    I usually run my FX3 on a DJI Ronin RS3 Pro with the USB-C port dedicated to connecting to the gimbal. In this case I wouldn't be able to connect the monitor (like Shinobi II) to the camera to get the benefits of touch to focus etc. I'm already used to not having that functionality with the Small HD 702 Bright I've been using with the FX3/Ronin combo, but in the market for a smaller monitor and can't yet decide between the Shinobi II vs the Portkeys LH5P II. The only thing I'd likely be making use of in terms of camera control on the monitor would be touch to focus. I should also add I'm frequently power cycling my whole setup as usually shooting for longer times.

    • @RossBarnett02
      @RossBarnett02 5 днів тому

      @@mOo84 Looks like the LH5PII might be the best choice based on your setup & needs (touch to focus + wireless connection). I’m interested if the FX3 can do both (camera control via USB-C to the Ronin PLUS camera control via wifi to the LH5PII). For some reason, I don’t think the camera will allow both connections. I might be wrong with that one though. I can try and test this with my own setup.

    • @mOo84
      @mOo84 5 днів тому

      @@RossBarnett02 That would be interesting because camera control via the Ronin is much more important to me than touch focus on the monitor. I don’t think I’d find a real need to use any of the on-monitor camera controls - it’d literally just be the ability to use touch to focus.

    Hello Ross, I have to slide into your comments again 😄 Currently you are the only one comparing the Shinobi II with the LH5P II. Is it really that bad to establish a connection to the camera's WiFi connection? It should take a few seconds at most, right? Using one less cable would be a benefit in principle, I thought 😄

    • @RossBarnett02
      @RossBarnett02 13 днів тому

      @@Marvnz It’s not bad. And, even the fact I’m complaining about it is a little silly. However, with the way I typically shoot all day events, continuously connecting the monitor every time I start up the camera gets annoying. Plus, I’ve had a few weddings with full bands where the wireless connection isn’t stable due to so much wireless in the room. It’s little things like that that drive me to the shinobi II.

      Honestly tough call on the "best" monitor. I guess it really all depends on your use case. Currently I'm rocking with the Shinobi II + LH7P for larger sets. I don't mind the plastic build on the LH7P because it's typically never in a position to be dropped/bent/broken. But, that's just me. The metal build of the LH5P II is nice though.

      Honestly it's a tough call. Spec wise - the LH5P II is better. User experience wise, I prefer the UI and camera control of the Shinobi II.. Honestly the only reason i'd recommend the LH5P II over Shinobi II is if you need loop HDMI out often, or would need wireless camera control (say, for controlling a camera on a car rig). But, my everyday use case for this monitor is handheld on a camera rig, so the Shinobi II wins mainly off of user experience and not needing the HDMI out. But still, tough call.

    What about transmission? Most 5 inch monitors do not have hdmi out. (Why???!!) Most affordable transmitters do not have hdmi out. I am currently “forced” on using feelworld monitor because it has hdmi out (but as a monitor it’s not that good) and hollyland mars 400s pro transmitter (only hdmi/sdi in, like most transmitters out there). In order to get a good monitor, this shinobi ii for example, that has no hdmi output, I need a transmitter with hdmi out, so the camera’s output will go to the TX and then to the monitor. Nobody really mentions the lack of output on most 5 inch monitors, or the lack of output on most transmitters. On my case, there is always a client or creative director nearby to check the shots (I do commercials and corporate). If I get the shinobi ii, the only solution for transmission that I found, is hollyland pyro H, that has HDMI in and out. Are there any other recommendations? What are you guys and gals using as a monitor/transmitter combo? On the other hand, 7 inch monitors, usually do have output, like shinobi 7. Or recorders, even at 5 inch, do have output. But I don’t want a recorder or a 7 inch monitor for my rig.

    • @RossBarnett02
      @RossBarnett02 16 днів тому

      @@danielgray1874 In my setup, the V-mount battery powers the monitor. Then, the USB-C from the monitor powers the camera while utilizing camera control. Draining the V-mount battery. Or, you can put a NP-L battery on the back of the monitor - and with power delivery on the monitor battery will charge the camera.
