Just your average bad player at Starcraft that loves UMS maps! I want to highlight great UMS maps that have been made by many great map makers over the years. Hopefully these videos can serve as walkthroughs for certain maps, or a way to find maps, or a way to know what a map is like before playing it, the way same why I relied on random youtube videos of playthroughs of specific maps for tips/strategies.

In general, I would put this campaign on the more difficult side. For most people that play this campaign, I recommend using saves. There are far too many instances where something you had no idea of knowing can just end your game. I try not to use saves for the sake of the gameplay so I had to restart missions several times and frankly speaking, it is not fun to lose 20 minutes of progress because a torrasque just randomly appears in one path, or an enemy ambush spawns near you, etc.
Commentary:
Survival mission. I think this mission is too easy, the AI/difficulty of AI should be swapped with the AI from mission 4 ZERGS, considering all you have to do is survive. I think if I play better I could clear both zerg bases.

I still have a massive backlog of your videos to get through, but this holds the current record for "longest game time" AND "longest in-depth description" AND "most translated text." Holy cow! 🤯 Shaping up to be a banger 🥳
I'll be interested to see your playthrough of mission 14 lol. You're better than I am, but I had a rough time with it.
This mission was exceptionally frustrating for me lol. Just getting nuked like 50 times in the first 5 minutes is a bit much, but I realized that as long as the tanks are in front of everything else, the ghosts will always walk into range before successfully attempting to nuke. If you have a building or another unit in front of the tank, the ghost will have range to nuke, but they can't with the tanks in front.
This was the toughest mission so far for me too, the AI will always Nuke on a target and never on the ground so that's a good strategy to limit what nukes can do. Gas was the limiting factor for me this mission so I opted to play safer with my tanks.

I just finished this campaign. It's overall quite good, but I definitely have some criticisms. I think they're similar to what this guy is saying in the comments. One thing he mentions that I strongly agree with is units appearing randomly is frustrating. The player should be able to look at the production facilities and the objectives and have a pretty good idea of what units they might face. When a bunch of stuff just appears randomly on the map, that's quite frustrating for the player. ie: mission 14 I think? Is insane. I killed the protoss in the top left, expanded there, and then randomly a clump of CHIMERAs just appeared on top of the nexus lol. I beat it and it's fun, but the difficulty is a bit inconsistent. The maps that are designed around microing a small number of units are the most fun IMO and the most well balanced. The maps where you macro can be very very easy (like this one) or insanely difficult, and kind of cheesy/unfair like mission 10 and 14. Overall it's fun and well made, but I would avoid mechanics where units spawn from nowhere without warning.
@@bleepbloop6234 Thanks for playing it all :) Using triggers is my best option, this is not a mod. I would like to put my own production AI on all the enemies but it's not possible. Maybe in 30 years someone will make my campaign into a mod xd

@@nexot2554 Triggers aren't the issue though. In the example I gave, mission 14, the trigger for the CHIMERA spawn seems to be linked to the protoss being totally eliminated from the map, rather than the destruction of a particular building. If I go to the spawn point and destroy the nexus then build my own nexus on the empty base, the trigger should be deactivated so that 20 hero units don't appear inside of my base. The Torrasque doesn't have the same problem though. If I destroy the mutated hatchery, the Torrasque stops spawning. So why not use the same solution for ALL hero unit production? You have a solution, and you've implemented it, just not consistently. Make the units spawn out of the warpgate in the top right of the map, and then put them on an attack path, or set the trigger to the destruction of a particular building which is well protected. Do not make units pop up on a random spot on the map, particularly inside of a mineral line that the player is likely to expand to.
That is CLEAN gameplay and idk why. I suck at the game.

This is one of my favorite UMS maps! Uelter made a masterpiece! This map actually spawned an entire series of maps (like 50+) and is considered it's own genre in the Korean UMS scene.

I think everything you've advanced is great :D but there are maps that require you to activate the trigger "pause the game" for the cinematics to work correctly, it won't happen if you continue playing in Multiplayer :(
Oh well guess we get to see how the cutscenes bug out then, I think in this mission it actually made the last part harder lol.

This is definitely on the more silly side and probably made to be more of a proof of concept with the custom graphics.
I was planning to play original Mercenaries some day and it's nice to see you showing a modified, upgraded version of it. You guys actually aren't brain damaged but brave ones for playing on insane!
Ultraviolet also made a Mercenaries III that might be worth checking out!
La única diferencia de la actual versión con la vieja versión, es que esta desactivado la producción de Guardianes. Solo yo pude completar la vieja version. Mi amigos testers me recomendaron que nerf el mapa, debido a que no mucha gente puede pasarla 😅
The AI is much weaker with the guardians missing, I think it messes with their attack pattern or something. They kept sending mutalisks to die one by one in the updated version, so even though AI spend more money overall it was easier. I don't think I saw a single ultralisk either., the attack script must get stuck by trying to to do a guardian attack but being unable to do so. Also RNG on the attack paths make a huge difference, good thing you nerf the map otherwise would not be fun to play. I tried to play this older version normally but had too little gas to get enough high templar/dragoons, and got overrun by the ultralisks + hydra wave after losing too many cannons to guardians so I just figured out this easier cheese strategy, but turns out AI spamming hydralisk and sitting at home is more difficult than AI suicidng only mutalisk one by one.

Saw a comment on DK's playthrough where someone said mission 4 was impossible and turns out he was talking about the older version of the map. In a sense, he is right, the older version is much more difficult compared to the most recent version due to the presence of guardians, but the mission is still doable. If you rush the spires right away the AI takes a long time to get back to get to mutalisks. The AI just build a ton of hydralisks instead but hydralisks that sit in their base is easier to deal with than guardians attacking from all angles.

Ah okay good to know. I looked at triggers and I think what happened was the since the data disc trigger is before the khaydarin, but in my game Khaydarin was ahead, when the probe was removed it removed the probe carrying the khaydarin and not data disc since triggers impact units left to right, and that must have reset the powerup back to it's original location.
These presumably KR-built RPG's look so well made. A boss rush mode?! That's awesome

I was also offered by Nexo to play this campaign, might start somewhere next month, super crazy busy week. Even from start it turns out to be challenging and not simply a cakewalk that you can expect from most of campaigns. From what I understand you opted to explore as much as possible, that's nice of you and it will help for polishing if there is a need.
This is a hard campaign, I find some of the missions much harder than pocho's hard campaign map, you'll want to take your time, and maybe even check out the map ahead of time. I don't care much for no build missions but I am looking forward to see how you tackle some of the later macro missions.
Thanks for your comment. In general I use different colors for hero units as protagonists and antagonists. Hero units that are the color of your army (in this case the goliaths and Hero wraiths) are simply stronger variant units or "disposable heroes". I really liked how you defended yourself against Olympus. Regarding the terrain, when I was a child I did this campaign, as an adult I remade a lot of maps to take is seriously hahaha
Ah okay, so I should assume missions with the lazy terrain was stuff you made when you were younger, and if the terrain is better you updated the map or made it later, good to know. I still think elite variants should be different colored unless all units are modified, because it's not clear and i ended up taking more damage than I could've because I only send a few units to deal with it thinking those were regular goliaths or wraiths, and I really don't like having the click on every unit to check if it's the hero variant or not. I wasn't expecting Olympus so I had no anti air, good thing Kerrigan had lockdown to buy me some time.

Cool, good map, impressive you made this without scmdraft. I like the twist at the midpoint, but I think it would've been better to use map revealers and have all the defense spawn in at once on the way back to the beacon, rather than have enemy spawn in when Duke walks over a certain area. You can see Jim Raynor just ran all the way to the beacon because there was no enemy, then like 10 seconds later when Duke goes to an area Jim Raynor just runs past the enemy units just spawn in, pretty jarring experience. Also I don't think there was enough time to set up a defense, not clear if bringing duke close to the bottom triggers their counter attack earlier, but if you spend a lot of troops taking out the Icarus base and don't have many units left over, I don't think a player can set up a defense and have a force to escort Duke safely in time. So I think it would be better if you reveal the enemy has set up defenses in the way back and then put a timer indicating when the enemy counter attack begins.

My salutations! I can say that you've aced Hard Mode campaign by not only going for objectives, but fully clearing out all maps in under 1 hour. Impressive job! However the journey isn't over yet! I'll be honored if you will try out the modified version of this campaign that I'll soon tease on my channel - it's nothing extraordinary but you might like it. It's still work on progress and I might need your input ^^.

Not gonna lie, seeing a map about Afghanistan wasn't something I thought to come across. Not an overly complex and fun looking RPG. This only prooves that if you have passion and patience, you can basically create anything. I still can't figure out which side we play: the good guys, kinda? Lol.
We play as the NRF which fought against the Taliban, so most people would consider the player side as the good guys. This is a simple map even with all the EUD changes, so it feels like a modern version of one of the old defense/survival style UMS maps you'd play in the past.

By the way, if you type 'spy' in chat, it will find the location of the queen that is at rest. Also, if you type 'thank you' when Goryeo gives you gas or minerals, it will give you 5 more gas. In the case of Goryeo players, if you type 'paddler' or 'wagon', you can find the resting unit.

This one looked even easier than original lol. Feels like all micro missions are cakewalk because of how strong heroes are, in this case Raynor is just invulnerable thanks to medics. The only one that felt challenging was Battle of Braxis so far. Wonder if Patriot's Blood is also gonna be sweep, knowing it's also inside installation I guess so. Not so much you can do to make them super interesting but heroes need to be tuned down or like you said, it's simple A move map.
You're right, most of the non macro ones are just too easy, I prefer the macro gamestyle anyways so these were just done for completionist sake. I don't recall anything special about patriot's blood so your hunch is probably right. Funny how battle of braxis is the most challening, in reversed it was super interesting too, probably something about it not being in installation tileset so air units/buildlings allow for more challenges.

Are there other 'running' maps like this?
I remember there being a good amount of 'running' maps but they were a LOT more basic (like running with observer). I played a couple like back in like 2007 so I don't have them anymore and don't fully remember the name. This def best running map though haha. Yes, first time I beat the time with over 5 minutes remaining to get the bonus map, but I wanted to full clear map so retried to see if I could do it.

I remember when I was testing this map, and this was one of the hardest ones for me to win, mostly because the map has two insane AI opponents (white Terran, orange Zerg). If you take too long to attack them, they become quite troublesome, especially the white Terran, mostly because it starts using nuclear missiles and launching attack waves with battlecruisers equipped with Yamato Cannon. That's why I eventually decided to add the option to generate 12 hero guardians. After several failed attempts to win, breaking through the blue Terran's defenses proved very challenging due to the sheer number of buildings it has for producing units. My strategy to win was to use the high ground behind the blue Terran's base and start building sunken colonies and spore colonies alongside the guardians. In your gameplay of this mission, you make it look easier than I remember when I played it, mostly because you're really skilled. GG
Thank you for the kind words, the hero guards definitely make pushing easier, mission 6 zerg exp didn't have any guard heroes and I was confused lol, made pushing more challenging. And hope you're doing well, I never even realized you were the one that made those coop campaign maps back when we played together lol. Thanks for not doing a lazy insane AI edit and for encouraging macro gameplay.

Kerrigan's New Gettysburg PTSD fits better for map name. Does in-game timer counts because you clearly survived more than that but still ended in draw, or was that because your last building got destroyed?
It's a limitation of starcraft maps, if the map is finished too early (I think within the first 2 minutes?) it will always end in a draw even with a victory trigger. Map goal is to have the HQ survive, it's actually quite tough and this was done after many attempts. I want the videos searchable by the name of the map and I'm my goal is to archive play throughs/walkthroughs of different UMS maps rather than grow the channel or even make a good viewing experience (I legitimately don't expect anyone to watch an entire video, especially the hour long ones, only skim to find relevant parts or get an idea of what the map is like) so I haven't really bothered with more catchy titles or even any basic editing. Most Korean maps get direct translation unless it fits into a specific genre (e.g. there is an entire category of maps from Korea called 마린키우기 or marine raising as a direct translation, but it is better known as Marine Special Forces outside of Korea). There is a severe lack of UMS map recordings outside of Koreans and while the community of UMS enjoyers is small I still want that information available for someone out there if they ever need it. Many times we play a UMS map and get stuck but some random Korean dude recorded a playthrough so we were able to watch the relevant part and get past the part we were stuck on (or find out the map has some overpowered hidden cheat and you need that to win....) Also I thought about recording with commentary but I realized my mic sucks, playing while commenting is actually more difficult than people give credit for, and I'm sure people don't want to hear my bad voice anyways. It takes skill and training to do it well!

Yeah I think it happens when you reach 10 units and run out of upgrade options, leaving only armor and weapon as the only options, so i deliberately didn't finish upgrading the last unit. I tried to look at triggers but the EUD stuff was too confusing so I couldn't figure out how to fix it.

@@hamsterkoster Yes, it's in English, I've resumed the continuation of my campaign. I still need to finish editing two Protoss maps and I'll continue with the Zerg campaign. :D There are a lot of maps to make, but there is already enough to keep you entertained.

You murdered this map! When I first time played this series I didn't have a specific aim to clear each map but wanted to attempt if it's possible and after seeing lurkers noped out, thought it's not possible but you proved me wrong. Interesting that this is the only map I haven't cleared fully in series, now I'm jealous and wanna do a rerun hahaha!
You should retry when you get the chance, I think comsat is enabled for the mission but you can definitely just manipulate the lurker, AI is really bad with lurkers.
Maps with EUD?
Yes, actually this map isn't protected at all so it looks like all the EUD was done manually, you can actually just open the map and look at the triggers. I think haff the RPG maps I've put on this channel use EUD, super cool tech that really expands what is possible in starcraft.
