I agree with your points but it feels complicated. While not wearing hijab or burka is punishable in some countries, wearing one in some western countries is banned. Some people say they feel naked without it while others risk life to express their identity. As a cis man I don't know what to say to this. Who do you ally with? Where does freewill end? Could taking a stance hurt either side? One observation I've made about communities within Islam that still practice such regressive methods is that they are isolated from the mainstream. With Iran and Afghanistan and north Africa I would attribute it to western meddling and their support to terrorists/dictators that led to the collapse of their government. The reason I came to this conclusion is because other isolated countries also seem to display similar patterns like N.Korea and Belarus. I don't understand the situation in Malaysia, Azerbaijan or its neighbouring countries or their history maybe the pattern there is different..
