Bone stock 240K mile transmission, and stock 3.42 gears. Exhaust is 1 3/4" pacesetter LT headers with dual 3" exhaust high flow cats, xpipe, cutouts, then trough a 22" dual 3" magnaflow muffler.

I just idle it and drove it easy to tuner. Kept under 2K rpms. It will drive might stall some, but 100% get a tune as soon as you can is my recommendation.

Worse than my old smaller cam lol probably 13-14ish around town 18-20 highway. I have stock trans/stall and 3.42 rear gears.

It did get tuned shortly after, I was finishing up working out some bugs before I took it. HP tuners 93 octane dyno tune. Been running awesome for almost 7-8K miles.

Gen 3 5.3L

Nope, have put about 7K miles on it since the swap. Oil pressure is 40-45 psi at idle and 50-55+ driving around. No debris in oil or filter. Got lucky I guess.

After the tune still had random poor start up 30% of the time. The poor starting winded up being, I put a brand new O'Reillys cam sensor in during cam swap. Total junk. Bought a AcDelco Cam sensor from Chevy dealership parts center for $120, truck fires up perfect every time. Also, the surge is b/c I had the vacuum hose from throttle body to passenger valve cover unplugged in the video once I plugged it back in much smoother.

Pacesetter 1 3/4 longtubes, dual 3" exhaust, with magnaflow high flow cats, x pipe, cut outs, and a big 22" magnaflow muffler dumped before the rear axle. Cut outs are closed in most the videos.

I had another vehicle to drive, so I was in no rush. Plus it was cold for us Texans in Feb/March. I also took the time to fully clean and detail every part of engine bay. I could do cam swap in a weekend if I wanted to/have done it twice on other trucks. Rush to do a shity job, or take your time to do a nice job and make the vehicle overall nicer and cleaner. Up to the individual.

Can you drive it reliably before getting it tuned or does it need tuned right away

@@thekingofnoobs8362 i was able to drive normally on it for a few days before I got it tuned. It did stall here and there but only bc idle on this cam needed to be raised a bit. I just threw it in neutral and gas a bit on red lights. Nothing crazy.

@chris09mejia1 I just need to drive it to the tuner for a cam, lifters, timing sprockets and timing chain, oil pump would cost like 1500 at a shop even if it's the easy LS motor it's a good learning experience anyway

@thekingofnoobs8362 yea it was the second time I attempted it and it went smoother and quicker than the first. You should be fine. I did change the oil before the tune tho

@@christopher3067 not lying man. I just got the tune dialed in and the truck sounding like a demon and bam. Rattle rattle squeek, jerk, bang! Lol. Oh well back to the jack stands in the shop it is.

Do u have a stall and headers?

Bolt ons, LT headers dual 3" exhaust, CAI, Electric fans, 93 octane custom tune. I ran out of fuel injector though with my 24Lb/hr stock injectors. Going to get 42Lb/hr this fall when Texas heat goes away.

If the truck can maybe make it, maybe look for a shop in north Texas. I I think I saw something in one of your videos you might be in OK

@Chris Topher yeah I think it would make it that far. It doesn't run hot or act funny. Just seems a bit rich and poorly timed maybe

@Chris Topher true. I'd rather it be rich than leaning out and burning valves and plugs ect. It does get scoot out pretty good though. It'll pin you in the seat and shred the tires if you want it to, but my idle just doesn't hit like some of the others with the same cam.

So much better! Needs a tune, but doesn't stall or hesitate when driving. Of course truck was tuned for my old 210/218 .551/.551 116lsa cam so that probably helps some verse a factory tune.

@Chris Topher yeah I bet that did help some. I got a base tune on mine now ti keep it from dying but it's idling too high now. I'm either going to have to learn some hp tuning stuff or find another tuner I think.

@@tb0nz4ya yea you want to find a really good tuner even if they charge a little extra. Everything comes down to a good tune. Performance and especially drivability. Wonder why they only did a base tune and didn't just fully tune it?

@Chris Topher the whole experience wasn't very good there man. I brought the truck to the guys house basically. He plugged in a tune that he did in another truck norris cam and it wouldn't even run. After an hour or so we had it idling in gear and out of gear. Went for a drive test. Made a few adjustments and brought it back in. It was running decent I guess. But idled a bit high. But once i got it home. It's like it never wants to settle below 850 ish and isn't chopping anymore or very little now. Drives better than no tune but have to ride the brakes a lot and it sounded better untuned vs this tune. The guy said to let him know of I had any issues. I did and he has left me on the back burner and never responded to me. So I have to either find someone else or get to learning. Tuners around here are booked for ever or sketchy it seems like. At this point I'm about to drop 550 on the hp pro setup and get to experimenting. Anyway it's got me kinda sad. I did make a good pull on a 6.0 yesterday. It does make power just not properly yet.

@@tb0nz4ya I'm sorry to hear that, it can be frustrating. It's also shifting at like 5K that thing should be running out to 6K. It could go 6500 but I wouldn't on stock 4L60e. If you spend money on hp tuners b/c of your situation, think of it as a car payment or two, so not the end of the world. But, if you do go that route, obviously tones of research, and make very minor adjustments to make it run better until a true experienced professional can get you scheduled. I'll post video of my dyno session once I can get a slot. I took it to my tuner a week or two ago and they could tune it because of misfire, so I feel the pain.

Yea I went back and forth, worse case if it becomes a problem again probably going to buy a low mile 5.3 and build it on engine stand with flat tops and gen 4 rods

@@efraingracia-bp1ce I cracked the plug on cylinder #3. Never cracked one before, but must have had some angle on the wrench when installing. Check plugs and make sure no cracks in wires. If you know which cylinder it is and plugs and wires look fine you can swap coil packs to see if misfire moves.

It's going to be epic! Best cam for 5.3L esp stock stall/trans. If you want the chop lol

@@thekingofnoobs8362 It will struggle. Any cam is going to need a tune, even a tune though may need a few revision for daily driving depending on the individual driving style wants.

No gained probably a solid 30-35 rwhp from the cam with my LT headers, bolt ons, 93 octane tune. Feels like a little 40-50 shot of N20 from 4K-6K rpm compared to stock. Makes a lot more tq/power feel down low than stock cam. Still have cats and 100% emissions compliant!

@@moejr14 I went with pacesetters LT 3/4" primaries, they were like $350-400 for the ceramic coated pair. Then I bought magnaflow 3" catilac converters, x pipe, cutouts, and magnaflow dual 3" 22" muffler dumped right after before axle. This video had cutouts open which are fun for around town and a little while. But highly obnoxious, mainly keep them closed and run through my 22" magnaflow.

Some people say 3/4" keep better low end power/tq verse 7/8" on smaller 4.8/5.3 applications. Plus the cheap price why I went with smaller primaries 10ish years ago.

After I installed headers, I payed local exhaust shop $200 provide tubing/welding for my true dual 3" exhaust layout. I already bought cats, x pipe, cut outs, muffler so it saved some cost, b/c all they provided was tubing and welding/routing.

This is stock trans and converter. Still works 3 years later at 225K lol truck has longtube headers, CAI, baby 210/218 duration cam and tune basically. Fun smooth daily driver.

This cam would make tons of tq in a LQ4 6.0. Nothing but gains 1500-6K rpm range. Probably 60-70 hp gain with baby 210/218 cam with long tubes and custom tune.

Yea it is beastly for a 5.3L lol, this is also on 87lbs 20" rims, so imagine the power with light weight 60-65lbs stock 16-17" rims and tires! Probably be another 20-25 hp/tq at the wheels.

Check out other videos on channel. It does 0-60 in 5.8-6.0 sec. That is with 4700lb ext cab 87lb 20" 275/55/R20, stereo subs/box/amps, and stock trans rear end 220K miles now! Bone stock weighing around 4550 with light weight 60lb wheels they run like 7.80-8 sec 0-60. So 2 sec gain still NA not to bad!

Was mainly showing how stock trans and new tune 3 years ago acted with the smaller scale cam for DD part throttle driving. You can see in my other videos stock stall and 3.42s are not great for digs but plenty fine for DD and highway use.
