Given the PSR rules, Newcastle do not have a bottomless pit of money to spend. They need a 2nd striker to support Isak and probs a young defender to replace Schaar in the long run. I don't think they would put out big money for a 17 yr old untried in the Prem given other priorities.

I think Rigg to Newcastle is drummed up media bullshit simply because he's a boyhood Newcastle fan - and he genuinely is because I saw a pic on his instagram of him wearing a toon top but he took it down, and I've also seen another pic of him as kid in a toon hoodie outside St James'...So again the media pick up on this, they put 2 and 2 together and make 5. As for the price - no player at Championship level is worth anywhere near the region of £30M. Bruno Guimaraes is one of the best midfielders in Europe and was signed for around £35M so how on gods earth is a 17 year old in the Championship valued only few mill less than that. I'd say stick a £30M price tag on Rigg just to price him out of any moves because nobody will buy a 17 year old in the Championship for that much. It'll make much more sense for Rigg to stay at Sunderland for now as he's guaranteed to play week in week out which he needs, but if Newcastle were genuinely interested (which I don't think they are) and he went there he'll get nowhere near their 1st team, will probably play the odd cup game and play most of the time with the U21s. I just don't think the grass would be greener playing there at this moment in time.

A pro footballer's career can end at any time due to injury so can't blame them for grabbing the best deal on the table at any time What we would take for him is the interesting number.
