Sionyx nightwave Vs Hikvision 8mp Colorvu cctv camera
I ran both the Sionyx nightwave and a hikvision colorvu 8mp camera to compare the two. Nightwave costs $1,600 with the tax plus you need a supplimentary lead for the back of the Simrad NSS evo 3s screens which is another $40 as the nightwave runs on old fashioned RCA . The hikvision camera which is a low light cctv ip camera, needs an encoder, a P.O.E switch and a monitor to stream HD. All these items are off of Amazon at a cost of $700 so less than half the price. I mounted the hikvision colorvu and the moniter on sea suckers, so i can set it up when i need to use it, it takes leass than 5 minutes. Make your own judgements on which system is best? I have made my choice, the Sionyx Nightwave is up for sale.

I have fitted a Seasucker to the monitor and the camera, i fit the camera to the underside of the T top and the monitor on the console, you can see its placement in the video.
You will need to plug the decorder and the camera into a computer to match the I.P. address's together. Follow the instructions that comes with the decoder to set them up.
Everything on the list runs on 12volt dc so you only need a supply from the boat and you are up and running.

Have done this and we are unable to get it to work? Matched IP addresses 😢
Boateye360 is also an affordable option. These ip cameras will work okayish inshore with light pollution but they won't stand a chance offshore.
Which is what camera
So trying to use my Hikvison camera with a decoder similar to what you have... Did you match the IP of the camera to the decoder or the other way around... When I tried to make a static IP for my camera I broke the ability to log into the settings from a web browser.... An explanation would be helpful to get this working. Thanks. Please provide as much detail as you can.
The Hikvision is a standard IP security camera. A POE injector is one way to power it, but it will also work with 12vDC. Once on your local network, loads of apps, including web browsers, will talk to it. So, your overall price to get an OEM version of the camera setup is probably closer to $200.
Nice comparison. I run my Hikvision directly into my Simrad with only a $40 Ethernet to RJ45 adapter and power it off of 12vdc instead of POE. All in I’m under $250
Could you add a link to this adapter and say a little more how you hooked it up?
Also interested in this too.
If you search for “Simrad Ethernet to RJ45 adapter” you will find the cable. This plugs directly into the simrad unit and then directly to the Camera. Since this is not PoE, you will need to run 12V to the camera power cable. I put a toggle switch in between to turn on and off. After hardware install you just need to setup the IP address on the camera to a static IP that is on the same subnet at the Simrad unit. Then set the Simrad video input IP address to match your camera. Mine works every time I power it on.
@@spencepurduehi there. Just want to ask you question, i have simrad evo3 and want to connect hikivision colorvu camera. Can you explain more please to connect with simrad. Thank you. Can you write your email adress please or any contact
@@cemalbuyuksavas2197 if you want to share your email i will contact you. I just don’t want to post my email here
great video …so many questions…. how would the Hikvision work offshore without the ambient light of the homes and docks (in total darkness)? are all those adapter parts you listed made for a marine environment? could you just connect the hikvision to your MFD? Is the difference in the outputs due to the fact that the monitor screen has better resolution? thanks for your insight
I’ll reply back on the offshore environment after Aug 5. I’ll be taking the hikvision out very early in the morning for a tournament. You can’t hook it up to and mfd because it’s an ip camera. On my setup, I connected it to a small Ethernet router and a raspberry pi. I am using the same monitor here but I hooked all the electronics to my house battery bank so I didn’t have to buy a Poe adapter. My setup comes in a few hundred dollars cheaper and all contained in a harbor freight waterproof box.
Would you consider adding a long range high powered IR illuminator to enhance the hikvision in total darkness like offshore ?...
Hikvisions have IR illuminators or a light in them... Or you can add an IR illuminator.. I'm thinking about doing this over the Sioynx on my boat too
@@SimonBali-e2f I’m gonna see how well it works with just moon and start light first.
@@VeasnaKoeut how did you go offshore with the hikvision ?
Desert dive!
Thats not a low light environment, the Nightwave is throttled back because you're in a high light environment.
That makes no sense. To me, the camera is running with an extra-long exposure to try to get as much light as possible from the scene. Plus, the Hikvision is producing an image over four times the resolution.
@@deabigt You didn't understand what I said.
@@VK6AB- Then explain or better yet show an example where this camera performs better.
@@deabigt You don't understand basic concepts like quantum efficiency relative to wavelength. When you know something about digital or analogue night vision equipment I'll have a discussion. Otherwise I'm just wasting my time for no reason.
@@VK6AB- LOL I have uploaded numerous examples to my channel from various brands, covering many models. I have over 70 cameras set up in a heavily wooded area, with at least half of them capturing images under only stars and moonlight. Some of these cameras even capture meteors in color. See examples at ua-cam.com/video/-2yy0meHjy0/v-deo.html As shown in the video above, the SiOnyx camera is outperformed by cameras available on Amazon for under $100. If there is an environment where the SiOnyx performs better, I’d like to see that video. Using terms like "quantum" in your response just to sound knowledgeable is unnecessary. We're discussing real-world performance, not theory. If you have camera experience, you know that even comparing specifications can be unreliable. Even static shots can conceal issues like ghosting or blurring that occur with motion. For example, ua-cam.com/video/dnF_eAoeAnQ/v-deo.html So, please provide a relevant video; otherwise, your argument lacks credibility.

Subscribed awesome channel bro whats the name of this reef
the ship channel is 50ft deep on goes 15 miles into the gulf the depth in Tampa bay is mostly 15-20 deep 65ft is off shore. 10 miles out is around 35ft deep

It’s a public wreck you can find the numbers online. This wreck is close to the blackthorn wreck also
Pinellas reef too it's on every map
How deep is that area? I am looking for areas around Tampa to free dive for lionfish. Any suggestions? Thanks! Great video!
Hiya if you want to get lionfish in any sort of numbers. You need to go to the pipeline which is around 25 to 35 miles from johns pass. the depth ranges from 85 to 110 feet. you can get them closer on ledges and some wrecks in around 60 to 80ft but so many.
@@imnoaussiediveandfishing ahhh.... that is a shame, I was hoping to find a good place to go after them in shallow.... I am not yet dive certified, so I do a lot of freediving until I get my cert.
