You can check the show menu for "manipulators" but also check the Tweak Mode setting of the move tool.. You might have accidentally toggled it using the ` hotkey

      oh, you mean the keys on screen.... I use CamTasia to capture and edit, and it can automatically show all the hotkeys

    im intended to make knot kind of loose around a pole, and dynamically tighten it, do i have to place 2 objects to drive the start and end of the knot curve to drive the tightening or can i spare any other object and just make it work with the nhair system?

    how often do you use nHair, nCloth etc ? seems that it does the job for such setup without going into houdini and stuff.

      yeah it all depends on what's needed.. I'll use nHair and nCloth for a lot of shots to add some simple dynamics. And it's been around for a long time . so it's pretty stable

      @@trystanbleuven791 yeah, bifrost is coming up quick.. It can do so much, and Autodesk seems to be putting alot of effort into it. There are some great youtube channels for bifrost as well.

      short answer is yes.. You can make the balloon into a nCloth object. and connect it to the string using an nConstraint. like component to component *(if I get time, I'll see if I can make a video for that )

      There will be 3 objects: 1- balloon 2- String, 3- a mesh on the ground that will get lifted up with the help of the floating balloon i know how to make the balloon fly, and know how to connect the string, the only issue is l.ifting up the mesh from the ground

    This is so cool and clean wtf ? I've never seen anybody (including my current teachers) talk about this, how come ? Do people prefer the triple joint chain setup or is there issues with this method ?

      for me I stopped using the 3 chain rig setup once the IkBlend on maya's ikHandles was stable.. ( around maya 2016 I think ) .. A lot of ppl are slow to adopt it. and don't trust it.

      @@trystanbleuven791 I generally drive the ribbons with the "basic FK/IK" setup. and for stretching I act upon same setup ... so the "simple" arm or leg has all the fk ik and stretching. and the ribbon / noodle/spline IK stuff is on a layer of rig being driven by the basic setup

Struggling to find good ways to rig arms and shoulders with twists etc..all those tutorials on UA-cam works fine until you character is rotated 180 degrees and actually using their arms lol

      any three points will work. and a quad leg is the same as a humans, just lifted the heel off the ground higher. like a high heeled shoe.. you can choose any 3 points in space to find the triangle to deterrmine the position

    I cannot install the script :-/ In the description there written "place the five pyc files into [documents]/maya/[version]/prefs/scripts/" But there are only 2 files for 2022 version of Maya. I'm using 2022.3 now. And when I try to Execute: import sm_channel_tools sm_channel_tools.UI() Maya returns the error: # Error: ImportError: file <maya console> line 1: Bad magic number in C:/Users/***/Documents/maya/2022/prefs/scripts\sm_channel_tools.pyc # It's when I using " -pythonver 2" for Maya.exe But if I remove it, Maya also returning an error, but just a bite different: # Error: ImportError: file <maya console> line 1: bad magic number in 'sm_channel_tools': b'a ' Looks like there is something with this script and its Maya 2022 compatibility (Checked on the Maya 2020.4 - workin pretty well/ Bust I need to Use It on 2022 ..)

      @@smann3d399 Hmm there was some weird errors hapened With Maya 2022 -pythonver 2 same error like before But with python ver 3 there is a new stuff: sorry sm_node_tools not found! sorry sm_attr_connections not found! sorry sm_pose_tools not found! # Error: NameError: file C:\Users\steph\Documents\maya\2017\scripts\sm_channel_tools.py line 89: name 'sm_node_tools' is not defined # I even haven't 2017 Maya version, and its not my windows uesername where Maya trying to find a script path. 🤔 Also I imported only "sm_channel_tools.pyc and "sm_node_tools.pyc" (all files in the 2022 folder) but error says Maya can't find some other addition files like "sm_attr_connections" and "sm_pose_tools".

      The lattice, and the lattice base both need to follow the parent of the eye joints.. I just parented them both with the eye joints, and then put that under the head joint

    Cool stuff! I also thought the "Show on mouse proximity" was cool but quickly disabled it... I now just have a NURBS Viz toggle hotkey instead. Might be interesting to add this to the Secondary and Tertiary controllers. I also found that, while animating, I want different pickwalking orders depending on the Animation stage I'm at. If I'm blocking, I'd pick-walk through the big Arm FK controls (for instance), but if I'm polishing, I'll want to pickwalk among the FK arm bendnbows and/or detail controls. Even more obvious if it's, say, a tentacle and I want to pick-walk only on one tentacle and each main control's aim control. As for toggling the Pickwalk-ability, I use these optionVars: from maya import cmds as mc mc.optionVar(intValue=["PickWalkDownStopsAtTransform",True]) # Pickwalk Shapes mc.optionVar(intValue=["ControllerPickwalking",True])# Pickwalk Controllers

      ah nice ! .. Weirdly using True/False didn't work for me for Custom Pick walk off/on .. but I found a twitter post from Will Telford using 0/1 and that worked.. The stop at transform doesn't seem to be working for me .. If you see at the top of my statusbar I have some cutom buttons for show/hiding node types.. I have the curves one setup to toggle nurbsCurves and Controllers .

      mostly add functionality.. two other big ones are quickly adding enum attributes, and a bunch of attributes.. I need to do a quicky update video.. long story short. if you put in names with spaces ie: super duper looper you will get three channels based on the button you hit (ie: float / int / bool. ) .. but if you use : then like this channel_name:red:green:blue then it will make a new enum channel named "channel_name" with the enums red green blue

      yeah, for simple scripts where you don't care about the "fails" it's super handy, there is also a catchQuiet that won't report the errors.

      Sorry to hear that. This wasn't meant as a follow along tutorial per se. but more just an example of how I might rig a guitar. The thing to note is you don't need any "add-ons" to do any of this. The only part that might need more explanation is the control maker. But that is just nurbsCircles parented to themselves, and then moving the top groups to match the locations of the locators.. I could do a follow up to explain it all if needed. hth
