You sound a littke bit like alexander j newall
Incredible research and commentary as per usual.
Thanks for the support!
Unreal video mate, fantastic work
Thanks mate!
Fantastic work, there's always something new to learn about Koudelka and you did a great job keeping that true
@@MrPopzicle Thank you! It was such a unique experience.
mister you deserved a lot more os suscribers
That means a lot! Happy to be putting something out, and even if one person out there appreciates it then it's worth it :)
Excellent video. It’s always wonderful to see Koudelka getting some love and appreciation. :)
Thank you! It really blew me away when I played it. Definitely up for a replay soon!
Retro is like 25+
Absolutely! Was in reference to a community member playing Suikoden in his leather chair.
Nice video thanks
Best girl
Legit just did a video on Suikoden 2 and nostalgia! The whole series is such a nostalgic trip down memory lane. Suikoden 1's soundtrack is causes so much emotion! Great video.
@@mbrasier oh no way! Awesome! Totally agree with the soundtrack.
I actually don't know.
Gender fluidity? You’re reading too much into this through a “modern” lense. Milich and Vincent were probably gay.
Suikoden 2 is prob in my top 3 JRPGs games of all time and your voice is chef’s kiss - ez sub
@@XChronicHash Definitely in the top 10 for me now! And thanks for the kind words! I’ve always been a bit self conscious about my voice so this means a lot!
Easy sub. Great video.
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it. Hoping to get my next video out in the next month!
A masterpiece like this, must go on. Still curious about 27 True Runes.
Agreed! I actually just finished Suikoden III last night. Very excited for IV next!
@@MemoryCarp Okay, keep it up! Actually the correct timeline is IV-V-I-II-III, according to Suikoden calendar. but since you already played it half-way, just go continue.
Yoshitaka Murayama(consep & director), Junko Kawano(designer & artist) and Miki Higashino(music composer),in my opinion its the heart of Suikoden,i hope the dream could continue...
Totally agree. Absolute dream team!
Miki higashino was the soul of Suikoden
@@StewNWT its so true, she was drain all her tears and blood to make Suikoden II music composition, that so memorable to me personaly, the Celtic vibe, the chase, gothic neclord, i wish she will come back sometime in the future, i wish...
@@StewNWT Completely agree. The OST is burned into my brain.
Nice retrospective vid, can't agree more on how much of an impact this game has in the JRPG community. Music was great, world and story was designed to feel like a large scale epic. Can't wait for these remasters coming out! I hope more ppl keep this series talked about so we can more games like them
I’ve no doubt the remasters will also bring in a new wave a appreciators to the series. I hope they remain faithful!
Excellent retrospective!
@@Wandalynn10 Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it.
i love the wild arms cuts. showing the book from the intro for it was 🤌
You already know!
Ride the hype train my guy! im obviously here for it!
LOVING IT
Thanks for the nostalgia!
So much! Even for a game I've never played before. The OST is a really special thing.
Very nice retrospective! Didn't know about the 108 outlaws story from the 1300's 📝
Yeah The Water Margin connection is very interesting!
PERSON OF LORDLY CALIBER!!!
Dino crisis 2?
@@onetwokaafour dino crisis 1
@@MemoryCarp yeah, makes sense. I don't remember seeing this scene in Dino crisis 2 and Regina is there in 1 as well as 2.
It would've been so funny if the game was called Unicorn Ogrelord
I for one welcome our new Unicorn Ogrelords
That was the final boss malaria mosquito and she got hit with that 30%+ poison damage
Easter eggs, can’t have a game without them
In your mom
Ahh Suikoden 2! Best JRPG ever made
It meant dueling yall are too dirty minded
I agree it is definitely one of the best tactics strategy rpgs ever. Its battle system is simple and genius at the same time. I love the storyline and characters. The myriad of different choicest and how just changing out any one thing can completely change the dynamic. And hiw you set the powers to work with characters abilities and equipment. I am hopelessly addicted to it and messing around with different strategies. One area where it could improve is having more options in customization of basic recruits and adding in a real time events with battles to allow you to fully experience the combat. Otherwise its amazing. It's definitely up there with ff tactics.
Fully agree, but glad you're having a blast with this amazing game!

Cornia is getting corny 😂😂
I'm pretty sure you're supposed to push the door OPEN, but i guess that works too...
It works from the other side too!
Will say about the localization and personality thing; Played whole game from English on Expert, now relaying the game again on True Zenoiran with Japanese, from their voice and delivery of dialogue, it does seem like they changed some dynamics and personality of characters. Like Lex and Chloe reference each other when they level up. Chloe and Monica seemingly changed personalities (Chloe being a bit tomboyish in EN but girlier in JP and Monica being more prideful in EN but softer in JP.). I don't know Japanese, so I don't know what they're actually saying, but just from how they speak alone seems to be a personality change. I don't doubt they change some of the endings either considering some endings like the angels pretty much say "We will be married" in their marriage proposals (Rite scene) but in their endings they flat out just don't marry and prioritize Scarlet. This isn't anything on the game ofc, it's still a very fun game (Hence I'm replaying it.). It just feels a bit off thinking/feeling (Not "knowing".) that some things are changed from what the JP intended.
This is super interesting! I guess it's inevitable to have some differences here and there, but I actually enjoy the elevated dialogue to be honest.
For me personally, I think the story is clear and simple. Objectives are clear. Lots of character interactions. Combat can get easy but it was fun scrapping builds and trial and error new comps. I absolutely loved this game!
Totally agree with the combat! My favourite part was building units, not necessarily the fighting itself.
Just subscribed, good content mate, I wish you success 🤘
Awesome dude!
This game is probably my biggest disappointment so far this year. Looks pretty, but an incredibly dull story and characters. Combat was also pretty easy even on the hardest difficulty
I agree the weakest aspect is its story. It’s not terrible though, and certainly has a good drive to it.
Had to force myself to stop playing in order to have lunch! It’s like they put a bunch of SRPGs together and in turn created something entirely new.. The gameplay is most reminiscent of Fire Emblem tho.. What I like about it although I’m only like 12 hrs in is it’s very challenging but seems to be forgiving at the same time .. IDK if it’s the best of the genre but it appears pretty damn close
It’s so addictive right! So many late night sessions.
@@MemoryCarp Always said great SRPGs are best for long rainy nights but here I am playing quarter after 4 pm on a clear day!
The answer is no. Final Fantasy Tactics still holds that title all these years later.
I got far, but never finished it. I agree it’s the best I’ve played outside of Unicorn Overlord.
Tactics is so easy to break though. But the story is far superior.
Fell out of love with FF a while ago….i think I need to give this a try
8:08 Correction: Princess Crown, 1997 for the Sega Saturn
I looked into Princess Crown! While it is 2D, it lacks the “painterly” art style that I was referencing. I would still like to play it one day to see Vanillaware’s true roots!
i really hope they bring this to pc. i really really really wanna play this
Knowing Atlus you might be waiting a while!
What game?
Sand Land!
Thx
She deadass said "guess the kingdom is mine then lol" Worth, honestly
Its a great game and I think that is underrated or unkown for most "gamers"
Totally agree!
No it's so easy to win and damage check. They said they ran out of money so it makes sense that all the enemies use basic equipment and basic ai. I put it down after the desert fight cause i got over leved defeating the infinite units with ease, i used the trebuchet once and gained so many level then immedietly stopped using it. Doubt ill pick it up again unless they have an update for it. The most fun I had was after that fight I chose to hire units slightly under leveled untill I reached a point where main quest is above my lvl. I used no uniques and it was a fun challenge. Unfortunately I didn't buy the game to not use main characters and miss dialogue. So I dropped it after that. What happened to games especially strategy being challenging? I'd rather play total Warhammer 2 than breeze through this game.
Fair enough! I bumped up the difficulty which definitely helped! Maybe you were just very good at unit formations! :D
You played on the wrong difficulty homie
@@Jabberwokee played on expert while limiting myself in many ways because otherwise it's too easy. Ppl who are critical have talked about the difficulty of TZ. It's a fact that the player has lots of advantages while the enemies have little to none. If they just made fights better with slight ai change but most important equipment changes then the game would be a lot better.
Is Age of Wonders or Heroes of Might and Magic a TRPG?
Oh my god Unicorn Overlord content my day is saved- It’s the funniest thing cause I got the demo for about 7 hours thinking wtf I’m gonna give up after 3 probably… I didn’t. I’m now on 6 hours sleep and 43 hours in
Once it gets its hooks in you it's hard to stop playing!
Man, I want to play it really badly... but first I have to finish Trails to Azure...
@@jogymogy3691 Do it! You wont be disappointed!
Great review! Loved hearing contextual reference to the wider genre throughout.
Thank you good sir! Glad you enjoyed it.
