Jacob and Nate Sharpe competing in the Teams division at the IJA Festival 2008. This routine won first place. The stage had too low a ceiling for 4 high, so they had to move to in front of the curtain.

    Jacob, have you ever taken a ballet class? It might help you get the "smoothness" you are trying to achieve.

    You sharing these practice sessions is more inspiring than most deliberately inspiring things online. Thank you for showing even the things that are not quite there (especially, I guess for sharing the things not quite there). I look forward to seeing it all continue to improve and come together. Always amazing stuff!

    Jacob how are you training acro? I'm really interested to start but don't have professional places to learn in my area. Through UA-cam I've learnt hand balancing and some levers/presses but how about flips? Any advice? Things to start with to break me in, etc

    • @jacobshhharpe
      @jacobshhharpe 8 років тому

      I'd just suggest that you train consistently, and always train the same bunch of moves, trying to improve them just a bit each time. And to try harder stuff, just do the beginning of the movement, whatever is easy for your body... Start with what your body wants to do, and only ever ask it to go a bit better than that; try not to worry about whether you look stupid or cool, and don't focus at all on whether you "got" the trick or not. If you ask often enough and gently and with attention, you'll be surprised to come back some days or weeks later and find that the easy starting place for your body is now much further along. Don't train the hell out of any one trick. Try to build a practice routine that's satisfying and consistent. Do less reps if your body asks you to. I did this all without a coach you can too but be careful and don't get hurt and try to sue me!!

    I can see the base of some extremely difficult skills you're working toward. You're already extremely good at juggling & diabolo. If you really want to develop those acro skills, it'll surely cut into your other practices. Are you really wanting to branch out from your best fields, or do you just fudge around with this acro stuff from time to time?

    • @jacobshhharpe
      @jacobshhharpe 8 років тому

      I've been training 4 juggling props and acro all equally for a year and a half now, none of them cut into each other, they all get trained 5 days a week, and they all improve steadily. 👍🏻

    When I visit youtube and check subscriptions for new vids, I always watch yours first. Greatly admire the determination and time you've put into mastering so many skills. And thanks for showing the drops too. It's a nice reminder that no matter how good we are, mistakes and bobbles are part of the process. :)
