Archer met a man by the name of Jesus Christ on a bus in California and went home with him to his shack in the Sierra mountains
Wot followed was 3 rigorous days of spiritual instruction but at the end it was clear: it didn't matter that this man had the name Jesus Christ on his official personal identity documents, he was a racist. Archer left this man and as he walked through a forest of dead pine trees this song come to him in a vision.

PS: The power went out during the recording of Muhammad and Jesus which was taken all around as a good omen. At this point Tubad rearranged the song to great effect. At the beginning of the recording of Muhammad and Jesus it was not known how the song would end, in fact the singer tried to end the song 2/3 of the way into the 2nd instrumental break, but then Seva Venet played the Dobro and Archer came up with the ice-cream and a cigarette holding hands verse on the spot, and the rest is history.
