3rd Street Jazz
United States
Приєднався 22 жов 2019
The name 3rd Street Jazz actually came from one of the most popular records stores in the Philadelphia area. Located at 10 North 3rd Street it was a store I visited at least once a month from the mid 70’s until 1981 when I departed for Okinawa while serving in the United States Air Force. It seemed like every time I was home on leave I made it a point to visit 3rd Street Jazz to buy something rare to take back with me wherever I was stationed at. The employees of 3rd Street were to me the most knowledgeable historians of the jazz record business. This UA-cam Channel name 3rd Street Jazz and my Facebook page with the same name is really my way of honoring this Philly icon. I LOVED that record store. Every song loaded to this page has come from my personal CD collection. Hope you enjoy and please share it to you friend as we build.
Harold Land: The Fox 2. "Mirror Mind Rose"
Step into a world where jazz isn't just music; it's a narrative, a dialogue, a soulful conversation. Welcome to "The Fox" by Harold Land, an album that isn't merely a collection of tracks but a chronicle of emotions, stories, and timeless artistry.
Released in the vibrant year of 1959, "The Fox" stands as a beacon in the realm of hard bop jazz. Crafted in the heart of Los Angeles, this album captures the essence of a city alive with rhythm, pulsating with the beats of innovation and tradition. But what makes "The Fox" a standout masterpiece in the vast ocean of jazz?
Harold Land, with his tenor saxophone, doesn't just play; he speaks. Each note, each melody, tells a story, evoking images of smoky jazz clubs, dimly lit streets, and the golden era of jazz. But Land isn't alone on this journey. The trumpet echoes of Dupree Bolton add a layer of mystique, a touch of the enigmatic. Elmo Hope's fingers dance on the piano keys, weaving tales of love, loss, joy, and melancholy. And anchoring this musical ship are Herbie Lewis and Frank Butler, providing the rhythmic backbone, the heartbeat of "The Fox."
From the rollercoaster rhythms of the title track to the intricate allure of "Mirror-Mind Rose," each song is a chapter, a glimpse into the world of its creators. The album is a testament to collaboration, to the magic that happens when legends come together, bringing their unique voices, their stories, their souls.
For those who believe that music is more than just sound, that it's an experience, "The Fox" is a treasure trove. It invites listeners to close their eyes, open their hearts, and embark on a journey. A journey through time, through memories, through the very fabric of jazz.
So, whether you're a lifelong jazz aficionado or someone looking to explore the genre, "The Fox" by Harold Land is a must-listen. It's not just an album; it's a legacy, a testament to the power of music, and the stories it can tell.
