Nori Wai # 9 moving the fences
Last week the goats ran out of feed on Friday afternoon about 4and a couple escaped onto the road. We put them back at 6 and prepared the new range on Saturday morning. They are doing an amazing job clearing the waterfront.

Coppicing Eucalypts Strathalbyn
Переглядів 25Місяць тому
I have been concerned about tall Eucalypts creating long shaded areas in winter on pastures from the Urrbrae East/west shelterbelts across the farm. Their canopies are so high they provide no shelter from harsh winds on wintery nights and their roots suck water from the ground leaving pastures shaded and dry. Coppicing is simply cutting the tree 400mm from the base and multiple new branches cre...
Billy the kid
Переглядів 652 місяці тому
Four weeks ago one of my very young Rangeland does gave birth to, and immediately abandoned, this little male kid that we have opted to bottle feed. We got dairy cow colostrum from a neighbour immediately and have been feeding goat milk powder "little and often" ie 6 feeds of 150mm per day at 3 hour intervals ever since. Students have been asking for a video, so here it is
Nori Wai 8 More reed destruction
Переглядів 992 місяці тому
This demonstrates the power of Feral goats to change a neglected and untidy landscape in really quick time and at minimal cost. This shoreline will be easy for native turtles and other birds and animals to access the shore line to perform their natural functions. 6 hours is plenty of time to alter the vegetation. Nori Wai #7 Reed destruction

This is the third section we have grazed but it was dense reeds, so dense that just clearing a path to put the electric fence in took all day, yet the goats have knocked it down in a similar period of time. This is the wonder of Rangeland Goats and their indiscriminate grazing behaviour. This video was made with Clipchamp
Nori Wai 6 rotational grazing
Переглядів 432 місяці тому
In this video I look at how Rangeland Goats which are indiscriminate grazers are cleaning up the waterfront on our Mannum property. They have revealed the Metters Windmill that has been completely covered by vegetation. It is amazing how they eat everything and convert it to food meat) and fertilise the area. I am following up by casting lucerne seed into the area ploughed by their little hoove...
Nori Wai 5 The Rangeland Goat breeding upgrade plan explained
Переглядів 1143 місяці тому
This video is designed to show why I want tocross my Rangeland Does to a Boar buck in the first instance to gain size and meat quality. I realise this will lose some of the indiscriminate grazing (eat weeds ) so the resulting first cross does will be bred to Kalahari Red Bucks and I will turn the herd Red over time. This is just step 1.
Nori Wai 4 introducing goats

On Friday 6th April 2024 we travelled to hawker to collect 14 Rangeland does for our foundation herd of indiscriminate grazing goats. The plan is that we can clean up undesireable vegetation using natural process with goats and Dorper sheep. This follows their release into our electric fence compound at the waterfront and how they adapt to their new surrounds This video was made with Clipchamp
Entrance to the Waterfront at Nori Wai
Переглядів 363 місяці тому
I spent this 3rd weekend in March installing a safe and secure entrance to our waterfront. previously a chain across the road way was dangerous and kept no one out. This fence and entrance is now hopefully stock proof. Thanks to Darren, Henry and Alec because my broken ribs restricted my contribution considerably This video was made with Clipchamp
Urrbrae Intersection and unfinished fence
Переглядів 1134 місяці тому
This is a view of the current state of Urrbrae Agricultural High schools frontage in the aftermath of compulsory aquisition by State and Federal government to widen the Fullarton Road/Cross road intersection. There seems to be no desire to finish the job so the school can make the school boundary safe for students and to create an attractive frontage. It makes the school look like it doesn't ca...

Nori Wai Retaining water in the landscape and reading the landscape
Переглядів 355 місяців тому
I show one of our 5 deep gullies that we plan to slow the flow of and use the water in our landscape. I also show the North South ridges that we intend to plant with lucerne tree (Tagasaste) and Old man Saltbush as fodder trees. They will provide shade, reduce evaporation and hold the flow of water down the steep slope. This video was made with Clipchamp
Introduction to Nori Wai
Переглядів 945 місяців тому
I have purchased a property at Mannum in September which we have named Nori Wai. This is the first video I have published but I intend to post videos regularly on how we transform this property for our the development of our family and friends. I intend to develop the property via regenerative agriculture.
Urrbrae 2023 AI lambs at 8 weeks of age
Переглядів 11910 місяців тому
These lambs continue to grow quickly and evenly. They are now eating grass and hay and their rumens are developing. This has taken some of the pressure off the Ewes who appear to have recovered condition as the lambs dependence on them for 100% of their nutrition diminishes.

What semen breeds do you have, can I get Finnsheep semen?
The ''Money'' markets would be slashing wrists watching all that water heading off to the Southern Ocean 😅😅
Please make sure you get your information correct before posting. Also I know it’s interesting but you need to make sure you do not enter private land or go on the levee banks as they are closed to public sightseers.
I am surprised that there has been no levee work for the preparation of the 2022 flood... Last known work was in 1974 for that flood, as I remember as a kid, the scrapers and graders busy building up the levee bank right along the settlement... back then the river level was about 20cm short of the top of the levee, behind the swamp land of the farm where we lived at Monteith.... '56 however as you mentioned Greg, certainly inundated the whole area, even from what I saw of photos from my grandfather's place at the time... the higher land being limestone, still bore the scars of water erosion from that flood when I was growing up there....
Graeme And Ian Hunt have prepared sandbags to 1956 levels. No one else. Water was up from Bells Landing carpark to the road last week. I am going back this week to see if the levee has been breached yet. I suspect it is getting pretty close now. I will put up a video about it then
Remember 30 odd years ago the whole weir moved 5 mm down stream .
Thanks as of this morning you would be knee deep! The little bridge and tables under water, table tennis table not quite topped out. Town jetty moved to channel opposite snake island. White posts tops just visible. 3/11/22. All locks from 1-10 not functioning, overflowing.
I remember probably 45 years ago staying at a camping ground downstream of the weir on the Victorian side of the Murray. There was a small beach at the campground from which you could see the weir. We swam there every day. I imagine that beach is underwater now with this water release. Amazing what memories can be triggered by an image or video. Thanks for this 😀
Thanks Greg for posting this.

I’m 48 am in Mildura Greg. It’s going to be high this year I think.
GOT A HOUSEBOAT booked in november....its looking iffy
theres more coming.. most vic rivers that flow into the murray are flooded as well.. mitigation aside.
Terrific use of the Eco-Shelter, I bet that cost a pretty penny $$.
But not as much cost as the STEM centre, The Skills centre, The TAFE
Great video, kid talking at start is going places

Hey Greg, I have got a bit of an issue with my broad beans and I can't find an answer anywhere. I thought it was too much nitrogen as I added a bought fertilizer to the soil but after what you have said maybe not. Not sure how to add a photo on here but I know its not bean rust or chocolate spot. The stems are going brown and the leaves a pale colour with brown area along the veins, not spots or holes. I only watered the compost well before planting them and if really dry. Any advice would be awesome. Many thanks Tania (UK)
Good job luddy i cant do that : (
