This is a comparison of an idea. Two answers to the same question. Two very different weapons but yet much the same. Two approaches from two different cultures separated by a vast distance and hundreds of years of time yet…. The American Bowie knife and the South African Okapi (cold steel kudu in this case). Snap cut vs flick. It all boils down to Climate, Culture and Technology. The roots, the...

3 is almost perfect but it just sounds a little stuffy. I’m not sure how to fix that but I think the cover is better for just talking and it’s not meant to pick up other sounds very well. Your voice sounds good though

Great video, Sifu! I genuinely appreciate the lesson and how you expeditiously (1 minute 30 seconds) demonstrated the four-part template of human movement, which encompasses all hand-held bladed weapon-fighting martial systems and arts, while clearly explaining the ergonomic, philosophical, and theoretical principles for further understanding and application. This understanding of how the human body works should be part of the basic foundation of those training before they begin training! So many basic principles of human movement are unknown to the public. Thanks for sharing and keep these coming!

It is a Piper thing (a South African style). It mimics the ring on an okapi knife. It serves much the same purpose as the rings on a Chinese 9 ring broadsword.

Thanks for the video!! I think in capable hands a karambit can hold its own against a regular knife if they were skilled like you; but if someone has like you said a folder or small fixed blade and a little training I think they win more often then not.

I enjoyed this presentation. I will keep this and practice it. In a future video, could you speak to Footework? I had a small amount of fencing in college in the 80s, but I no longer move fluidly. knee replacements, and back injuries and surgeries have me moving rather mechanically, and much more slowly. I would enjoy a tutorial on simple foot work, and balance with maybe a note or two for those that have aged. in any case, thank you for this video, and for the time and expertise that it demonstrates you have accrued over the years.

With small blades, especially folding knives, I personally prefer the reverse grip if only the opponent, and especially many opponents are not armed with a knife, It is much safer for yourself, for your eyes and neck, in all levels of combat, clinch ,, ground, , You can maintain a full high boxing guard, box, strike with the end of the knife handle, strike with elbows and then with the blade, In a high guard, in defense against several opponents, the blade itself protects your head, and does not expose you to self-harm, with your own blade after hitting the opponent. Biomechanical cuts with the reverse held short blade are very strong and deep, even through clothing, if they are dealt like boxing punches, apercut and hook, Of course, your method is also correct, especially since the knife is generally We draw a folded shot with a straight grip, so it's worth practicing this as well

Almost exactly what is taught to beginners in Latosa Escrima. Very nice! Point always on target for them to step forward into, horizontal slices after the X,.....the stabs at the end is the only major variation. Stapping with blade edge out comes later for us. My latest uploud is so close to this even! Earned a subscriber....Looking forward to checking your stuff out.

I was practicing a bit a few nights ago, trying to learn the snap cut on a few cereal boxes packed with newspaper.
