The Sacred Harp (which I sing) has a variation of the tune PROTECTION arranged by a Georgia musician named Zachariah Chambliss in 1844 and called BELLEVUE. Apparently it had appeared earlier in Joseph Funk's Genuine Church Music in 1832.

Oh wow great nice to meet another singer of Shape Notes🙂 Thank you for sharing this information. That's amazing! Is there a place on the internet anywhere currently where we could listen to BELLEVUE do you know?

@@thefunnywomacks Here you go: ua-cam.com/video/7XInl-KpUCw/v-deo.html As was mentioned in your video, the singers are seated in a "hollow square" formation, with a different part on each side of the square. The leader stands in the center of the square, facing the tenor section, since they sing the melody. One difference between the Harmonia Sacra and the Sacred Harp is that the Sacred Harp uses a fa-sol-la four shape notation, while the Harmonia Sacra uses a do-re-mi seven shape system. In Sacred Harp the singers will usually run through the tune first using the shape notes and going fa-sol-la, and then sing the song with the words, as they do in this recording.

Honestly I wish it could just always be like this. She had a single wake-up call through her DUI, and was required to comply with a program. She surrendered, and absorbed what they were teaching her in her program. More importantly, she actually quit drinking. Her family also stepped up and took responsibility for their part of the family problem by seeking the neccessary help ie a couples counselor and tutor. Take away access to these resources, add mental health or PTSD history, an abusive or absent partner, and this situation would have turned out so, so different. Alcohol is a solution, not the problem, and it takes a lot of money, time and willingness to take on those problems.

@Fast Internet Am I supposed to feel bad for you? I'm still supporting the same wife. I still owe money on a house I will be lucky to own half of, and I still have to go to work in a pandemic. It's a matter of perspective. And, of course, everclear.

And I have to add that I didn't mean to come off as such a douchebag cause for all i know your problems could be worse than mine. But my point remains the same... Alcoholism, drug addiction, or any other extreme outlet is not a CAUSE it is a symptom of a greater issue. Hopelessness. And self-medication often provides a mechanism for stomaching the bullshit for just one more day. Just one more day. Do the job. Pay the bills. Just one more day.
