pressure so you can remove the cables safely.
Thank you for this. For the record, I bought my 2013 JK brand new and my parking brake lever has always been squishy (it would roll down the hill). Dealer looked at it and said it was fine (because that costs them $0). I’ve been dealing with this issue for 8 years!
THIS SOLUTION IS SO EASY YOU CAN DO IT WITH CONSOLE IN PLACE. .. JUST BE CAREFUL DONT PINCH FINGER
yep just did it in 2 minutes and thats because thats how long it took the garage door to open.
@@michaelzock8332 yep, just put my fingers through the brush bristle looking things and you can reach that lever.👌👍
Great idea I’ve had issues and have to get my emergency brake adjusted every couple of years. Don’t even use it just leave it in first gear. But need the brake for an inspection sticker so definitely going to try this myself right through the opening without taking the console off.
I tried pushing that lever back through the brush bristles and it doesn't stay back
Clockspring looks very loose. I managed to tighten the clock spring one turn quite easily by getting a piece of soft flexible reinforcing tie wire, running under the spring, from front and twisting a loop around the hook on the spring. Pulled hook around to the rear & hold with a 4mm rod. Fed wire around front again & pulled around again to hook on lug (with a bit of coaxing with needle-nose pliers & small screwdriver) The wire slip down the side of the spring a few times but persevered. Some sort of thin strip could be inserted down beside the spring & the housing reducing the gap so the wire would not slip off the spring bbb
I'll try that. My brake holds, but I've got it pulled all the way up. It would be nice if it would set lower down.
So I sold my Jeep and bought a new JLU Rubicon. I was worried about reselling it because it was a manual 6-speed. I had spilled a 26-ounce Yeti of coffee down the center console a few months ago and knew I would have to clean that up before a buyer came by. I pulled everything out, washed the carpets and Febrezed them. While they were drying, I cleaned the rest of the solidified coffee off the interior and around the console mounting frame. While I was there, I remembered your post, so I decided to give it a shot. I took the Para-cord I carry in the jeep, looped it around the clock spring, and finally was able to wind it one more time. Brother! That thang is as tight as new! Wish I had done that when I first bought it. BTW, I marketed it for ~$15k. My phone BLEW-UP! I have never been one to take advantage of situations and sold it to this couple where the wife fell in love with it for $13.9, I felt like she would appreciate it as much as I did. It had both tops and 2018 JLU wheels and tires and the original set of wheels and good tires. I think they got a great deal, I really "Loved" that Jeep, maybe more than this new one...
thanks for the video. why do we see everyone taking off the tires, rotors, etc. to adjust inside the drum if this adjustment is as easy as this? i have a 2012 JKU. Are there different adjustments for different JKs?
If your shoes are out of adjustment this will not take up enough slack from what I understand. But this is the main issue with these JK. Ive never seen a set of shoes worn down to the point of needing adjustment. See the comment above for fixing the issue. Or some add a stop bolt to keep it from backing off. I like the method of actually adjusting the spring as stated in the comment above.
Quick and clean, I like this!
