I was listening to this in the background while working on a photo and I hear ""whites on one side and blacks on the other"
right, tonal values. Did you think I was speaking about something other than lights or darks?
Nice work. Interesting restoration. I use the Solid Color Fill adjustment layer, It makes it easier to adjust the colour on the fly. Gradient Map is great for recolouring too.
I use that as well. In fact, there are several techniques I didn't go into simply because there isn't time to cover every one. I felt these would be the quickest!
Thank you very good video
excellent video. Just what I needed! thanks...
Hi, that’s a great and useful video. I am working on a long term project to restore my family's large photo archive. Some of the photos were printed really small, like 2 inches by 3 inches. Would you recommend re-photographing the original photos at high resolution to help with the restoration or doesn’t that work? And do you have any tips for photographing photographs? TIA 🙂
I just left a like so I can save this video. Simple yet effective.
Wow, this is so helpful! Thank you so much. 🙏👍
Glad you enjoyed it Phiron!
I am curious do you have any tips for removing the texture from the old pearl photo paper, which comes with flatbed scanning and reflections it creates. As it does not create a repetitive pattern, the plugins for pattern suppression doesn't really work, and with using the filters for dust scratches, noise etc. I lose a lot of detail.
Hi Laura, that's a great observation. I haven't run into that problem yet. Do you have an example you can email me so I can check it out and visually see what you're referring to? Thanks! You can email me at scuroprof@gmail.com
Hello, I just subscribed to your youtube channel, thank you very much for this tuto, I have seen many other tutorials on the Dodge & Burn, and I did not understand what to do, I knew the technique, but how to apply it was something else, and I finally understood, with the image, or, you lighten, and the zones that you add you of the shade, without this drawing, it was impossible for me to understand, for the simple and good reason, that I never practised the drawing or the painting, and even less studies like make-up artists. thank you for your work. Kind Regards
Loving the channel. You deserve more subs! Why aren’t you using Promosm?!? Lot’s of channels are using it to promote their videos.
I'm surprises you didn't make a copy of your background layer before you make all those changes... Saves a lot of trouble.. But good job with the repair..
Excellent observation! And yes, that's probably the best practice - although sometimes I get excited about a project and forget. I normally do make copies of my background layers, in addition to using the history brush or save multiple versions at different stages. In this tutorial I totally forgot!
I thought I was going to learn how to make soup...
Hahaha I'm making a video about that soon! :)
you all prolly dont care but does someone know a way to log back into an instagram account? I somehow lost my login password. I love any tips you can give me
@Frank Orlando instablaster :)
This is really cool! I didn’t realize this could even be done.
Thank you!!
@@PhoFessor Can you make a review video for the cinematic pictures and the grading for this movie. " The Lady Of heaven" 2M views at trailer
@@samr_-zi6zm Wow, just watched the trailer! Absolutely stunning coloring. I noticed several different color palettes in the trailer: there is a teal blue one for the early present day fight scenes, then there is a warm tone for the battles on the sands, another one for the scenes with Fatima and another with the young boys that seem more contemporary. Which set would you like me to do? Or, if you can upload a screenshot, I can more easily see what you're after.
Will you do a video on restoring an old color photo? Include how to get rid of weird color cast. Thank.
Ah, interesting idea Norma! I'll look into that. What kind of color cast are you referring to? Like discoloration on an old color photo?
@@PhoFessor I don't know about Norma, but I'm trying to restore old color poloroids from the 60s and 70s that are fading away. Some also have what I can only describe as a chemical or color streaking into the image. Thanks!
This is so genuis thank you so much !:)
Thank you Jay!! Let me know if you'd like to hear about anything else!
@Maura Kabala It is a little labor intensive and probably not meant for a multiple image job but it's great when you're working on one piece. :)
most underrated channel, you got a subscriber <3
Thank you kind sir! Let me know if you have any suggestions for tutorials you'd like to see!
Amazing technique using curves, keep making tutorials like this. 👏
Easiest and best tutorial to learn dodge and burn. Thanks for the video!
I'm glad it helped John :)
Shadow Guide. lol Nice tutorial, real useful :)

Glad you enjoyed it! Let me know if there's anything else you'd like to see!
you might want to look at Affinity photo...it has everything photoshop has and most of Affiniys hot keys are the same...but Affinity is only a one time payment of $50.00
I own Affinity photo, absolutely love it! I helped beta test it years ago.
Nice
Thanks!
Your explanation was very helpful . It's nice way you guided us .
thank you very much Cleret! Let me know if there's anything else you'd like to see!

You're so welcome!!
This looks like an easy way to start with contouring. I’ll have to give this a try
Thank you! If you have any other suggestions for videos, or things you'd like to try, just let me know!
This is a great explanation of contouring. Thanks a lot!!!!
You're so welcome Leon! I'd love to see some of your work and maybe how you've applied this tutorial.
Could you do a tutorial on how to deal with fly away hairs in post? I have not found a good technique and they are really bugging me.
absolutely, I'll put something up this next week!
Olá, sou brasileira e amei o seu trabalho!!😍 Não entendo inglês kk, mas pelos passo a passo pude compreender um pouco!

Great content. Useful information that is delivered in an easy to understand way. Thanks. If you were to do a full edit on this image, freq separation, dodge/burn, color grade etc..approximately how long would that take you?
Thanks Ed! Do you use a similar process when you edit? It's so great hearing other techniques from others because they broaden my education. The next couple of episodes will be with the same image, burning and dodging and makeup and then an episode on color grading.
Well, this subject's skin was pretty flawless. I'd say the dodge and burn 3-5 mins, color grade 3-5 mins and frequency sep would depend on skin quality. I've spent anywhere from a couple of minutes to probably 25 minutes on that!
