Trialling some new products in the Fish Room, floating breeding tubes for the Guppies
Trialling some new items for the Guppies, these breeder tubes are around $4 they float instead of suction caps like some other products. I will set up several and see how they go and see if we can get some fry, will put out an update video once I have tested them.for a while to see if they are worth using or not.

      @Fin2FinAquariums legend. I hope they work well. My fish are dropping anywhere between 10 to 30ish fry, so I'm hoping they work well before I order a few. Also, did you have to insulate that fish room at all? I'm contemplating using my garage here in WA, but it's west facing and the Summer heat is too much at the moment. Looking to insulate, but trying to get some advice from a pro!

    G'day mate, that looks like it is working really well for you! What a good solution! Gotta love Temu for these sort of things - the quality is variable, but at the prices you gotta give it a shot! Love your set up, very well organized and clean. Those Peacocks you have are what I would call “Mutt” peacocks. They are the kind you see at shops that don’t specialize in African cichlids. They are probably 100% Aulonocara but not any recognized variant. When you buy any African cichlid it’s important to get the Scientific name and if possible variant or location and not mix them. Aulonocara are great fish to keep, I would look at getting a new colony. If you want to get some Labidochromis caeruleus from Lion’s Cove (aka Electric Yellow)it is always a safe bet if you’re breeding for profit. You need to pay attention to the quality of the fish. Yellow labs could be the most numerous African cichlid in the hobby and there are a lot of poor quality fish out there. The German strains tend to have the best color. Thanks for the video.

      @markusdesilva8703 thanks mate, great question I reckon it does as you can notice all the crap on the bottom, it's definitely easier to clean but more noticeable compared to substrate. A great really nice looking and fairly easy to breed fish that can also make you money would be rainbowfish or blue eyes (Pseudomugil). All you need is a spawning mop and they are easy to breed and raise and can be sold from $20-$60 a fish. Very amazing fish and this is just a suggestion. The room is looking awesome mate - really schmick! Just wondering if you have had any issues with the MDF swelling when it gets wet during water changes etc? You may have said before but do you give them a coat of paint before putting tanks on it? Re the substate all our existing tanks we do a mix with 2-3 sizes of gravel and coarse sand capping a base aquasoil layer as they are planted tanks so need something a bit more substantial. The latest tank we have left bare base, but Im not loving seeing the foam layer under it, so may try the sandpit sand from Bunnings and see how that goes - will let you know.

    • @Fin2FinAquariums
      @Fin2FinAquariums 18 днів тому

      @MJAquariums thanks mate, timber on the old tanks was surprisingly good with the amount of water I spilt on them, these new ones are fully covered and any spillage now goes on ground at front but these new set ups are easier and I don't spill to much anymore as I have more room to work. I am going to run a line around and have a outlet on every tank to fill them as it's the most tedious part of the water changes and seems to take forever. I would love to do a substrate like what your doing but worried how much weight that might add to each shelf and font want to push my luck with them to much.

    Hey man thats a beast set up. Im in the states and had 60 tanks breeding guppies. they definitely didnt sell as good locally, people wanted to low ball home breeders. Fish stores get them for pennies imported so i downgraded tanks and switch to shrimp which is just as much fun and your able to yield so much more. growth time is faster compared to fish. My problem was growing out all my fish enough so i can make it to fish meet but i never have enough stock ready at the same time. People would come over but then i wasted countless hours on people just looking around and not buying anything. Selling online is definitely going to help. When i was selling guppies I also didnt want to get rid of all my numbers so it took a long time until i could get over selling the ones i really wanted to keep over just my culls.

    Fare, as I have seen over UA-cam, most people are using ibc as grow outs. An have everything on float values for water top ups. The more water to fish and feed as much as you can and the big water changes. Also, with your system, I be looking at adding water change system help. Just troll UA-cam as much as you can look into everything there so many ideas out there man

      @khyheslop9433 yeah I think once the room is complete I'll most likely look into how I could set up auto water changes, yeah looking into some IBCs now, think they will definitely solve the grow out problems

    G'day Mick, another cracking video! Great to see the room has turned a profit - even if it’s modest, it’s all heading in the right direction with everything you’ve got growing in the tubs and tanks. 🐠 It’s inspiring to see how much effort you’ve put in and the variety you’ve got going. We’ve been following along with interest because we’re looking at starting something similar (on a much smaller scale) in our spare room. We’ve got a bunch of planted tanks scattered around the house with discus, clown loaches, rams, swordtails, corys, tetras and guppies etc. Lately, we’ve been swapping some of our guppy offspring at the local shop for fish food and plants (no cash yet), but with the guppies breeding like… well, guppies... we figured it’s time to give it a bit of a go! Planning to start small with guppies, cories and shrimp while we slowly gather the gear - tanks, shelves, pumps etc.. We’re just south of Adelaide, so if you’re keen on a closer-to-home test run for deliveries, give us a shout! We’d be happy to help out and throw in some cash as well. Thanks again for sharing the journey - your setup is both a goal and an inspiration. Looking forward to the next update. Keep up the awesome work! 🎉

      @MJAquariums thanks mate, yeah would be great to send to Adelaide first for a bit of a test run while I find my feet. Being in Adelaide you should do well with the Fish ships and private sales for sure, if your ever up this way for any reason let me know and pop in for a coffee.

      @@Fin2FinAquariums Thanks, Mick! Really appreciate the invite and the encouragement. We’d definitely be keen to help out with a test run when you’re ready - sounds like a great way to sort out the logistics before scaling up. And we’ll absolutely take you up on that coffee if we’re ever up your way - would be awesome to see the fish room in person and have a yarn. Same goes if you’re ever down Adelaide way - happy to show you our current tanks and the new little setup once it’s up and running.

    So, what will be your solution to overpopulation? What options are there other than selling some?

    • @Fin2FinAquariums
      @Fin2FinAquariums 29 днів тому

      @dankslug what I'm doing now is separating adults to slow some down, the egg layers I have just stopped collecting eggs so they are easy the livebearers tend to keep breeding but I'll also lower the feeding a bit to help slow them a bit also. If I bring them inside they slow down also as a lot of fry gets eaten by the adults, out in the ponds they have so much weed to hide they have a high survival rate.

      @7602sm I don't have a shed sadly at this house, wish I did although that would make me just keep more lol. I am going to clean out the garage eventually and utilise some of that for larger tubs for summer to assist with grow outs

  • @mattkinsella9856
    @mattkinsella9856 Місяць тому

    I always struggle at the end of the summer with young fish and fry coming out of my ears and sometimes don't know what to do with them all. I have to keep it to 4 tubs/ponds. I have started to get very selective and I have to hold myself back at the start of the summer.

      @Fin2FinAquariums It becomes a game of favourites. Narrowing it down to the favourites of the favourite strain of the favourites type and then being very very strict with yourself. To be honest I've managed to refine my own strain of guppy this way and planning to send some to international guppy shows next year. So that's become the interest, rather than going for numbers. It's very difficult to do though, something else always catches my attention. I would love to expand to dwarf Gourami for example but I have to work on a "1 in, 1 out" policy.
