Matt!!!! Is the man
Next to the Pattons he’s really doing shit at the highest level. His greenhouse is awesome too.
I'm in need of your prayers and support. Please keep me in your thoughts as I navigate my health journey.
All my Homies hate happy frog potting soil
In retrospect I think it was the organic fertilizer mix. I’m gonna do some experiments this winter to confirm though. Are you a grower?
@@nicksbigpumpkin8050 ahhh awesome that would be neat. I do not grow any pumpkins, I wish. Maybe someday. But I find great joy watching pumpkin growing videos so thank you for your service sir.
@@nicksbigpumpkin8050nope! Maybe someday. I do find great joy watching giant pumpkin UA-cam videos though. So thank you so much for your service
Nice! i veggie garden for fun and grow cannabis as a living so im aware of matt debacco and all his knowledge! awesome hes into pumpkins too!!!
He lives 15 mins away from me how lucky did I get lol. Thats awesome that you grow for a living. Do you have your own greenhouse or do you grow inside?

🎃!!!!
That’s how I feel literally every moment of every day
I'm praying for a big pumpkin!
Eagerly awaiting the next episode
This was the most heartbreaking …. And then heartwarming video I’ve ever seen. A rollercoaster
I'm learning so much about giant pumpkin growing!
Thanks for another great garden video and looks like your garden is doing great even with all the heat we’re having you’ve done a great job on your garden. Thanks so much for giving us so much inspiration and hope.
Thank you Grandma Sandy. I hope you enjoy future pumpkin videos as well!
So glad you’re back on track man! Please please please keep these videos coming. They’re very fun to watch and I am actually learning a lot and having some things I knew confirmed by you! My first year growing (Big Max) is going well so far and now watching you is motivating me to grow a giant next year! Thank you for the content man, seriously.
Nice man thank you very much for the kind words. If you haven’t already I would go to a local garden center and get a combination pesticide/fungicide cause right around now is when pumpkin diseases appear. If you start applying it now you should have smooth sailing.
@@nicksbigpumpkin8050 that’s a great point. I have sprayed for beetles and diseases once already. Once in a while I do spot some cucumber beetles though even still. One a week at most. Not sure what more I can do about that. Don’t want to make a wrong move now that I have such good growth.
Plants look healthy and ready to run.
Oh they’re runnin doc…
so good. Keep going! I love how dedicated and focused you are on pumpkins (and giant sunflowers). Very inspiring. Cheers from Oregon
Thank you for watching. Oregon is a great place to grow giant pumpkins, you should try it out next year!
the pumpkin genetics are "European in nature" lmao what. Growing on the other side of the patch?
lol that’s good. But yeah they’re a cross of 2 European pumpkins, the 2702 Cutrupi and the 2183 Mendhi.
@@nicksbigpumpkin8050 looks awesome dude
great progress. can't wait to see how big, thick, and juicy these pumpkins can get
Time to up the dose of Vein splitter I suppose
👍🎃
Just crazy that these videos don't already have 10 million views
LOOOOL thank you man. You should check out northeast giant pumpkins, his vids on here and on tiktok get millions of views and he's one of the best growers in the world.
Awesome! Those look like nice plants!
They really are. I’ve gotta get a huge one now to do Ron proud.
It is awesome to see the generosity of others! Steve coming in big with a ton of knowledge and seeds!
The giant pumpkin community is the most open and helpful group of people ever. Thank you for watching I really appreciate it!
we're so back
I’m afraid it’s time to go beast mode…
@@nicksbigpumpkin8050 i can feel it from here already
Ron & Steve... gods amongst men!
This is excellent, best hobby in the world!!! Good luck!
That’s what I want people to feel when they watch my vids. There’s a beauty to it that’s impossible to describe.
Life is full of second chances 🎃🎃
I’m going to do everything in my power to not squander it!
steve's the man you went to the right place
He really is. I’m really lucky I live relatively close to him and Ron.
Holding my breath during the Wallace transplant. Heck yeah, Go Nick Go!
Don’t hold your breath Doc! You’ve gotta inhale deeply cause the roots smell like watermelon!
Easily the best giant pumpkin UA-camr.
I really appreciate that. I hope the videos inspire you to give giant pumpkin growing a go.

Brother if you saw a grub you need to get some imiticloprid asap!! If not your going to have bug issues. Imiticloprid is systemic and will keep your plant sade from most bugs and or grubs!! Merit is what most giant growers use.
Imidacloprid has been applied. This footage is pretty old. Thanks for the info though!
Oh okay so your plants are bigger, you trying to pollinate this week or next?
@@harveycardwell7274next week hopefully!
Nice! Better luck next season Nick!
Thank you!
the fan is also for transpiration. you won't see strong growth if the plants cannot properly move nutrients and water through them from the roots to the leaves too hot for lion's mane to fruit, the soil you have the pumpkins in is FULL of trichoderma, that mushroom bag never stood a chance once you cut it open. Try again, hydroponically this time. more efficient nutrient delivery, less chance of fungus gnats, soil holds onto water waaay too long in a grow tent, if you sterilize the grow tent beforehand and regularly wash things you can totally fruit oyster mushrooms in there.
All very good info that i will note for next year. Thank you for watching.
Buy the diffuser bro. It’s $15 and it’s a better guess. You don’t need heat mats and your soil is way too dry. It’s a fruit made primarily of water…
Yeah it was a learning experience for sure. Next time It’ll go smoother
This seems so overengineered
Yeah its funny how much it takes just to mimic what nature does effortlessly
pretty glad this channel was recommended to me.
I hope you enjoy the rest of the story!
What is the name of this device in 5:45?
Search something like “lab mixer with magnetic stir bar” on Amazon. They’re cheap and very useful.
@@nicksbigpumpkin8050 Thank you!
Bro! 1. Check the specifications and radiation characteristics for this LED board. It should hang way lower (40-50cm above canopy) to match the spectrum of these diods. 2. This PPFD app isnt very accurate. Use professional meter and higher PPFD levels (up to 800) to start the photosynthetic engine! 3. Heating mats: You are heating up the root system! Water tents to evaporate upwards in the substrate, while the plant (leaves) itself should be the evaporation hot spot. Natural substrates usually have a cooling effect which helps the plant taking up nutrient and stay cool on hot summer days. Heating up water changes pH-levels! So dissolved nutrients can't be released to the roots completely at some point. 4. Overwatering a stressed root system is.. anyways... nice try
Thank you for the info. I will keep that in mind for next time.
@@nicksbigpumpkin8050 <3
nitrogen burn is like going through a fever with the immune system of the plant overworking itself, but yeah flushing out the soil is probably the worst mistake, plant burn can bounce back easily if you control its indoor environment, and usually it will grow faster when it does
Thank you for the info Mr. Waffles
I would imagine as long as they make it past the seedling stage alive that they'll grow like normal but probably smaller?
If you ever want to try that "symbiosis" with mushrooms and plants again I can probably send you some grain spawn, liquid culture, or a fruiting block. I kinda dabble in mycology and have started up my grows again because I like eating fresh mushrooms and they're expensive as hell. I think that lions mane wasn't the best choice for the grow room because it really likes cooler areas. An oyster mushroom would be a better choice because they're aggressive growers and seem to get contaminated less often than lions mane.
If everything goes well and I have a bunch of seeds this fall we can work out a trade.
i still have faith in them bro
Thank you. I have a feeling this story isn’t quite over yet.
So my guess is that the fertilizer you added was a bit much especially being that you added all the good fungi and bacteria. The happy frog alone would have been perfect with the biology as well. I use happy frog with biology and my plants are now 13ft long and growing like crazy!! Let me know if you wanna chat. I'm all about helping poeple wrap their heads around growing!!
Wow ok good to know. Yeah in retrospect the fertilizer was overkill. I will try a few strategies over the winter for sure. Are you on Facebook?
No I don't do social media. UA-cam is the closest I get.
Ez way have a pet mold n no need spent money: 1) box and wood chopsticks. 2) cut the chopsticks and put in the box (make sure it is glued) 3) add water to the chopsticks (in some day the mold will grow) Enjoy!
"forget the hippy shit" LOL smart man get that soil dialed in and the plant will respond!
I hope so! I’m only worried about the acidity which will take a while to fix. Also, great videos, I’ve been watching them for a while.
I'll be following your pumpkin endeavors closely, you've got damned good video quality btw. I put in grapes, fruit trees, raspberries and gooseberries on my property this year. I'll also be growing a few pumpkins too, along with the classic veggies. So far the garlic is doing the best. Good luck with your pumpkins, man.
Thank you Dave I really appreciate it. If you have the space (at least 150sqf) you should try growing a giant next year.
I think you’ll surprise yourself, run a hose put it on a timer, bury your nodes, spray for bugs! BOOM!!! 1200lbs
What sort of irrigation system do you use? I’m pretty conflicted on what to do.
I use a chapin hydrofeed injector and mix a 32oz concentration of fertilizer, it’s hooked to the spigot on side of the house with a melnor timer set to go off at four customized times per day, thru melnor adjustable spike sprinklers. It’s cheap but reliable. I only have room to grow one per year bout 700sqft. 1275 pb, I think you can smash that!!! Good luck and grow big!
love this!
Maybe use a cover crop of clover, that way all the nutrients stay in the soil doesn't get blown away or baked by the Sun. And bonus points if you choose to cut the cover back far enough that it dies you get all the nitrogen that is stored in the nodules of the roots. And possibly for next year pumpkin, you would start your own compost pile. I find the municipal compost to be made of mostly wood. At least in my area. So I feel like it's only half as good as it could be. Personally I get a truckload of the stuff once a year during the free compost events, take that compost and use it as the Browns or carbon source for my compost pile. That way all my nitrogen food scraps can have a balance of carbon to compost into. That way everything is rich in bug and Worm poop. My first giant pumpkin was last year, it was about 60 lb. Because one Vine snuck off behind a bush next to a fence and had two other 50 lb pumpkin just nursing on it. So I got about 150 lb potential out of impulse purchase of seeds. Hopefully this year I can get one Giant one.
I'm feeling 800 lbs this year! Nothing can stop you!
Getting your soil right. My money says you are going to grow a good fruit Nick.
Yes Sir! As long as the weather is good and i can avoid disease/disaster.
Man, I can’t tell you how happy I am that you’re making a series this year again. You came back after a small defeat last year which is something you should totally be proud of! I applaud you for that huge. This will be my first year I attempt growing pumpkins, just big max, nothing crazy but your tips and knowledge I think is going to help me a lot! Thanks again from a fellow New Englander! Adam, from western MA!
Thank you so much! One of the best growers in the country actually lives in western Mass. He goes by Northeast Giant Pumpkins on UA-cam. Check out his longer videos if you want to see a real pro do it.
