Amtrak Carolinian in Raleigh (Crew Change) with NS Freight
Переглядів 9 тис.10 років тому
Was lucky enough to catch a Norfolk Southern while waiting for the Carolinian.
the way they turn the train around sucks in all honesty.slow and boring.
Not sure about all this.
VIA Rail Canada's Venture sets now have to stop at crossings to let autos pass as there are reports they may not activate gradr crossing signals.
More then a year later, ONLY Amtrak are having these issues, everyone else who has the Siemens Chargers reported little to no problems.
And the f35 lost to its replacment the f18 superhornet lost to its replacment the gerald r ford lost to its replacment the Amtrack genies was unreliable compared to the diesle engines of the 40s. the horse proved more reliable to the steam locomotive and the gun lost to spears and bows. Technology may change but people who criticize it sure don't
*I know this might be late news but after the testing in the video whenever this was taken the California EMD has returned home and is in service still!*
Somebody needs to call GE...
Teething troubles are nothing new when a completely new product is finally put into revenue service even after years of testing, the true test of reliability only becomes known when the equipment is released to the public. Plumbing issues are nothing new on northern routes where it gets COLD! the Empire Builder is also plagued by frozen plumbing during the winter among other cold related equipment concerns, and Superliners have been in service for decades! properly correcting Teething "Bugs" can take several years to design revised components that can handle the now known issues and production launched so the new parts can be installed during normal servicing. broken Handrails are commonly the result of people trying to hang themselves off it while boarding or disembarking thus throwing their whole body weight onto the connections. this is a simple fix of replacing the current connection with a stronger reinforced one and heavier bolts to attach it to the carbody. of course, getting the car shopped to repair it takes time as there are only so many work bays to fit them into alongside other equipment. ultimately it boils down to funding in order to make things happen. people need to bear down on their elected representatives and congress to stop pussyfooting around and give Amtrak the funding it needs to not only properly repair and maintain their existing fleets, but also to order newer equipment that meets current transportation standards in sufficient quantity to phase out and retire outdated and obsolete rolling stock where parts have become scarce to locate to keep them running.
I’m curious to see how the VIA Chargers will hold up.
Caltrain's about to roll out the new Stadlers and everything I've been hearing about them has been brilliant. They also look awesome. Wonder why Amtrak doesn't talk to them?
Very Good & TY 👍
. 4:24 Thankful for the 《Pause》Button 😅
Hi I’m in Canada and often use the new (via) venture trainsets. We have many breakdowns of chargers like June 13 2 Montreal Toronto chargers broke down same day. Perhaps these trainsets are not built for harsher North American climate conditions
I thought Metra was crazy for commissioning the SD70MACHs but now I see there was a method to the madness. They were proven locomotives optimized for American railroads. Now Metra doesn’t have to deal with all the problems that the Siemens Charger has. The MACHs work just as well as the freight trains that use the same tracks.
Until you realize that the Machs are more likely to derail than a charger, and considering that the Chargers are getting improved as more get on the rails.
It’s the quick mass production. The rule is Fast, Quality or Cheap but you can only pick two.
Amtrak should have split the locomotive order between Siemens and Progress Rail (former EMD). Doing this to add more F125 Locomotives. It seems GE and EMD do not want to make passenger locomotives.
If I recall, the F125 had more problems than the Chargers due to their prime movers.
10:00 thats weird.. I thought trains were supposed to dim or completely shut off their lights when passing an oncoming train going in the opposite direction
Hey! I just found your channel and I wanna say, this video was amazing. Sub earned :)
GE should make a T4 P42. Amtrak already knows how well the P42 does so this could be the answer. And yes I know that GE is now part of wabtech
If they made a passenger version of the GEVO. I wonder what that would look like
7:19 you mentioned weight restrictions being the reason go was forced to use its EMD locos but to me this doesn`t make sense wouldn`t freight rolling stock end up being several times heavier than what go transit would be using?
European equipment is to fragile for American rails.
Is Amtrak retiring any locomotives in 2024?
I really wished Amtrak would have rebuilt the P42s like UP has been doing with its older GEs. I haven’t been very pleased with these Siemens locomotives at all, they are plagued with mechanical issues, and it isn’t just in cold weather. I joke that I run more freight locomotives now than when I was running freight. The chargers load fast, and their cruise control is nice, but that’s about it.
It probably not worth it.
@@gamerfan8445 probably right. Hopefully they don’t sell or scrap the 42s too quickly. Tonight my Chargers were randomly dropping their load or throwing up mysterious alarms that would go away.
Metra Chicago’s commuter rail has only emd locomotives including. F40’2, F40’3, F59PHI, MP36, F59PHI and as recent as November 2023 the SD70MACH. Metra will not buy Amtrak’s retiring P42. As long as Metra continues to operate the emd locomotives they aren’t going away anytime soon.
Only thing I gotta say is that you really gotta turn your voice up..
Ultimately the problem is that the US let their rail manufacturing industry die. The American rail system is starkly different from the European and Chinese systems Siemens typically manufactures for. This means that while it looks simple to slap a European train on American tracks, there is an incredible amount of modifications that have to be made on the design and construction of these units. Due to the loss of domestic manufacturers like Budd, the St. Louis car company, EMD and others, instead of getting a train made for the nuances US market with the expertise built up over decades of manufacturing, you need to overhaul the design of an train from a company that has no expertise on the system their trains are expected to operate.
They should've gone with EMD.
Yeah, sure we won't end up the same way as the chargers.
This train went through a 19 hour delay last year charger had some issues sick or hurt passenger that’s why I’m never taking Amtrak
What kind of device might our Cali f59's get turned into if their new home becomes the midwest, NPCU's? If so, this is the last place I would've foreseen them living out rest of their lives after takeover by the chargers. It'd be so wierd to have to go to the Midwest to see my old local commuter power.
EMD needs to make a comeback
Newer isn't always better.
Didn't have axle count problems with relay logic.
6:45 Newer doesn't always mean better.
4:11 award winning shot I’d say, excellent video
What was 2007 doing on that Hiawatha
7:02 - GO Transit legit stop running trains beyond Kitchener to London last month. No idea why, but prob because of low patronage or something. Anyway, nice video mate. Greetings from 🇦🇺
I know some will criticize Amtrak for going with Siemens and not sticking with EMD and GE. I highly doubt they’ll ever bounce back into the Passenger Rail Market since they don't see Passenger Rail as profitable as Freight Rail.
The old locos will be around for another 10 years. Too many issues with the Chargers and doing long haul routes.
Those cars are not in service. Just being tested. The first org to get in service cars from Siemens is WSDOT Cascades, due 2027, maybe sooner. But, they first need to past testing in Pueblo, CO. Siemens has an issue with designing equipment for being used on freight tracks. Most tracks in the US is owned by a freight rail company. Freight tracks are built differently than high-speed rail tracks are.
Something similar happened to the HHP-8s. Whenever they broke, AEM-7s would substitute it.
wait huh? you said the Siemens are being replaced by older locomotives?
The Chargers don’t need those huge “X” Vents on the side.
Actually they do
@@gamerfan8445 Those Vents allow rain, snow and hail to get inside the engine compartment and cause all kinds of problems. Tell me how that's a good thing???
@anthonyangelici2963 Simple it not, but they largely require them to have them due to emissions laws.
the USA can't build 💩 anymore , every time antrak buys new equipment it's always late getting into service because some foreign country can't get it going
Meh. Bring back the F40s. They'll get the job done. 😊
Bruh
SMH Being an Amtrak employ I would suggest actually knowing what you are talking about, rather than saying what you think you know. Just a suggestion is all.
An electric engine design for a diesel electric locomotive, that just proves whats wrong with Siemens.
Living down in the US I always for that Amtrak connects all the way into Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver! Love this video, it's very soothing
As a Michigander it's the kind of thing I never thought about until moving to Toronto! Thanks a bunch!
Great video! Never thought I'd watch an hour long video of trains 😂
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it! And thanks for getting sucked into my video in its entirety, haha =)
What an epic review of action in and around TO ! Brilliant work ! Especially loved to pair of GOT trains racing parallel past Sunnyside. Then around 23 min you grabbed some street action set off the GOT crossing a bridge; no idea where that was, but it was great. Nice clip pf the vintage yard power there at Aldershot. James.
Thanks so much James! =) Glad you enjoyed it. The bridge shot with street action was taken in Guelph.
