Slab Crappies and big bass on Newton Lake IL
That isn’t lake monroe
Indiana
See you there
Wonder if they hav Italian sausage again..
Lots of good water down there Tom. The canal that runs by Rum Runner is good and is easy to access by kayak if you're in that area. Enjoy the sunny weather!
I appreciate the tip, I'll have to check it out next time.
If you were to fish at Newton for crappie, without electronics (at all), what would you recommend? Style, presentation, colors. I have a kayak, no electronics. Will be going there in the next month. Edit - the banter between you two is phenomenal!!
Sorry for the late response. I would hit the main lake points with a bobber and jig. Don’t be afraid to try 1.5-3’ deep.
@ No problem! Thank you!!

Good morning ! Tom. What are the size and name and power of that spinning rod that you was using in this UA-cam video and how much it cost for that spinning rod please. And what are the name and size and color fishing line you was using also in this UA-cam video please. How was your Christmas and New Year’s fine I hope. You’re my favorite crappie magnet crappie UA-camr. I can’t wait to see you do a crappie catch and cook UA-cam video from your home with your wife in the kitchen please 🙏
Good morning. I was using the B’n’M Sams Super Salt spinning rod with a swim bait don’t know the name with 14lb fluorocarbon line. We enjoyed our Christmas and New Year’s in Cape Coral and now back in Indiana buried in snow. lol.
Hello ! Tom . Is that spinning rod a medium light 7 foot 1-pc spinning rod are a medium 7 foot 1- pc spinning rod . Please answer this question please because I want to buy me that spinning rod you’re using in this UA-cam video and how much it cost also please 🙏
What’s up ! Tom. I need this question answer please. I need to know is that spinning rod a medium light power are a medium power spinning rod you’re using in this video please 🙏
@ medium
@@timothythomas38207’ one piece and you can get it at BnM.com
Always wear a safety vest, because you just never know!!!
Nice but I sure wish you all had on a life vest. I good friend of mines drown and he was a lifeguard! 😢 Be careful buddy and have fun. Chase that dolphin down, lol 😆
You’re right I should’ve had mine on. At least in the area where the current was flowing. I need to be better about that. Typically here in Indiana when the water is cold I wear my life vest every time.
@ yes sir. I am always looking for the safety of people on the water especially people I consider friends. So you are one of them, 😁. Plus being a chaplain with DNR has really open my eyes to how fast people can get in trouble in the water and some don’t even survive. Much love and respect to you my friend!
It's 3 degrees here in Indiana currently😀
Best fisherman I’ve ever seen on Myakka River.
Are ya Busy lol
Hey Tom, I've had gators go under my boat before. Kind of scary!! I was in Pine Grove maybe a week and a half ago. Crappie everywhere in the channel and on the creek edges. Nice snooks!!
Thanks for watching. I couldn’t imagine how scary that would be. I missed out on some of the best crappie fishing on Monroe but I enjoyed the heck out of Florida.
Hi Tom! Sun who lives in Indiana and watch you on Monroe. I’m in Okeechobee right now and see you’re in Florida. How cool is that?
Okeechobee should be on fire right now. Hope you are catching some slabs. Thanks for watching
you sure aren't missing much in Indiana weather wise😆
Are you fishing structure or chasing open water roaming fish?
We done both. Mostly open water though
I live close to Rend, fished here my whole life...i love slaying the crappie here....many days catching my limit of fat slabs. Crappie and catfishing can't be beat.
Thanks for the video Tom. It brought a tear to my eye. My dad retired from Allison's at age 50 and spent the next 28 years fishing every day he could. We spent lots of time on Monroe, but he lived on the west side of Eagle Creek, so we fished there a lot (there's actually a memorial to my dad at the main ramp). I've fished every stick up, brush pile and stretch of bank where you and the boys caught those fish in the video. Nice mess of crappie! Glad you to see you making memories with your son.
I have worked at Allisons since 2011. It's always neat finding a local fishing channel. Grew up fishing eagle creek reservoir with my grandpa. We never had a boat and always bank fished. Great memories. Bought a tandem kayak last year and looking forward to making some memories with my nine year old this year on eagle creek.
great videos ,what livescope transducer pole do you use thanks
Its a Railblaza.. Overpriced but it works well. Thanks for watching
Tom did you cut two seat pedestals into the deck of your Ranger?… i have wanted to but scared to drill the holes in my 520..:(
Sorry i just saw the pedestal at floor level.. thanks
Guess what I'm going to do at least I'm going to try catch a crappie without no plastic on the jig head
Thx Tom, appreciate the video!!
Thanks for watching
I need a tip from you in a bad way. When you get out there, are you just trolling around til you find one, do you look for structure, or ???. You seem to have it together and I seem not to. Great video!
Hey thanks for the question. Yes when I get on the water I simply put the trolling motor down and start scanning with the live scope. I might go 200 yds and if I don’t see any good fish I’ll pick up and run a little ways and repeat until I find the better fish. Once I locate a good fish I’ll slow down and scan the area
Hello ! Mr. Tom. I just got the B’n’m 8 foot Russ Bailey 2- pc spinning rod . I will be doing nothing but casting from the bank for crappies. I have money to buy me three packs of crappie magnets split tails bodies which three colors you would recommend me to get buy please. Sometimes the water is light stain are stain and sometimes it’s muddy. Please pick me two shad colors and two muddy water colors please 🙏 I’m praying that you answer my questions 👍
I would recommend the Black and Pink, Black and Chartreuse, gun metal
Great video 🎣
Thanks for watching!
Very nice crappies are those 10 1/2 ft Russ Bailey or 10 ft
Yes they are. My favorite for bobber fishing and live scope fishing
Lake Monroe where? There’s like 4. Those are really nice fish though, keep it up!
Bloomington Indiana. Thanks for watching
Catch'em up Tom!
Thanks for watching
Great video Tom, do you recall what the water temp was, I apologize if you covered this within the video.
It was 66-68 degrees. Thanks for watching
What seat mount are you running on the front Tom?
I have the Cumberland Crappie double down
Great video as usual Tom!
Glad you enjoyed it thanks for watching
Love the videos Tom. Do you guide on Monroe? Do you give lessons on using livescope?
I don’t guide fishing trips anymore but I have given live scope lessons in the past. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Been doing good on crappie with road runner and zman shade fry
Hard to beat a road runner. Thanks for watching
Maiden voyage to Monroe this weekend. Not sure where im gonna start. Livescope will find the way.
As you seen in this video you can catch them right by the ramp. They are pretty much all over the lake just have to hunt a little
I have got to figure out the bobber fishing. That looks like a real fun way of catching them. Great video, thanks for sharing your information.
Thanks for watching
Thanks Tom, for the great tips! I've been fishing west of the causeway and have been doing well with crappie magnets, joker bodies in chartreuse and white. These were 12-13 inches in 7-9 feet on Oct 9th. I use crappie nibbles as well. I have heard of some big catches back in that area you were at. Someone told me about a 3 something from back in there. That would be very nice! Keep on fishing!
Thanks for watching and sharing your experience
When you’re fishing in that shallow of water, I have an extremely hard time figuring out the settings on my Scope… can you help me with how you set up your scope when targeting super shallow water fish?
Whenever I’m fishing shallow I keep the depth set at 9’ on the Garmin so it doesn’t get blurry. Also the gain usually needs turned down some.
What is that seat base?
Thats a Cumberland Crappie double down
Those were stud crappie, what a day! No size limit where I live, but my self-imposed slot limit is 9"-14". Fried up a pile yesterday😊
Yeah we don’t Have a size limit either it’s just a self imposed like you have. Thanks for watching and your comment.
Since they say crappie only bout 7 years doesn't it make since to keep some big ones or they might just die of old age?
The fish I released are probably 5 years old and they can live 10+ years if they aren’t harvested first or killed by a predator. I just know that selective harvesting will help the population of big fish in which we all enjoy catching. Thank you for watching and your comment I appreciate it
I'll take a few of those size at the Veterans tournament this Saturday!
Good stuff man!
Is that Delaware lake Ohio
No that’s Lake Monroe Indiana. Thanks for watching
I see you have 2 live scope on your boat
Yeah I like two because it allows for us to each have our own to use and it gives us a different angle to see the fish better
Where can i buy these baits locally?
I’m not sure but you can definitely get them online at crappie magnet
What jigs are you using?
I cover everything I used at the end of the video. Skip to the end and you will see exactly what I used. Thanks for watching
Very nice crappies
That catfish almost yank you out your kayak 😂
Hahaha I know right. It’s always fun catching bigger fish in a Kayak
Are you on the slow side? How close to cutright were you fishing?
I was in the slow side of the lake. The fast side can get to be a little dangerous in a kayak. I launched from the pine grove ramp.
