    Thanks for the video's, Terry. I'm glad to see you're not wasting your time towing a caravan to Skegness for the weekends. That looks like a very basic fletching jig, which proves you don't need those expensive ones. And yes, some shops do charge like the proverbial wounded bull for glue etc. Cheers from Australia.

    I've a brace height comparison for you - i have two bows - one has a normal alu riser with border limbs, which have a much lower brace height than is usual, the other is a beginner wooden, non-ilf training bow with normal brace height. I never get slap with the border limbs and do with the standard ones....

    • @thebarebowbrummie
      @thebarebowbrummie 2 місяці тому

      That's interesting 🤔, my guess is the trainer bow probably has a much thicker grip area ( that's very common). This can change your grip position or maybe the limb alignment is slightly out, moving the string to the inside.

    Yep.. once you learn to turn your elbow out in your form.... No more string slap. Sloppy form equals string slap. I think I have suffered slap around 4 times at the beginning... I learnt correct form quickly.😅

    Great tips!!! Most bows I don't hit my arm or wrist. My w@w black elk riser I hit my arm most times but not a bad arm hit. One thing I tried with this riser I stick my butt out , torso forward and the bows more angled so there is a little more distance from arm and string.. Helped me..

    When i started archery i was gripping the bow like i was strangling it lol, and my shots was bad. Then i learned the proper technique. Ive seen some pro archers use wrist bands that attach the bow to the hand allowing the bow to just fall and not hit the floor. Like you said even the best have off days where they'll make a mistake, it happens, like in most sports your not always on your game.

  • @HondoTrailside

    I don't think that the point you make at 2:00 is correct. At full draw the tilt of the arrow is not exagerate at the head, as the head is not at the low point one your paper, but is lying on the rest. At release it will go forward it does not slide down the rest to assume the position as on your paper. The situation is far more dynamic. Which is part of the reason one might want to used paper tuning in the first place. For instance the 5mm that the nock was placed above square, might undergo various changes depending on how evenly the limbs bent and recover. Not that that would be so great, but it would not be the effect one might imagine, as the tail makes a very rapid rise through the stroke.

      @thebarebowbrummie 3 місяці тому

      @harimathur2191 as a rule of thumb I would recommend a 68" but with a 28" draw length you are in the lucky position you can choose whether you want your bow to be a bit more aggressive (go with a 66) or a bit more forgiving (choose the 70). Hope this helps you.

    Well, i love doing wood work and for me its a sin to paint over a riser because they normally have a nice wood finish. So why they painted it like that just blows my mind lol. Also small little touches like the red line really gave it some more character. Honestly you did a great job considering you said yourself your not a woodworker. maybe put some noise dampeners on the top limbs so it doesn't make that rattle noise you often get with those limbs. Very impressed and most importantly it works as intended so a good practice bow for a kid. Well done mate, i always enjoy your videos when i catch them. 👍🏻

      @IREFUSE9 you can use a pair of nocking pliers if you have some but I just use a pair of wire cutters and place one of the blade in the gap of the brass nock and gently squeeze then the nock will open without any real damage. You can do it with a flat blade screwdriver but I've stabbed myself in the fingers too much doing that. Enjoy the archery journey.

    Another great video, thank you. On a separate note I see you arrow rest tip aligns with your pressure button. Is this deliberate? Have you cut it back just adjust on wrap-around slot? Thanks Steve

    • @thebarebowbrummie
      @thebarebowbrummie 4 місяці тому

      @trujedi good observation. I shoot very thin carbon arrows outdoors so I have to position my rest quite close to the plunger. The end of the rest is slightly bent up to help stop the arrow falling off the rest if I happen to pinch it ( which I sometimes do if I'm under pressure during a competition). When I shoot indoors I use much thicker arrows so I lower the rest to allow for it.

  • @trujedi
    @trujedi 4 місяці тому

    Hi, great video, very easy to follow, thank you. Couple of questions, are you shooting level through the paper or slightly down becaue of boss height and also, would you need to move nock point if changing arrows, say fatter or thinner diameter, different spine etc?

    • @thebarebowbrummie
      @thebarebowbrummie 4 місяці тому

      @trujedi hi, in this case, I am shooting slightly downwards but it doesn't make any difference to the way the arrow goes through the paper what you are trying to do is get the point and the fletching to pass through the same hole. If you change to thicker or thinner arrows your nock height will change very slightly but changing arrow stiffness should not affect your nock point. Hope this helps. Enjoy your archery journey and thanks for the support.

    How do you know / work out, how far back or forth from the nock to place the fletching on the shaft?

    • @thebarebowbrummie
      @thebarebowbrummie 6 місяців тому

      That's an interesting question. ideally, you position your fletching as near to the nock as you can bearing in mind you need to place your fingers between the fletching and the nock. But there is a little bit of trial and error involved, so it's not a precise science. I tend to measure the distance based on similar arrows with the same size fletching and then adjust them to improve stability until I find the right position. I hope this helps. Enjoy the archery journey.

    I got so fed up with fletching, I decided to just shoot without fletch. My rationale: I’m at a stage where I’m far from a beginner and far from being “good”. I’m “competent”. Fletch is a waste on my at my skill level.

    • @thebarebowbrummie

      Hi Peter. I think you need to reconsider. Your fletching creates stability in your arrow flight. Without them you may have very little consistency, and the slightest fault in your release or the tune of your bow could mean a bad miss.
