Hello everyone, today I will explain and teach you how to Score thick paper or Boards as part of my Bookbinding Basics video series. To achieve a nice score you want the score to give you the fold you need without distorting or bending the material. you want a clear and visible edge. That is why you run your knife between 2/3 and 3/4 into the board. There are mostly 3 things you need to take in...
How to Crease Paper

Hello everyone, today I will explain and teach you how to Crease paper as part of my Bookbinding Basics video series. Folding and creasing paper are very similar things, a fold is made without the assistance of tools, and a crease is made with tools, usually a bonefolder, and will appear sharper than a fold. Folding paper with the grain is easier than against the grain. if you don't know what p...
Paper Grain Direction - Explained
Переглядів 3,1 тис.6 місяців тому
Hello everyone, today I will explain paper grain direction. Paper grain direction is a very basic and important thing to understand as bookbinders, printers, designers or anyone who works with paper and wants to create books and boxes, because every material we are going to use needs to be in the right grain direction. Parallel to the spine. When you buy paper you will find the term long grain ...

Acabo de descubrir el canal, estoy asombrada, alegre, anonadada, increíble... no encuentro palabra para tanta belleza en este arte. Gravias por compartir.❤
I am so glad you are enjoying the videos 😊
Best video I’ve seen on this topic thank u so much ! U saved me a ton !
I’m glad it was helpful! That’s exactly why I’m making these videos for, and now you’ve made my day 😊
This is an excellent example of how to make beautiful headbands. Thanks for sharing!
I am glad you enjoyed the video! Thank you for watching 🙏
Do you add the headband before or after rounding and backing?
Great question, after rounding and backing the book and before covering the spine. Thank you for watching
@ But doesn’t that mean that you must first glue up the spine? Doesn’t that make the process more difficult?
Yes you do round back and glue the spine. The headbands are going out of the signature where the kettle stitch is, so it is not difficult to penetrate with your needle. After finishing the headband, then you cover the spine towards the next step. I hope it’s clear now…
Thank you so much for teaching us. I try to do one next time. Can't wait to so the next variations.
You are so welcome! Do try it out, it really is an amazing addition to your binding skills. And I will work on another video soon…
Thank you Ido,it’s always nice to see your work and learn from you

Very interesting to see how the historical headbands are made. And of course you are right about meditation and making headbands. It's the same with stitching too. Thank you and have a nice year!

You're welcome 😊 Thank you for watching 🙏
I love your way to teach. I learnd so much... i got one question. Would this kind of bookbinding work with very thick paper about 600 g/m ? Should i do a fold like on the Cover?
Hi thank you for your kind words, about your question, 600 g is a bit thick. I would try creasing and if not, scoring. I have a video about scoring that you can watch. If you are not content with a result, try thinner paper for the covers. Enjoy the process…
@@idoAgassi thank you so much for the quick answer. Have some nice christmasdays.
Very nice wrapper. I've made similar but the triangles are a brilliant refinement. Thank you!

@idoAgassi Well then I'm looking forward to that too 🙂
Seeing you so much happy, proud and excited of your new setup is just 🎉👏🧡
Thank you so much 🤗
A pronunciation note, based on what my sensei taught me in college: instead of pronouncing "koki" like "cocky", the character/syllable 'ko' has more of a long 'o' sound. It's the same 'o' sound as in the words "hole" and "coal" and "no". Otherwise, your pronunciation was good!
Thanks for pointing that out, I'll try to improve my pronunciation in the next video 😊
To add a little more nuance, 康煕綴じ, which would normally be romanized "kouki toji", has a long first syllable in the western sense and the Japanese sense
תודה רבה עידו!
My pleasure, thank you for watching
Ido your accent is charming. You create beautiful work. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much for your kind words! ❤️
Υπέροχο ! ! !
Thank you for watching ❤️
Neat trick with the beginning of the sewing. I learned to start in the middle of the book block. I recently did a couple of poetry books containing haiku with that technique. I was using a japanese hole-screw-punch, which was a real hassle. Took a lot of time and strength. Not sure whether using an awl is much better. Next time I'm gonna use an electric screwdriver.
Thank you, I found out that for me starting in the middle of the book block wasn’t the way, so Im hiding the knot in the second hole. I do recommend to Try the awl and if not go electric ⚡️ Thanks for watching
Thank you Ido. A great tutorial, as always.

What kind of string do you use?
Hi, in this video I use cotton threads but I also use silk thread for Endbands… It depends on the project.
@idoAgassi I've been using silk thread but some products take 2 hours to sew in the end band, I've always wondered if there was a thicker thread that could help speed the process.
@ yes, Silk thread takes about twice the time… Try the cotton thread and see how you feel about them.I would love to hear your thoughts. Enjoy the process 😊
@@idoAgassi I'll give it a go, I have so many Christmas projects going right now! 😊
@@elizabethburchman3527 holiday season, the busiest time of the year… Enjoy
Excellent video, thank you! ❤ May I ask, what kind of weights are you using here and who (i.e. what sort of a craftsman) made them for you?
Hi, the weights are Brass weights and I found them in a metal supplier and asked them to cut different lengths. Thank you for asking and watching
