Renata Koch Alvarenga, from Brazil, is a leading voice for gender equality and youth leadership in the global climate movement. She founded EmpoderaClima to raise awareness of the need for women’s empowerment in climate decision-making spaces, and advocate for girl’s education and climate action.
Renata was the first young Brazilian to speak at the UN Commission on the Status of Women opening, alongside the UN Secretary-General, and was nominated by Malala as a young leader to watch. She is an Environmental Educator 30 Under 30, and has been on youth councils of international organizations, including UN Women, UN Girls’ Education Initiative, World Economic Forum, Vital Voices, and New York Times. Renata was awarded the inaugural Beautiful Forces grant by Estée Lauder for her innovative work.
She graduated with a Master's from Harvard University. She has professional experience in global climate policy, having worked at the British Mission in Brazil, UN Youth Office, and World Bank.
