Winter CW going strong Russ. I snagged a bitter cold IL - OK P2P today! 73 Paul
It was nice to finally work with you, Russ. You came up on my Ham Alert, and we finally made contact. The new radio looks excellent. Thanks for activating and the QSO. 73s de W3CT.
Hey. Thanks for being out there. Glad we could get a qso. You had a good signal coming onto the park. I look forward to working you again. 73 Russ KI5GBQ
Still watching and enjoying. How long did the unit take to come in from when she ordered it? I ordered a QMX and looking forward to getting it in.
Thanks for watching. She said she ordered it about two weeks before Christmas and it came in the middle of last week.
@ I figured it was a bit of a wait.
I wish I were in the log. I reliably get CW POTA QSOs from OK, right into the winter weather. 73 Paul
Man that would have been great. I’m planning on going out again first of next week. We will have to see if we can work each other.
thanks Russ great video thanks for sharing 73 from kb2uew
Thanks for watching! 73 Russ
great job terrific video 73 from kb2uew
Thanks again and hope you have a Happy New Year. 73 Russ
Happy New Year Russ 🎉. John
Thanks John and Happy New Year. 73 Russ
Typical windy Oklahoma day… I listen for you and did not hear you
Just another day in Oklahoma it seems like haha. I’ll have to start working the lower bands and see if we can have a QSO. 73
Great video Russ. Why don't you try using a delta loop? It will give a great gain for the QRP.
Thanks for suggestion. I am not too familiar with a delta loop but will be checking it out. 73
Good activation Russ. I have to stop bitchin about the cold, and just get out there again. John
Thanks John. Though I bet the cold in Oklahoma is a lot different than it is in New York. Thanks and 73
fantastic video Russ thanks 73 from kb2uew
Thanks for watching Alvaro. 73 Russ
Caught a many catfish from that lake when I was a kid back in the 70s. My favorite place was below the slipway. Do you have any recommendations for the hearing impaired to be able to work CW.
We used to catch saugeye and walleye by the spillway back when I was younger too. I know there are some computer programs that will decode and send CW but I am not familiar with them.
That was a long activation, sweet! 73 Paul KE9BHN
Thanks Paul. It was longer than I am used to. It was all starting to run together towards the end.
Windy Oklahoma! Lived here in 95% of my life…
Haha I know. Seems like it never stops
Tnx agn russ 72
Thanks for watching. 73
Good video Russ, thanks. John
Thank you John. 73 Russ
terrific job Russ 73 from kb2uew
Thanks for watching. 73 Russ
An excellent video of a POTA field operation. He is a top notch operator keeping speeds equal to those answering his calls. Always fun to contact and I have in different parks. Thanks much. 73, Bob - K9OSC
Thanks for the qso this afternoon. Always good to hear from you. 73 Russ
Could not hear you in Yukon, Oklahoma didn’t think I would be able to on 20 m…
I thought about running on 40m but didn’t think it would do much that time of day. We might have to try some kind of NVIS setup to get contacts that close
congratulations terrific job 73 from kb2uew
Thank you and thanks for checking it out. 73 Russ
Good activation, thanks. I'll be out today, (11/11) around noon (EST). I hope to work you sometime.
Awesome. I will be listening for you.
Good video Russ. Great little radio as well. I'm in upstate NY. John
Thanks for checking it out. 73 Russ
Tnx Russ
Thanks for watching. 73
That's a 5 star POTA activation, that landscape is epic 73 KE9BHN
Hey. Thanks for watching. That is definitely a pretty cool area of the state. 73 Russ KI5GBQ
Don't you just wonder about people who drag their radios, phones, and other gear along rough concrete surfaces.
Well I suppose so but I also have to appreciate someone who is willing to use field gear for what it was made for. Thanks for watching another one. 73 Russ
Thanks for the park! I had deep QSB on my end outside of Houston. N7BBQ
Hey. Thanks for the QSO. You had a good signal on my end. 73
Nice video Russ. What external speaker are you using? Is it amplified by battery?
Thank you. The speaker is just a small battery powered Bluetooth speaker. I’m not sure on the brand. It says AYL on the front. I got it off Amazon several years ago.
Tnx agn russ
Thanks for watching 73
This is great stuff. Love the 4b, I have one as well. I was lucky to get one of the first batch of the new 3b coming soon. Do a lot of POTA Hunting and hopefully will do my first activation soon. 73, JB KA9MIC.
Hey thanks for checking it out. I hoping to snag one of the new 3b’s soon. Hope to catch you on the air. 73 Russ
Great Equipment!
Thanks I agree. The mountain topper is a great little radio. Thanks for watching.
@@KI5GBQ hahah! I got my qmx setup, battery , coax, radio, speaker , keyer , EFHW, in a small bag 22x28x7 cm. Gonna try to pack it as small as i can. 73’s!!
Good work Russ, Pete from Melbourne Australia
Hey Pete. Thanks for watching. 73
Tnx agn russ
Hey thanks for checking it out. 73
2028 😂 love ur videos de ZS6MSW
Thanks for watching. 73 Russ
Hi. Learning CW. Slow but steady progress. How fast are you sending, and how long did it take you to get to that proficiency? Other than daily practice, what is one tip you would recommend to improve CW skills? Thanks, John KJ7OIB
Hey John I am running around 20 wpm. I started learning Morse code around June of 2022 and it took around 6 months before i felt like i could do an activation running about 15 wpm. The best thing i have done is just listen to code when I'm driving and try to head copy. Ninja Morse has a great collection of podcasts that i listen to when i am on the road. Good luck and hang in there. It is worth learning. 73 KI5GBQ Russ
Morse & POTA, it's always a spectacle. 72/73 de ik2rgv 👋👋
Thanks for watching. 73 Russ
Thanks for the park! N7BBQ
Thanks for hunting. 73
Glad to have you in the log, and fun to watch our QSO! Thanks! ~KD5ZZU
Hey thanks for the contact. Look forward to catching you again. 73
Listen for you and Yukon, but of course 20 m would have been very surprising for me to get you.
Yeah that would have been a pretty short hop from the lake to Yukon. I’ll be at the Salt Plains over the weekend. I might have to try 40m or 80m to get some local contacts. 73
That was quite a run! 73 KE9BHN
Hey thanks for watching. It was a fun activation even if the band conditions were not the best. 73
Tks for the activation.
Hey! Thanks for watching 73
Nice activation, Russ. Thanks for taking us along! 73
As always man. Thanks for watching 73
I fished that lake when I was a child.
I hear it’s still pretty good fishing though I have never fished it myself.
What your speed
I think I started around 23 wpm then dropped down to 20 towards the end.
Can't beat the MTR. Looking forward to the new 3B.
They are good little radios. Looking forward to the new one too.
Very enjoyable. I'd never seen a Xiegu--that's an efficient radio. 73 Paul KE9BHN
Thanks for watching Paul. The xiegu is a cheaper radio from china but seems to work pretty good for POTA. 73 Russ
Great activation, Russ. Thanks for taking us along! 73 de N4AAJ
Thanks for checking it out. 73
That was a sweet run for only a half an hour! 73 KE9BHN
It sure was. The bands were cooperating for a change. Thanks for checking it out. 73
Cool, Thanks for the video. I remember this QSO and found it in my book. I have been hoping to film some like this once I get a decent camera set up for my channel. Great to hear it from the other end. I was sending with my J-37 Str Key 73
Glad you found it. I have been trying to record most of my QSOs because I know I will miss something and it’s helpful to be able to go back and re-listen to them. Hope to catch you again. 73
Nice to hear our P2P QSO Russ - nice going with your great set up 72. Paul W4LOO
Thanks for being out there. Always good to pick up a P2P. CUAGN 73
Russ thanks for posting this. I'm shortly getting licensed, it's good to just see how people set up and actually key it out vs what's on the computer.
Thanks for watching and good luck with getting licensed. Code on air is definitely different from the computer and I am far from perfect myself. 73’s
