I am now a Set Dancer but raised as a Ceili Dancer---15yrs---20 plus yrs Set Dancing.. I teach the sets and play recorded music and occasionally play mixed Ceili's---sure I remember many of the Ceili dances with a little review ( I'm 75) and when Ceili dances are on the card such as the Rakes Of Mallow, Bridge of Athlone, 16 HR, I go on to UTUBE to find a CLEAR example of them---thanks so much for your school demonstrating the Rakes so clearly
I know I am over a decade late, but Wow! My students are going to do a very simplified dance to Rakes of Mallow this month, and I hope to show this to them afterward so they can appreciate true Irish dancing. Thank you for sharing!
As an Irish Dance teacher, I can tell you this-- if I want to tune out music, I absolutely can. All I hear is the beat. The song itself doesn’t exist. 😂

Oops. When the gent turned to the lady on his right they danced away from the group instead of into the group. Hook elbows in the middle after that. Otherwise, very nice.
It seems, that "right version" depends on your commission, your school and you teacher :) IMHO, figures should be the same, and differences in threes are allowed.
Hey I have a question. Is this the right version of the four hand reel? I always learned the dance with front-threes instead of skip-threes and back-threes...
Myself and my friends in my dancing class are doing this dance but you are so brushed up in this I can't believe it how long have you been learning this
"slip sides" should begin with the gent taking right hands with the lady on his right and sidestepping to the gents left, ending with threes. When the gent returns he turns to the lady on his left and repeats the movement, only sidestepping to his right. The free ladies sidestep to the right and left, then left and right. It should remain in a square. "Gents in the Center", gents should be linking right arms for four bars, then linking left arms for four bars.
