Nash Metropolitan 173mph in 7.94 Seconds.
Just happened on this video and saw the Burkholder Brothers AA/FA. The brothers were from Sacramento, CA and I watched them run many times at Sacramento Raceway more than a few years back. I don't know what the ownership of this car is now, but the brothers page on the Internet says they sold it in the early seventies.
A fuel altered is a SHORT wheelbase car
i live 45 minutes from the famoso track, always went to the march meets, great times !!
Great cackle !!
This is great
This is Pro Stock! When will NHRA get rid of the stupid blobs with a sticker on the front to tell us which brand it is and give us what we want?
The best part of drag racing in the 1960s and 70s was the variety of machines you saw, with these as great examples. You built your own car including designing and welding the frame. Today, and like NASCAR, most of the cars look the same except for paint schemes and you have a handful pro builders making them all for everyone. The uniqueness of it all is long gone. 😞 I lived a few miles from the now-long-gone Fremont strip in the late 1960s and in my head I can still hear the cars roaring in the far distance on weekends. According to Google Maps I lived only 1.99 miles from the timing light at the strip. You can still see the broken strip pavement and 180° turn-around point of the strip to the west and across the freeway from Tesla's factory on Google Earth if you select HISTORICAL IMAGERY in the VIEW menu and then move the timeline slider to 1993. A business called "Bloom energy building Bmcc" sits on the site now if that helps to find it. Another business campus labeled "Lam Research - CA9" almost overlaps the last turn-around of the track. The grass/dirt runway for the glider port that sat on the west side of the strip and angles off towards the bay but runs almost parallel with the drag strip is also visible in the 1993 imagery. Today in 2024 you can still spot the faintest traces of the U-shaped turn-around part of the track if you know where to look. The north end of the track area had been buit ober and the south half looks like it was allowed to return to bayside wetlands.

Great camera work
RIP Willie, Mousie, and Mike Boyd. No idea where the car is or who owns it
Kudos to whoever filmed this... The picture is perfect and the sound was excellent... Good job
Once upon a time a man said "Behold, I shall build a fuel car with a 1940's Fiat" The world laughed pointed and snicked at the man..... In his shop, after many months of grueling work, day and night, tormenting, welding, hammering, grinding and fitting, he declared "Behold, "The fuel car design that will live in infamy" The people fell to their knees, looked up to the man and said, "forgive us for doubting your wisdom, we have experienced the miracle" and so the 40's Fiat lives on, having a place in the history of man. The end
Look up a stock 40's Fiat image, their hideous.
I remember seeing these few altereds run in the '60s.. not these fuel altered.. but there is much fun to watch race now as they were back then... Wheelbases are a little longer.. but still fun to watch
Just not quite the same as the short wheelbase Fuel Altereds of old like Pure Hell.
I just can't help myself I absolutely love that sound.
Nothing like a fast hot rod and the smell of nitro and burnt rubber.
My options were .......big boobed girls in the mud....or here. You can tell I'm old.
Is that a Daimler 2.5l hemi V8 in that dragster??
Love this class! Hopefully they wont turn this class into another NHRA GM clone bubble car Prostock class.
I have such a love for these cars they smell different they sound different and they still peel the rubber off them slick.
Factory X could have been the class to save the NHRA, not! Why, they already have stacked the deck. Ford and Mopar run 1 kind of supercharger, while the CLOPO runs a different one. Mopar and GM run the BB 427 7 liter, Ford runs the 5.4 liter. Ford was made to run a supercharger and switch from the turbo set up. NHRA has lost almost 2/3 of their fans for favoring certain teams and Brands. Guess they haven't learned much, I quit going 20 years ago.
You should familiarize yourself with the class before you start crying foul. Out of all the current Camaros, only one runs an engine larger than 350ci, and it’s only 363ci. Mopar runs the 354 Hemi and the Ford camp does not run the 5.4L, they run the dual overhead cam Coyote motor, which is an advantage the Mopars and Chevy don’t have. This was at the Las Vegas race two weeks ago so current setups.
@@croozin2 I don't know what you are reading. I read the rule book. So before you start, ask a question. My comment stands. Plus, I also spoke personally to some who are in the class. You better tell them they got it wrong. And Bro the 5.4 is a DOHC.

I love the Bob Glidden paint on the stang!
WAY better than pro stock , REAL bodies REAL wheelbase , Chevy's in Chevy's , Fords in Fords ...I'm thinking this is named wrong pro stock is more like factory experimental and factory X is WAY more stock ... MUCH MORE LIKE WHAT PRO STOCK USED TO BE !

Chicken shit with the political flag.... YOU LOST!
Nanook was havin a bad day.
Reminds me as a kid seeing James Warren win a bunch of these, 😊
This is exciting! Waaay better than pro stock!!!

AMAZING footage bro, you should have like 300k views on this !!!!!!! Keep shooting like this bro & you will hit 1k subscribers very soon.
Thankyou for the comments. Its not bad. Always room for improvement. haha
AWESOME footage, Great job filming 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thankyou. You keep up the good work also.
Love the videos from previous years. My dad ran in the 7.0 class. Awesome to watch
Great video, keep pushing you will hit 1K subscribers soon 🙏🔥🔥🔥
I Love the "Awful awfuls"! I've been a fan since the 60's. The modern technology and longer wheelbase does seem to make them more "manageable" No doubt they're STILL a Handful!
Its good to watch both versions although I do prefer the 60s early 70s ones. The longer wheelbases were around in the mid 70s onwards which are still cool.
Nice
Looks like their will be more cars that are/being built.
Pro mods the best class drag racing 💪💪
These are NOT fuel altereds....they ARE funny cars without a body.....only three could qualify for a AA/FA....Godzilla, sheepherder to plan A
I do prefer the vintage style fuel altered. Some decent ones being built at the moment/recently. Pure Hell was running 5s a while back and still looked to have more left!!
Yup long wheel bases so huge difference in the way it handles..old school short wb altered will always be a crowd favorite..like 1/4 mile racing..I dont keep up with or go to races anymore because of the 1,000 foot bs..
People, teams on a budget make the show fun and exciting. The deep pocket guys drive the low buck budget guys out and lobby for rule changes to make changes to change the cars go faster but also increase the cost This is why the best years of nostalgia were the begining years. Nothing wrong with a fuel car then running 6.50 - 7 second times with updated safety requirements but keeping with the 60' 70's look and spirit including the CHOICE to wear a breather mask like many did. Look at a AA/FD from 1990-2005 and now. With the slower times came affordability until the abominations crept in and took over. Now it's big show wannabees that have brought in computers and high tech modern B S......😡
Excellent videography 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Quite a few 335mph runs over the event.
How come the 20 gallon nostalgia top fuelers get to run a 44 mag, but the nostalgia fuel funnies don't ?
Wish these nostalgia funnies had 35 gallon pumps like their cousins in Australia. Then you would hear real thunder and see big header flames !! Be nice to see deep, smoky burnouts, too !!
I think they are running 5.20s/30s over there. I agree its a great form of nostalgia racing. They have got them running quick. Up to 280mph!
@@fastracingandhotrods6891 Didn't realize they were running that quick and that fast in Australia ! That is cool. Love to see that here in the states.
@@ScottCole-sb8fy I don't know the exact numbers but think they have run near those times.
@@fastracingandhotrods6891 Not just trying to be critical, but the 21 gallon nostalgia funnies here in the U.S.A. are boring. No smoky burnouts, no header flames, no thunder etc.
@@ScottCole-sb8fyI know what you mean. Australian style rules where they could run quicker. A traditional funnycar category would be good with no wind tunnel type bodies allowed also.
These cars still have a subtle "coolness" to them. Cooler than big show funnies by a mile !
Still a #1 bucket list can't think of anything more crazy than this 😮
Definitely was a great event. Decent turn out of cars.
Hey Everyone, have a Nitro Happy New Year, I love it all. Make it a good one!
Racing should be good!
A AA/FA VS AA/FR the R stands for roadster
This true but most people consider the roadsters as altered
Super video , Thank you for this gem 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🙏🙏🙏🙏
Entertaining racing!
Another great upload! Nice steady camerawork. Was it shot on a tripod?
Thank you. I think it came out quite well. No tripod was used I was just holding a camera.
NOSTALGIA RULES! Over NHRA big show! 330 mph is cool. BUT give me 1/4 mile with a variety of cars. Were everyone does"nt have to be a BILLONAIRE to run one!
Its great. What would make it even better for me is if the rules stated the Funnycars had to run period correct bodies from the 1960s/70s with small adjustments only. I agree, the modern racing has gone past the realms of reality. I think these still are expensive but nothing like the Big Show.
Killer!
Love to listen to these hot rods!
Nitro fuel Altereds oh Yeah.
