The Byrds was a band that diminished a little with each departure of an original member. Another example is Procol Harum.
RIP Geno. "No Other"
In the book Mr Tambourine Man it was said Gene Clark witnessed a plane crash at 14 years old in Bonner Springs
Which of Gene's brothers is this?💖

Shame this documentary isn’t more widely available. I have the DVD. Top notch, considering there isn’t much top notch video footage out there and I’m sure that there wasn’t a lot of money involved in the production. Truly, a labor of love.
Too weak to live. Sad.
This doc needs to be posted on youtube for the public. Kind of ridiculous how inaccessible it is.
Byrds managers Dickson and Tickner were aware of the friction that the disparity of income was causing and proposed sharing publishing with the group members, which never happened. Meanwhile, they are taking 25 percent.
Them birds in London are fond and very close to them Byrds that was from America !
Sid had a very diplomatic way of saying Crosby was an egotistical asshole, and he and Jim/Roger couldn’t handle being lesser songwriters than Gene. Not to mention, he was the best looking. Crosby is a great harmony vocalist and that’s about it. His ego in the 60’s was gross
Got no time for Crosby's comments about Gene . Disingenuous.
Gene punched out RSOs promotion man. Not a great way to have a relationship with your record company.
Self-sabotage was his strong suit
Clark and T.J. Kaye spent $50,000 to produce 8 tracks...nuch of the money was spent on 'entertainment', like Sly Stones stash. Asylum and Geffen expected more for their investment.
I think this is one of the worst trailers I have ever seen. Over stylized and shows nothing about what the viewer is about to see. I'll pass on ever seeing this. Fail.
Please help me find this amazing DVD, The Byrd Who Flew Alone. I have been searching for years and still don't have it. Please leave me a reply here so I can contact you. Thank you so much
gene Clark doc
As of now I haven't been able to find this documentary anywhere, was it ever released on dvd? Where can I find it?
We put it out on DVD in 2013, but sold out last year. Copies come up occasionally on eBay and Amazon Marketplace. Hope you manage to find one. We're trying to get it onto one of the streaming platforms, but no luck yet.
When is this ever gonna stream?
We've been trying for the past couple of years. But all the main streaming platforms don't take individual submissions - just bundles from distributors or studios. We've had conversations with all the distributors of music docs, on both sides of the Atlantic. All of whom express initial enthusiasm, then disappear when they realise the cost of relicensing all the music and archive material in the film. Any suggestions welcome.
@@paulkendall1285can you put it on UA-cam with a rental fee?
Gene Clark..legend..rip
"Got off the plane" crosby is so dramatic 😃
I had the extreme good fortune to see Gene with Carla Olsen in LA, warming up for Dwight Yoakam. As a huge Byrds fan, I was standing about 3 feet from the stage and marveling at how good he and Carla were, and yes, they did a couple of old Byrds songs, along with most of the material from their great, So Rebellious a Lover album. It is still one of the highlights of my concert-going days.
That's a wonderful album they did together. One of my treasures!
This doc needs to be made available through streaming. I'm in my 20's and just discovered Gene Clark entirely by accident and I feel like so many people of my generation could benefit from hearing his story and his music. If relicensing is an issue, why not start a Gofundme or something similar? I'm sure his fans would like to help.
if they no longer sell the dvd, why not release it on youtube so we can see the whole thing?
Because all the record labels and publishing companies, who own the rights to the 40+ songs in the film, would want a shedload of money to let us do that.
Where the hell can i watch this?
Sadly we sold out of the DVD a few months back and our efforts to get the film streamed have been foiled by the cost of relicensing all the music and archive material in it. Your best bet is to keep an eye on eBay and/or Amazon Marketplace. Copies of the DVD crop up there from time to time.
@Musical Box Because the owners of all the copyright material in the filn - songs, photos, film clips etc - would expect us to pay for streaming rights.
It's my understanding that this (sadly) now-extinct DVD will remain so due to the prohibitively high cost of relicensing the music for another production run. I'm utterly against piracy, but I can understand the exasperation of folks who would love to buy this DVD from Four Suns, but cannot do so because it's simply unavailable, in turn because the up front music licensing cost makes no economic sense. What a shameful condition. The IMDB pages for the DVD reveal the principal culprits: Sony Music UK, Universal Music UK, Warner Music UK - who have bought up the rights to songs they didn't write, while the composers are getting a pittance...if anything. These corporate vultures couldn't care less about the content they control; they're only in it for the moneyi. It's all perfectly legal...which is a sad commentary on a culture that has declined to the point wherein what is legal has nothing to do with what is right. Actually, it's not even rational. Rather than make _some_ money, they will deny producers like Paul Kendall the ability to sell DVDs, and so they make zero money. A graduated licensing fee, indexed to total sales, would be the way to go...but evidently such a solution escapes their imagination. They want big buck$, up front. It's an injustice to everyone, especially the musicians. If there ever were proof that the political state achieves the opposite of what real government should do, there it is. It's legal, but it's not justice.
Sadly you're right Vito. It's also been thwarting our efforts to get the film onto a streaming platform (Netflix, Amazon Prime etc). You need to do that through a distribution company of some sort. We've spoken with many, on both sides of the Atlantic, nearly all of whom express initial enthusiasm, only to go very quiet when they realise how much music would need to be licensed from the big corporations.
@@foursunsproductions916 Yep...exactly as I suspected. I do understand that these mega-corporations have (in most cases) invested large sums in advance for the controlling rights of variouis artists' catalogs, in anticipation of long-term returns. But I fully expect that they have insulated themselves behind a wall of paperwork that provides little of the flexibility needed for low-dollar-volume users to have any access at all. I have dealt with this issue in the past, but the licensor was a relatively small operation that was open to a proposal for graduated compensation, which would have been very lucrative for both sides if sales grew, but still remained profitable at the lower initial sales volume after product release, before its market increased. It was a win-win for all concerned. Alas, humongous corporations seldom demonstrate that kind of flexibility, an obstacle that is compounded by the number of musical properties involved, and the multiplicity of licensors. As a content producer, I can relate to the sense of frustration Four Suns Productions must feel... ...but as a composer/musician, I feel an additional level of exasperation born of empathy for the plight of so many artists who were persuaded to give up the rights to their own creations, which have been sold and re-sold like so much cattle, ending up in the hands of the highest bidders. The concept that "authorship confers ownership" has been subverted, and no one wins.
Gene Clark of the Byrds was miles ahead of most other singer/ songwriters back in the day...
You are delusional
No he wasn’t. There were many great ones
can anyone upload the Wole thing for me to see please
Booze and Pills are a bad cocktail!! Had Clark lived to Sinatra's age think of all the wonderful music we would have heard!!
your website doesn't work.
The unseen footage most certainly remains unseen on this trailer.

it's amazing how Crosby can always come off like an asshole no matter what he does.
Great interview. Thanks. Seems natural that the great Gene Clark moved on to a solo career not really fitting in with the Byrds very experimental psycadelic space rock at the time. Check out the great Gary Usher Byrds interviews on UA-cam for more about Gene and his first album.
But what led up to his decision to leave the plane? The continual petty quarrelling in the Byrds was a defining factor combined with the facts that his guitar playing was taken from him, his lead singer status was taken from him and that he was prevented from including more of his superior compositions on the third album because of jealousies in the group.
The Byrds were nothing near the Beatles. They selected the Byrds because they knew they couldn't compete. Sure, the Byrds did some great songs (sometimes written by others), but the Beatles knew they'd go country soon and not be competitive. Same thing with Paul and The Beach Boys. Paul knew Brian Wilson was destined to be laying in bed a lot. True Stories.
The Byrds were a really good Band. To bad Crosby turned out to be such a tool.
Both pretty dumb comments... I’m sure you are the arbiter of all rock, but still pretty dumb!
YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT.....
Oh, the child who still thinks the beatles matter is gonna preach to us.
The creative musical talents of both Arthur Lee and Billy Corgan make McCartney look like a very small, bite-size genius indeed. Rock music's continuing evolution has spoken.
No mention of Gene Clarks first great album on CBS produced by Gary Usher ?
And Larry Marks.
@@thomasrobinson182 Right, Larry started it and Gary came in and finished it, a real easy going gem.
