Elden Ring released in 2022 not 2024, and I think it’s pretty funny that you mentioned SOME of the “rules” that dictated whether it’s a game or expansion. “Does it requiere you to own another game to play it?” Let’s see Does Horizon forbidden west REQUIERE you to have Horizon Zero Dawn? No so it’s a sequel, a different game, not an expansion. Does Horizon Burning Shores REQUIERE you to have Horizon Forbidden West to play it? Yes, so it’s an expansion, because it’s expanding the already existing game. Does the last of us part 2 requiere part 1? No so it’s a game Does uncharted 4 requiere uncharted 1 2 and 3? No so it’s a game Does God of war Ragnarok Valhalla require God of war Ragnarok? Yes so it’s a DLC, an expansion. The category is called GAME of the year Hope this helps😘

The game by itself is fine, but as a BioWare fan it was a letdown. This was supposed to be Dragon Ages’s version of return of the king, but instead they chose to soft reboot the series in the middle of the finale so add ignore the majority of what the other games allowed for. And also the ability to choose how your character behaves was also gutted, leaving players to more or less play the story only as a good gooder/gofer. It’s puts the game in a weird spot where the fixed the weak points of a BioWare game, which was usually the combat and graphics, but failed to deliver or what their strength where, diverse narrative options and freedoms.

The game is a 4 at best

I'm sure it's fine as a standalone game, i just wish they didn't drive the overarching dragonage story into the ground with it. The story is good in a bubble, I hear, but they retconned and made some really poor decisions regarding the handling of the lore.

I think it's fine to like the game, but people are comparing it to previous games, and other similar games, and people seem to have valid criticisms. Plus the development of the main character is cringe. 😅

Tbh L take. It's not a stand-alone game you can't even play it unless you play the actual game. Saying "it's a brand new game" is just wrong. If it was it would be so but it's not it's classified as a DLC

Fromsoft junky and loved the ER dlc. It really does feel like it's own game, fr fr😂 but I feel like it is strange for dlcs to be considered for "game" of the year. Wukong deserves goty fr. Either way aint hurting my feelings tho 😁

I think black myth 100% deserves it because that’s an amazing game, but it would be pretty funny if sote wins, and Sony is about to buy fromsoft so there may be no more fromsoft games as good as this dlc for a long time

Elden Ring dlc cant be played without the base game

People are naming so many other games that should’ve been there instead of the Elden ring DLC. But what they don’t understand is that the Elden ring DLC is better than all those FULL GAMES combined. That’s why it’s up there.

I'm on my 4th play through of the dlc. Full fledge game and it deserves to be there. More than some of the nominees

Its not it's own game, big dog. Let me tell you why. If it was its own gane you could just start it up. You gotta beat mohg to play. You gotta play at least 20% to 60% of the base game to start the dlc

First off, yea the dlc is fucking insane. Second, it should have it's OWN. CATEGORY. This is about game of the year, not dlc of the year, not remake, not remaster. Those things should have their own reward and their own category, we're here for goty, let's keep it that way. Third, I absolutely fucking love that Balatro somehow got in, that's insane to me, the game is great but it definitely wasn't on my list of goty, honestly nothing has been this year, just haven't been interested enough in most of the shit that came out this year to really pay attention enough to even know what big games came out this year.

I still think it makes no sense it was here, even if it's long as hell it's still just more of elden ring. That isn't bad, but it's not something that should compete with a completly new game

I got this game for 15 bucks. I was just looking for a chill rpg. Well worth it. I didn’t know anything about one piece. Other then Long Beach Griffey professing it his bible. I know some dragon ball z, Baki the grappler (not the one on Netflix), and trigun aka vash the stampede. But that’s all I dabbled in when it came to anime. So this is actually pretty cool. Just got to chapter 2 and enjoying it thus far.

Its not about whether or not it was good. Its about the fact that there should be separate categories for remakes and DLCs. That way other original games don't have to compete with them. I think it's a perfectly reasonable argument. SotET is amazing so is Elden Ring, but a DLC isn't a game, and the category is called game of the year. Same for remakes. If you think of game awards as incentives for Devs to create something awesome and original then its not a good idea to muddy the waters with things like this.

Facts I'd say its bare minimum 25hrs of gameplay but 40 if you want to do everything you can do and explore a little. The dlc was bigger than half the games that were nominated
