    Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) - How do you set this up and determine what should be included. The problem I am having is I need the info for the Schedule C of IRS Form 1040 Profit or Loss From Business. UA-cam and Internet explanations focus on restaurants not catering. The ingredients is not bought until the customer has paid the invoice. All ingredients purchased for the event is used for the event. There is no need to do inventory for ingredients. Since we operate out of a shared kitchen, the only inventory might be things like chafing dishes, warmer bags, etc. Did you have this challenge when initially working with your Bookkeeper and/or Accountant?

      @@flower_868 you make the decisions about how your service works and what your service size is for the price that you’re charging, of course that can always be adjusted with the client, but you need to know what your boundaries are.

    Supplies. Personally, I'm starting with pots and pans i feel comfortable using. I have a mix of stainless steel, enameled cast iron and hybrid pans like hexclad. I bought alot of it from Facebook market brand new. I also have 2 knifes, mixing bowls, utensils and meat thermometer from a restaurant/kitchen supply store in my area. Start up money. I'm a 24 year old living with my parents. I just started making 14$ an hour at my regular job. My credit score wasn't quite good enough to get any type of loan so I'm paying everything out of pocket. It's taking some time but I'm slowly building my supplies and getting in the practice I need to get more confident. Websites. I have a Facebook and Instagram page. I'm not used to talking to a camera so tiktok is slowly becoming a considered option for me to have. It's also a good outlet to make some income on as well. It will be a year that I've been working on this with the knowledge and money I do have. I'm hopeful and I'm excited on my time to shine ✨️ 😌

      That is specific to the food that you cook in your specialty, and how the client wants it packaged. As you cook start adding that to your recipes now.

    What is the difference between my clients kitchens and my kitchen?

      @@brucev3480 ask your health dept for a local and exact explanation. My understanding is that when preparing hazardous foods (which is why cottage laws allow only baked and other goods) is that it has to be prepared in a kitchen the client knows is safe. So in a commercial kitchen, the health department inspects and certifies it so people know that it’s safe. When you’re cooking in the clients home it’s their home and they see you so in theory they know it’s safe. In reality any way can be safe or unsafe, but that is not the letter of the law.

    The issue I'm having is I don't want to cook in other people's kitchens. I would like to work omena weekly menu with them, prepare it in my kitchen and take it to their home. I don't want to do shopping for only them. If I have a client that wants Salisbury Steaks for one of their meals. I go to the store and I see five pound packages of ground beef are on sale. I would like to buy that five pound package and freeze it and have it available for my next client that wants Salisbury Steak or if I need ground beef because someone wants Lasagna Bolognese. I can go straight to my freezer. I want to have my own stocked pantry I can just pull from. With all that being said. Getting that started is hard.

      As I talk about in the video, that business model is selling food whereas personal chef services is just that, a service. You should work through both models and look at the profit involved. I guarantee it is a lot easier and more profitable to do personal chef services. Also doing it out of your home can lead to trouble. There are plenty of trolls who love to put people and ruin their businesses. Also your liability insurance will not cover you if there is an issue. Can you imagine making someone seriously ill and getting sued? There is a lot to consider before you move forward no matter what type of business you want.
