Boakibanbaa
"Boakibanbaa" is a celebration of creativity and tradition, inspired by a traditional sport once played by both women and men during Eid. Known as "Boakibaa foruvun," this game marked the beginning of Eid celebrations.
On the first morning of Eid, women would rise early to prepare "Eid Boakibaa," a special traditional snack for breakfast. Meanwhile, the men would attempt to steal these treats from the kitchens where the women hid them. If the women successfully brought the Boakibaa to breakfast, they won; otherwise, the men would triumph by stealing and eating the snacks.
This song beautifully captures the essence of women's Boakibanbaa. It tells the story of Kanbulo, a five-year-old girl experiencing her first Boakibanbaa. Her sisters teach her all the activities involved, from making the Boakibaa to protecting it from the men of the island, through poetry and joyful celebrations.
The song is inspired by "Boakibaa Bandhi," a traditional poetry sung by women during Boakibanbaa. This poetry serves to keep their spirits high and motivation strong.
This is just the first battle of Boakibanbaa, and the men will continue their playful attempts to win until sunrise.
Vocal: Mariyam Ashfa
Melody and Lyrics: Abdulla Shahid (Teddy)
Music production: Ehkaafu Studio (Munaz)
Videography and Editing: Ibrahim Sujau (Junky)

Instead, she devoted herself to aiding vulnerable women on the island, offering them refuge and care. Within Valhugan’duvaru, every woman is either a widow, a survivor of domestic abuse, or someone w...

“Koadi" is a story about celebration, fun, happiness, love, and friendship, as well as competition, jealousy, betrayal, and sorrow. When a visitor named "Noohu" from a neighboring island visits on the occasion of Eid, he falls in love with a beauty named "Kaiydha" at first glance. Noohu tries to win Kaiydha's heart, but she doesn't show any interest in Noohu because he is a stranger. According to her dearest friend "Amina," who had a bad experience in her past life by trusting a stranger, Kaiydha's feelings are for Noohu's friend "Yahuya." "Koadi Ken'dun" is a sport played during Eid celebrations in the Maldives. A creatively made and decorated "Koadi" is hidden by the men of the island to be found by the women. When the women can't find the hidden Koadi, they seek help from a man. This is the opportunity for the man to fulfill his demands. These kinds of sports are taken very seriously, and they become a competition among women who are ready to do anything and everything to win. All of a sudden, Kaiydha receives a note from her beloved Yahuya, asking her to meet him and take away the Koadi. On the other side, Noohu also receives a note from his dearest friend Yahuya, mentioning that Kaiydha wants to meet him. With high hopes of winning both the competition and her lover's heart, Kaiydha goes to Yahuya, and Noohu does the same, filled with excitement. Since Kaiydha was there to get the Koadi, unaware of any notes and with lust in his heart, Yahuya tries to fulfill his demands from Kaiydha. Her dreams are shattered when she realizes it was a trick, and the Koadi was already taken by "Sanfa," who is also madly in love with Yahuya. Noohu has to witness his friend's betrayal, which shatters his heart into pieces, making him no longer interested in Kaiydha. It was too late when Kaiydha turned to Noohu. But if Yahuya had not sent the notes, then who could have dared to do it? Why would anyone do something like that? Watchill the end!

Dhonhiyala has been a mother, a sister, and a friend to these women, empowering them to be resilient and engaged. This musical presentation depicts a typical day in Valhugan’duvaru, showcasing how Dhonhiyala and her courageous companions protect and support a victim of domestic abuse. The cycle of domestic violence can be broken by taking a stand against it, starting with ensuring the safety of women within their own homes. Here's to the indomitable spirit of women everywhere!
