It's been 3 years, and I am not able to find part 2. Was there ever a part 2? The reason Commodore did it this way, is that it is much better. By letting the SID handle all the timing critical processing in hardware, we save a lot of CPU time. Also, programming for the mouse is much easier, since all we have to do is to read the SID registers, in stead of having to responding to the quadrature signals with microsecond precision. So, they figured out a way to use the SID as mouse interface hardware. Simply brilliant!
