I will always have a vintage air cooled dual sport in my garage. Been foolish to sell any that I have owned. Two dr650s, two XR 650s...at 68, my current XT350 suits me perfectly.
I agree completely, I wish i had them all back. I have always owned a couple of different styles of bike at the same time, but If I could only have one bike it would be an air cooled Dual Sport Single! The only style of bike that you can Tour, Cruise, Off-road, Chase sport bikes in the Canyon, explore the world off the tarmac. Road race, etc., etc.
I’ve got one just like yours, I bought it new in 2021 and really enjoyed the process of improving the bike from stock. I chose a YSS front fork kit and a pair of Hagon rear shocks which made a big difference to the handling, but the biggest improvement came when I fitted a pair of Avon Roadrider tyres. I agree totally with you that the standard Ceats are dreadful. My bike now is a joy to ride.
It is kinda like buying a bike when i was young, you could actually make the bike better. I might try the Hagons, I've heard nothing but good things about them. I do love the bike and plan on keeping it (what a great bike for the money). Thanks on the Ceats, I knew I could not be the only one.

Came out to San Diego with the Navy and southern Ca had it all back then (the 80's and 90's) Willow spring Raceway third week of the month for 12 months straight. San Diego Flat track was every 2 weeks. Carlsbad Raceway for drags and motocross. a bunch of dual sport enduro clubs trails everywhere. Climbing, surfing, sailing and fishing it was heaven.!!! Not anymore though Wera bailed from the west coast 2 years ago.

2012.. kinda old..but..here I am - 2021 - with a GSXR 1100 -91 with a bad compression on ..cylinder nr 2. So, curious: Was it the piston/rings/cylinder or the top?
