WTF is Personal Branding
No seriously, what is it? I've heard so so much about it, so it's time to go over what Personal branding is, isn't and how to build and develop one.

      That these rebrands from 2023 can be great case studies for how to create and develop identities for brands, and even the history of the brand and identity (Baskin Robbins as another example) can influence this. Apologies if this wasn't clear from the video

    So basically do mock-ups and volunteer if you can, got it. Also your voice gets muffed / soft very often whenever you turn your head towards the camera and its making it pretty hard to hear you. Can you adjust your microphone towards you and maybe increase the gain and normalize the audio? Thanks.

    • @CraigReid
      @CraigReid 8 місяців тому

      It's more than just creating mock-ups and volunteering. It's about creating a portfolio worthy of the clients you want to work with or companies you want to work for. Building your own style and networking with those in your industry is also important for community building and developing yourself as a creative. As for the audio I am working on those issues as I learn the software to edit audio and video. Thank you

      I think new directions for brands as solid as Frostbite can be really difficult to execute, thanks for your comment. Being recognisable when your have THE Frostbite logo was definitely going to be a challenge for EA

  • @ProfessionalMooman
    @ProfessionalMooman 9 місяців тому

    Logo looks incredible, though maybe doesn't capture the brand image as well. But the simple *not Helvetica* font is a major downgrade, and a loss of identity that's all too common in modern branding

    • @CraigReid

      I feel a lot of brands are picking up the "not Helvetica" type choice and it does not seem to hit as effectively.

  • @Duckb0y

    I love the rebrand but I think it should have stayed closer to the smashed hand. To me Frostbite to the extreme is a shattered body part. Which fits with the destruction element of the engine. I'm glad we're going back to more 3D looking logos/branding. Reddit recently made their logo 3D again and Facebook has made reactions on posts 3D. Bring back frutiger aero

    • @CraigReid
      @CraigReid 9 місяців тому

      Reddit's rebrand by Pentagram did an excellent job without looking to uncanny. There is potential for Frostbite to return to its roots like Baskin Robins in future though, after reading this I do partially agree, the shattered hand design maybe should keep its place, but we are interested to see where this new direction takes EA.

    It is hard to understand what "Polychron" was thinking. He had self-published Fellowship of the King through Amazon and others, and had basically been ignored by the Estate, notwithstanding his hand-delivery of the manuscript. Frankly, he was lucky at that point. But no, he wasn't content with that. He sued Amazon over Rings of Power. The only reason I can think of for such a self-destructive move is that he expected to get publicity for his book (and that actually happened), and figured that Amazon would just settle his nuisance lawsuit after a protracted litigation during which he would sell lots of copies, and he would have to pull the book (or books) off their market site. He evidently knew as little about law-in theory and practice-and about Amazon as he knew about Tolkien's world. He probably didn't ask anyone for advice (or didn't take it)-someone who writes a sequel to Lord of the Rings is probably arrogant enough to think he knows how he can do this all himself. You can find Fellowship of the King as Exhibit F (Case 2:23-cv-02831-SVW-E Document 37-6). It is truly awful, but doesn't quite reach the level of 'so bad it's funny'.

    I think a part of it is the simplification of many other mainstream brand logos. It's a quick and dirty way to stand out using legacy intellectual property that's both a nod to the past and a way of looking forward. Nostalgia is still cool and if you have a suitable brand you can reinvent that coolness by strapping on a modernized classic logo. Plus, older logos I think we're better designed. They had more thought put into them, you could use them in many different applications. So a company could take advantage of that.

    • @CraigReid
      @CraigReid 10 місяців тому

      I think companies do take advantage of trends and follow them, but in turn you're potentially sacrificing your longevity by keeping to a short lived trend which I feel a lot of brands and businesses fall into. The big brands like Nike can afford to have several rebrands as these trends develop. Thanks for your take!

    I thought the Burberry rebrand of 2018 looked exceptionally dull. This is much better. Until the last year or two it felt like every logo (if it hadn't been reduced to simply plain text) was getting flatter and simpler to the point everything looked almost the same. I'm looking forward to something more elaborate becoming fashionable again. Maybe some suggestion of depth and texture even, if they want to be extra crazy.

    • @CraigReid
      @CraigReid 10 місяців тому

      Burberry deifntiely smashed it in terms of both going back to their roots and looking so different from every other flat rebranding. I completely agree that the age of 'flat design' is getting rather stale now.

    If I was to offer any advice, it would be to really lay off on the noise reduction and compression you're using. It manages to garble your voice so much at some points it's hard to hear what you're saying. You're in a room with a condenser mic but sounds like it's been sound treated as if you were talking into a phone mic outside in a storm.
