The reason it was taught to me as the Jeff Mitchell sweep is because the person that taught, it did not know What it was called so we just called it after him.

Thank you dad and son 😇
Aa a fellow blind/vi BJJ/judo practitioner, would you share if your sight loss is total/partial and how it happened?
@@visionpiping1048 I am completely blind so zero usable vision. I went blind, January 2015 due to a car accident.
The opponent does not have to agree to starting at the grips. I see this in judo, and the blind/vi judoka just deal with it.
Thanks you, both are charismatic. 💜
Good audio description

I’m blind and just had my first tournament. I got 2 silver medals, and won a match. I cried my eyes out because it was so validating!
@@kaylacopass96 that is awesome! Definitely show those off. You put in the work and you deserve the outcome. I am myself in training for a competition, possibly two in November in Michigan. Where do you train at?
@@BlindBrazilianjiujitsu I’ve trained for 8 months at New World Defense and Fitness in Fort Myers, FL.
@@kaylacopass96 definitely keep putting in the hard work, I train at a small gym in northern Michigan called flesh is stronger. Maybe we’ll cross paths one day not sure if you’re more into gi or no gi. I myself am a gi competitor and if everything goes the way I hope it does. I will be competing in master worlds IBJJF next year out in Vegas

I am only in my second month, but I have been lucky. Because I depend on rides, I had only one choice of gym which is only about 5 miles away. Once I explained to the owner, be arranged a one on one lesson. Then he told the person that was going to be my normal instructor about my lack of vision and he has been great about it. I go on Monday and Friday at 11 a.m. Almost more importantly, my fellow students have been so supportive. If rolling I just start on our knees, and have hand contact- then we roll from there. The other people in the class are pretty important to me for their generosity. The main thing I realized at 57 years old is that not being able to see is the least of your worries! There’s so much to learn, it has been wonderful.

it was terrifying to go in for the first time, but people are so welcoming.
I 100% agree with you. Sorry I didn’t get back to you sooner. Been dealing with some personal issues. But I’m back now.
cool. keep going
I am looking forward to seeing more videos. I have about a 3% field of vision left and am in my second week of BJJ. I am 57 and it surprised me that not being able to see is the least of my worries in class. I will check out Mayhem on the Mat.
Definitely don’t let your vision stop you, I am completely blind and don’t let it stop me. Don’t let your age stop you either, at my last gym. My favorite training partner was 61 years old. I’ll also throw in my link here for mayhem on the mat for you. mayhemonthemat.com/?ref=RYANVANDERCOOK
